If there was a trailer for Erdrick, would it have to be a 8-bit one?
Could be a one minute CG like for the Inkling/Smash 5 reveal. I'm fairly certain literally blowing the familiar trumpets for Erdrick's reveal would be the most practical way to go about it.

Good luck, guys! These past few months have taught me a lot about Dragon Quest through the Square thread and whether he's in today, or announced later, I hope for all your sakes he makes it. I'll be crossing my fingers for you guys.

What a weird announcement. Guess that means there's no remake in the cards anytime soon.

I would cry if one of Erdrick’s alts was Eight.
That’s what I’m hoping for.

Hey fellas, I hope y’all are hype as ****! Dragon Quest x Smash is totally happening. I’m not entirely confident that we’re getting an Erdrick reveal this direct. I’m more expecting a Joker gameplay trailer/release date and nothing more. But I still wanted to say that I’m rooting for you guys. Dragon Quest is like, the most deserving of a Smash crossover. The fact that this seems to actually be happening gets me so hype! Good luck! Hopefully today’s the day!

You think that he will be showed in a DQ segment showing DQXIS or will be showed in the end like Isabelle?

To shake off the jitters, I finished off an old half-done Rocket Slime save file last night. That game's still pretty fun.

Good luck, ya buncha slime-lovin' schmucks! Yow!

So verge only said yes he backs erdrick. but from his main sources. so that's pretty cool.
It's possible a reveal wont be in this direct. But of course, really hoping it is :)

It's possible we wont, but if they want to reveal a newcomer before E3, now is the only time to do so unless they got a Smash direct.

What makes you say that? There's been directs in all sorts of months, so I dont see why there couldn't be some in april or may. I dont think they always save everything for e3. Unless im missing something.
I'd rather one be today tho :)

Historically in recent years, newcomers for Ultimate have only been revealed in Nintendo or Smash directs. Looking up a wikipedia article for direct dates, there's only one Nintendo direct before E3 usually.

Well there's Shulk, Joker, and I forget who else. they were announced places other than directs.

Also, i just looked quick and in 2017 there were directs in may and april. And looks like there some all around.
Anyway, hopefully youre right enough that we get one now. that's all I can hope for :p

That's why I specified Ultimate newcomers. What newcomer other than Joker was revealed outside of a Nintendo or Smash direct? Joker had the excuse of not only being the day before Ultimate, but also on a world stage video game event.

One direct you pulled up from 2017 is not what I'm talking about.

When I say Nintendo Direct, I meant the ones that cover multiple games quickly. Something along the lines of the April 2017 direct.
However, the May 2017 direct focused only on Arms with a small (around 2 minute) segment of Splatoon 2. The wikipedia article's timetable makes sure to separate these two types of directs with white and yellow colors. In recent years from 2015 to now, the only big worldwide directs that cover multiple Nintendo games at once and were not E3 are:

Jan 14, 2015 - Revealing the New 3DS
April 1, 2015 - Standard Affairs
November 12, 2015 - Standard Autumn Affairs
March 3, 2016 - Not sure why there's no direct in the latter half of the year
April 12, 2017 - Standard Spring Affairs
September 13, 2017 - Standard Autumn Affairs
March 8, 2018 - Standard Spring Affairs
September 13, 2018 - Standard Autumn Affairs
February 13, 2019 - Most Definitely Standard Spring Affairs (even though it's technically winter)

Yeah. They space these things out for a couple of months. In 2015's case, they wanted to reveal a new system, which would on it's own require a direct. If you wanna expect they'll do something late April with the information I provided, go nuts. From where I'm standing, any grand info that would be available in April or May would be better saved for E3. It seems they've found their groove for now and it's logical to trust in it.

Alright, well thanks for the research.
If they do keep the 'groove', then you might be right. it's always possible that it wont follow those patterns, like for shulk and all that, but hopefully they think this is a good and big one enough to reveal a character.

an hour and a half left :)

Not a DQ fan, never played a game in the series, but I just wanted to stop by and wish you all today. Erdrick has been a character speculated so much and I'd be really happy to see your guys' character get in. :)

Well since the direct is an hour and a half away what do you guys expect to see in general?

Personally I am hoping for Erdrick, but I would be fine with the hero of the first game or someone from eleven too.

I also expect to see stuff related to Dragon Quest (either something related to eleven or Builders 2.), the Final Fantasy remakes, and the new SaGa game in the direct. Not related to Smash of course but in general.

Bound to be some Square Enix stuff for sure.

I would've liked to have fans added to the support list before today's direct, but unfortunately the thread creator has been inactive all this month.
We'll just ignore the support list for now I guess :p If you like Dragon Quest, then just know yourself as a supporter anyway :)

Worth noting that Square-Enix and Dragon Quest producer Yosuke Saito has acknowledged the Nintendo Direct on Twitter while fellow Dragon Quest producer Hokuto Okamoto retweeted Saito's tweet. We are almost definitely getting something Dragon Quest related in the direct. Both of them produced DQXI.

I left class early and I'm watching the direct on my phone. I can't watch it and see what Smashboards is posting live at the same time, so I just wanna say I hope Erdrick is in! And if it isn't them, then maybe someone lots of people are hoping for like Geno or Sora!

Gonna lay low during and after the direct. See you people later! Enjoy the direct and the fireworks that may follow afterwards!

Well, it wasn't not Erdrick.

Two DQ games, a remake of Best Zelda and a toku hero game from Platinum isn't a bad day, frankly. I'll take it happily.

If we get him, I don't think he'll be revealed until closer to D Q11's release.

Speaking of which, looks like it's gonna be amazing.

Well no news is good news I guess.

The fact that they went out of their way to talk a lot about DQ separately from the other lineups really says something though.

He said there'd be more in the future. not sure what that means, but at least DQ is in the minds of people now.
