The future of Melee (who's going to take over?)

(This is only considering if most of what people have said is true, but likely not).

If Mango actually goes through with taking Smash less seriously (with traveling and the like), and M2K focusing more on Brawl and possibly retiring from Melee, who do you think will be filling the top spot?

Since both Amsah and some of the Falcons aren't attending APEX, Armada should get through just fine (a few people might pose as threats), and with Hungrybox tearing apart almost anyone, chances are the two are going to meet. Honestly, I think we'll be seeing the next start of the next rivalry, and I'm hyped to see it. =D

Not only that, but also a lot of interest ahead even character-wise. If M2K and Strawhat both actually go through with retiring, who will become the best Marth? HBK? Falcomist? Diakonos? Also, there has been a ton of middle and low tier domination; will they start becoming more tournament viable? And what other characters might pop up with unexpected wins?

And once more people start appearing in North American tournaments, will the community find other amazing players? Armada has become a regular at international tournaments now and hopefully others are able to follow in his steps. =D We've seen a lot of Europeans surprise everyone, and hopefully more hidden gems show up. =)

So who do you think will start dominating, become the next top players, and surprise everyone, as well as what characters will start emerging?

Do people not realize that Marth is Falcomist's secondary? HBK is by far the best Marth after M2K...

Anyway, puff bair is the future. Hbox will dominate for sure. I don't think Jiggs has even peaked yet...

I also think, as far as unexpected characters rising up, Doctor Mario will start placing more respectably.

Really anyone who isn't stoped will only keep getting better, take ice climbers if they were never stopped they would **** the f*** out of everyone. If puff staays on top it is only going to get harder I would like it if there were a lot of puffs and marths on top because they are my favorite match-up and people would say pichu is a puff counter because of how much i love the MU.

my predictions. if puff isn't slowed down or anything she will go higher.

pikachu/pichu will go upwards axe and me work on ideas and junk.

marth will fall far but I wouldn't be surprised if there would be an expolsion of just good or great marths not M2k level or anything.

falco will rise because I think he is somewhat untapped.

fox will still be top but overall lower level of play.

falcon teh sexiness that won't ever end.

I wouldn't be surprised if peach's and gannons step it up. WTF puff counters

Really I think overall people will spread out more less marths and stuff.

If mango totally quit it would be neat what happens no clear winners or someone would break their way to the top. It could cause a rise or drop in top players skill.

I think that if everyone was a true Smash fan, they should boycott brawl so that MLG couldn't run it anymore and would have to go back to melee, which is far superior competitively.
That way MewtwoKing wouldnt have to play brawl and Mango would have more reason to play
(like pay for college)

no offense but hbk's marth would be a sad "best marth"

and if hbox was the best in the us i would never watch grand finals.

a generation that needs more Mario will see possibly more lows, I'm thinking in the Weegee-Ganon area.

Something tells me we need to introduce something new to the tournament atmosphere to keep melee alive. Maybe an invisible tournament or Coin tournament? (I am not 100% serious but I do kind of like the idea.)

no one will have the drive to over throw mango anymore if he retires.
i think thats a big factor in the community and it will greatly hurt it...

Or a maybe a more liberal stage list. Some tournaments are even banning Brinstar and Rainbow Cruise now. We'll be left with 7 stages for singles at this rate. Stage diversity really adds another dimension to the game.

With Mango leaving, Hbox would literally **** on everyone else.

Just saying.

EDIT: Jigglypuff players will be everywhere once they figure out that planking with her will be utter hell.

People should have lower tier tournaments. Like donkey kong, the mario bros, etc. Maybe their gameplay can evolve a bit more.

Are there any new unofficial tier lists? The last one was 2 years ago.

I think it would also help melee to have like unofficial groups that don't cost a lot to get to. I'm in the bay area, and I don't play at a very high level but I'd love to meet some smashers to have fun and improve my game.

Like somebody did mention, I agree about stage flexibility. Maybe in slightly less formal games, allow more stages that are usually banned?

really, if its outside of tournament, you can do whatever you want.

but you might as well get used to the usual stages if you want to improve your game
Yeah, I'm just saying people should try out more stages in more casual gameplay for variety, maybe it will help spur melee's scene some more.
