Mario might be 14. So Luigi > Mario > Mother kids and Brave would be the example heights. 15 > 14 > 13
I would think luigi is at least 2 points higher than mario. he's pretty tall.

but anyway the marth and lucina comparison can make sense.
This would be so much easier if we had a list of all of them :p

Regardless, Joker's model appears to be taller than that maybe being around Marth/Lucina height, which is something like 17.
If Joker was 15 and he now looks to be the size of a normal human character like Marth (because there's no way he's Luigi's height), this pretty much gives us a general area of error for where Brave can actually fall under by about two points. From the looks of it, if Brave's height can increase by two points, then Erdrick can definitely fit that better than people originally anticipated.

The height argument was always flimsy, but now we have evidence against it.

Weirdly enough, I just found out the training stage is a perfect way to determine the height statistic. If the two characters are next to each other, the height stat should equal the number of background squares from their feet to the top of their skull.

Luigi is roughly 15 squares, Mario is about 14, and Marth is roughly 17.

I wouldn't put too much thought on to the Height value honestly, considering the scale value seems to be what directly affects the sizes. The Height value could be either used to classify the characters or for another gameplay reason like maximum reach before getting knocked out or something, it can change drastically if it depends on another value.

Edit, last sentence sounded weird after rereading

Based on everything I could see, it seems more like it's used for reference only rather than anything that is directly used by the game. This means that as they tinker with the character, the height value is highly subject to change. Both Joker's and Brave's were likely hold overs from whoever the base character used to make them was.

I hope things are finally settled on that front. Not even so much because it'd affect the likelihood that Brave is Erdrick, but so I never have to read the words "Kid Erdrick" again.

I cant decide if that or DQ11's hero being called Luminary like it's his actual name is more passively maddening

Isn't "Luminary" the title DQ11's hero is known as? I don't see anything wrong with calling him that.

I mean, Erdrick is a title as well.

Edit: Oh, perhaps you meant people calling him "Luminary" instead of "the Luminary"? My mistake.

Copied the name of the cup and apparently its being held in different dates, with the last one being on the 31st of March
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/smbcup2019/
Thanks.
Have a little bit of a feeling that maybe Erdrick could be revealed there. It's much more big of a character in Japan, so it make a bit of sense the stage been there with a worldwide transmission of the announcement by YouTube. The excitement of the crowd would be a good hype boost.
Just a thought I had.

Not to lose peoples hopes here but ever since no reveal at that Direct. I feel there's quite a strong possibility that this whole DQ character in Smash may had been confused for Dai in Jump Force.

I mean I still think its possible to see Erdrick but something to consider never the less.

That's extremely unlikely. Tansut said that they would have male/female alts, which doesnt apply to Dai. And Vergeben even straight up said that that wasn't the case.

Also, they are totally different characters. And with no connection besides Square Enix in a information line.
The Hitage misinformation about Katalina could have been the motivation to you(Michael) think that, but it's a totally different occasion and it was fixed relatively quickly. It's different from "Katalina from GrandBlue Fantasy will be in a fighting game." and "Erdrick, Luminary, Sephiroth and Crono are the names that I hear the most lately in the Smash team" "Definitively hear about Erdrick the most(within the Smash team.)" "Erdrick is likely to have a male/female Alt."

Erdrick in Smash would be great for DQ and for Smash.

Anyway, as far as the character goes, I have been thinking. Would it better to stick to Dragon Quest III or add some things that only heroes from later games can use (namely, abilities.) ?

I think that if they got someone else in the future, it be Eight as DQVIII polished a lot of mechanics and is one of the most populars both in Japan and WW.
Also noticed how it could be a way to draw more attention to Smash in Japan as the game there isn't as popular as worldwide.

Erdrick is the protagonist of what is possibly one of the most influential games of all time: Dragon Quest III.

Never heard of it? That's not too surprising. The game largely flew under the radar in the States, as it was released towards the end of the Nintendo Entertainment System's lifespan. Not only that, it was a time in which nobody really knew what a JRPG was, much less cared about it. The genre didn't really become popular in the States until FInal Fantasy VII was released, so most Westerners have never played Dragon Quest III. Japan? That's a different story.

Dragon Quest is by far the most popular JRPG series there. Just like how in the United States, many people when asked to name a JRPG can only name Final Fantasy, many people in Japan can only name Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest III was responsible for making RPGs popular in Japan and is the game which made Dragon Quest famous. The only reason it seems cliched now is because it was so influential-it was remarkable for its time.

Who is Erdrick?
Erdrick is the hero of Dragon Quest III. Admittedly, that's a spoiler. It's not actually clear until halfway through the game. In the first two games, the protagonist is the descendant of the legendary hero Erdrick. The first half of Dragon Quest III took place in an entirely different world, so it seemed to be unrelated. So when the protagonist is sent to the old one and we discover that he's the legendary hero we had heard of but never got to play, it comes as a bit of a shock. Technically, Erdrick is not even his real name. It's a title, bestowed upon him by the king. His "real" name is supposed to be the player's. Erdrick's personality and background is not extremely detailed; he's the chosen one, groomed by birth to stop the villain Baramos... and that's more or less all we get. Still, it was a simpler time. In the remakes, Erdrick can also be female.

What would Erdrick offer to Smash?
There aren't many candidates for Dragon Quest characters in Super Smash Bros. The Slime is the most obvious one, but the Slime does very little besides attack and fuse with other slimes in most of the games it's in. It arguably fits better as an Assist Trophy. Erdrick is the protagonist of potentially the most popular Dragon Quest game in Japan, and as a character he's much easier to implement. Like Robin he uses both swords and magic, but he'd function very differently. He does not use any sort of tome in order to fight and his weapons do not break. Not only that, he would use Dragon Quest spells, not Fire Emblem spells. Erdrick would also fill a unique niche in Super Smash Bros. roster as a fighter who uses a sword and shield. Link also possesses a sword and shield, but he doesn't really use the shield as a weapon, whereas Erdrick could potentially incorporate the shield into his moveset. Not only that, Link uses a variety of weapons instead of magic.

Edit:

Honestly, I am not well versed in the ways of the Dragon Quest. But I do believe that Erdrick would be a nice change in the aesthetic and style of the current smash roster. C'mon Sakurai. let's spice it up!

I see it being a Ryu situation where they'll probably take primarily from DQ 3 but take one or two traits from modern games, like how Ryu has the SF4 focus attacks. Best of both worlds.

Hope that for the Sword Skills for his Smashs and High Tension as his personal mechanic. Like the other weapons ideas, but think they go better as his air attacks.

I tried imagining something new Erdrick could bring to Smash Bros. A completely unique gameplay mechanic outside of a normal fighter. That got me thinking about how DQ is pretty much the quintessential turn-based RPG. What if Sakurai took advantage of that? My current idea is to have his down special pull up a menu above your stock icons and you can select a bunch of different magic spells, buffs, items, or weapon skills. (You can't move while selecting your actions.) That way, he would have a ton of special moves available to use, but at a cost of stopping you in place. I would also think an MP system could help balance this out as well so you can't overwhelm your opponent with too many options at once.

I definitely think his FS should be the Super High Tension Gigaslash from 8.

Yes, this is what i’ve been preaching.
People don’t seem to like the idea, but once you master it, like in any turn based rpg, your muscle memory will take over once you’re used to it.

“Kafrizz? Down+B, Down, Right, A” BAM!

A menu and maybe an an MP system are the two gimmicks that any DQ character should bring to the table.

As for other characters:

Eight (recognizability)
Luminary (new game)
Descendant/Alef (first protagonist)

Although if Erdrick comes with female alt. Luminary comes with Andalucía alt. Then I cross my fingers for Solo with Sofia alt.

For a Final Smash, I would prefer something related to kazap and the sword of kings over tension. Someone on GameFAQs mentioned bringing the enemies into a NES DQ combat screen, that could be cool over simple cinematic. Since Sakurai played DQ3, I wonder if he will be interested in referencing certain things. The Water Blaster would make for a silly taunt, or maybe that "never idle, always walking" thing that characters do in early DQ. So far new third-party reps of the NES era have had one quirk or two emulating their old animations, so I think if Erdrick is in that quirk will absolutely show up somehow.

I would also think an MP system could help balance this out as well so you can't overwhelm your opponent with too many options at once.
I had similar thoughts, in fact, since much of DQ3 is all about MP management, I thought up something involving a limited amount of MP per stock that can be used to enhance attacks but cannot be replenished.

Sofia alt.
Oh yes, please. The leak (not that I believe it) said Erdrick would be kinda close to Bowser Jr. (Not in these words, but mentioned Female alt, DQ10 alts, Luminary) Sofia totally has to be one of the female alts, if not at least a color scheme for Erdrick (F)

I'd say Erdrick's got dibs on anything the later protagonists added to the hero moveset; the DQ games have never been shy about retrofitting abilities onto older characters like that. Erdrick's probably the character most closely associated with Gigaslash, and that move didn't even exist until several games after III.

...with that in mind, I don't think it'd be unreasonable to smudge the lines a little and give him Quadraslash as a final smash. It's kind of the Luminary's signature move, but since it originated with Erdwin I'd say Erdrick has a fair claim to it. Plus it'd be way cooler in DQXI if Grand Master Pang's super secret ultimate technique passed down from Erdwin was that move from Smash, and not just some new attack.

Erdrick used High Tension Gigaslash on Heroes, so it's probably they mix up the games features in Smash-Erdrick. If the Luminary was the main body Quadraslash or Solar Flair has more chance.
But still wanting more High Tension be the mechanic then Pep Power.

Just wondering, how does pep power change from tension? I havent played dq11 and i'm curious.

Pep improves the stats of the character that uses it (monsters can use it as well, but cant recall if monsters can enter tension) and allows combined special attacks (like double or triple techs from Chrono Trigger) for the users.

Alright. sounds a bit more diversified from just attack power. Does it go down after an attack is used?
Anyway, im sure either or both could be cool somehow in smash :p

Some monsters can go High Tension(at least in IX). But one of the biggest difference is that Pep's can be hold for longer turns and only goes of by limit turns hited or by unleashing the special attack. But High Tension can be build up multiple times, powering the stats each time and can be achieved more easily.
Oh, also has the Super Tension(100 Tension) that got a really nice visual change with a enormous power boost.

While I can’t unsee the spoiler (don’t worry) that’s a much better example than the one I had. I was going to refer to the cast of DQ Rivals, who can all use tension, most of them preceeding DQ8.

Yeah, the main plus of Super High Tension is that it makes a character go Super Saiyan, which I think is something they're going to want to capitalize on.

Well, it would be a smart move. Maybe it'd be a bit like Incineroar's revenge, but without needing to be hit. Obviously it'd have to be balanced, but i think it could easily be pretty cool

Probably would be build up over the time or with Down B. But released immediately after any attack. Super Tension have a chance to fail, so it's a way to balance it. It's a dynamic battle after all, so every second counts.

Sorry for that, I forgot that skills appeared in other DQ games. I thought that for people that didn't got many skills on DQXI it would been just some word throw.

I always thought that it looks like straight up Kaioken and Super High Tension is like the Super Kaioken(Super Saiyan+Kaioken).
This really would be a fuel for memes and comics xD

Found this on Twitter. I love it!
I don’t get why Luninary gets the hate he does, even in Japanese forums, but I think he’s cool. Personally really excited for DQXIs. Haven’t played xi yet But the cast already grew on me before even knowing them.
That's super cool artwork. Though I havent seen much actual hate towards him, unless poking fun at his hair counts lol
