That's because the technology back then was crap. Imagine if they were to remake ROB with today's technology?
Hmm I'm still not to sure that there could be a practical application for ROB, to me it exists solely for it's novelty factor. Maybe if they could develop a mobile version with some sort of ring it stood in that sensed where it moved, they could do something interesting...?

Ok, have you seen some of the games that get sequels? Look at Viva Pinãta: I know! lets make a game where all you do is raise Pinãta's so they can be killed! Oh, but make sure they dont get Killed!
Most, ********, logic, EVER! Compare R.O.B. to games like that, and he would be #1 on the list for a revival, besides, Nintendo's been pumping out good games recently! I'll trust em with R.O.B.!
If anything though, I think R.O.B. could be a Virtual Console star, and have his own games! How does that Idea sound?

R.O.B. definitely deserves his own game. Without R.O.B., there would be no Nintendo or video game industry outside of Japan.

Does anyone actually have a ROB? I have one, and I have to say it is one of the most useless peripherals that has ever existed. The thought process behind the product is really one I can't even begin to comprehend: Hey I have an idea, let's make an expensive robot that you plug into your Nintendo that you still control with a regular remote, making the gameplay slower and more obnoxious. But wait, let's make it so it compatible with only 2 games, which just happen to be terrible! People will love it right?
R.O.B. was bulky, cheap, sucky, and pointless, for sure, but without it, the NES would not have sold in the US. Remember, this was right after Atari caused the huge market crash, and retailers didn't want to sell video games anymore. Nintendo had to make the NES look like a robot-controlled computer to make it into stores.

The difference between ROB and GW is that ROB is more unique in terms of his origin. GW is just a crappy handheld series that came out back in the early 80's.
I can see this being a debate that will last forever. ROB is a severely looked down upon accessory, you payed a crap load to play 2-Player games with a toy. G&W's paved the way for handheld gaming are were very popular.

Think about what ROB was for, playing 2-Player games with (basically) an AI. Unless you're talking about co-op games, you can play multiplayer games against the computer anyway. There is NO need for ROB to be revived.

What made ROB appeal was that he was something that gamers had never seen before. Nintendo used ROB as sort of a Trojan Horse to get American retailers to gravitate towards stocking the NES. Yes, his original games were crap (just like Kid Icarus) but just imagine a new ROB game with today's technology?

Or Smash Bros sequels.

IMO, R.O.B. may have finally found a home in the Smash series, like it is for Mr. Game & Watch. A place where he can frolic at his leisure and be immortalized in the virtual historical archive that is the trophy gallery. Granted, people had been hostile towards him, but he was slowly accepted in the Smash community, due to his robust moveset and recovery skills.

Even if R.O.B. only makes cameos in other games, he is here to stay in the Smash franchise.
If they decide to make a 4th smash bros then I hope ROB stays on board.

I think ressurecting ROB is a good idea. Maybe you could put the Wii Remote in his head, and that's how he recieves the images. *shrugs* I'd probably buy it. Especially if they could make a good game where you could use him to play the game as an assistant, or you could compete against him. Kind of like computer chess in concept.

Next on the ressurection list is Little Mac from Punch Out.

So you would like to battle a lifeless plastic toy, containing no emotion at all, that probably plays to the point of near perfection?
You are insane.

Playing against a computer is no fun.
It knows more than you, no denying.
You could be the CREATOR of the game, and it can STILL outplay you.
Why?
It IS the game.

It's like the Matrix, except there's no way out, and if you don't get up to the computer's level of play, you lose (or die).

Sounds like fun.
I SERIOUSLY HOPE YOU DIDN'T BELIEVE THAT LAST STATEMENT.

Nintendo wouldn't have you play against it. In ROB's original games he was an assistant to you.

That wasn't even a substantial contribution to the thread...or a contribution to the thread at all, come to think of it. You just commented on how you're excited for Punch Out!'s sequel...
There was no need to necro the thread for that.

In any case, I don't think ROB should get another game. But I do think he should make cameo appearances.
I just want to know why I can't get a ROB in Animal Crossing. That would be AWESOME.
