Finally the day is upon us, with Smash 5/Ultimate revealed and the Yoshi sub-forum created I can make this thread.

Just like for Smash 4 or even for older folks in the Yoshi community, Skype groups in the Brawl days.
Here's yet another discord made by me. This will hopefully be the go to Yoshi Discord to foster the best Yoshi mains, give the best advice, and create good videos/documents like the previous Discord.

Basic rules for now is stuff like no Porn posting, flaming or heated arguments is fine just not when any of the staff needs to step in to chill anyone out. Long as it's constructive discussion it's pretty much always fine.
Once more time has passed everything will be set in stone of course, for now it's gonna be a server for chitchat and migrating Smash 4 members of my discord into the Smash Ultimate one since the game obviously isn't out yet and Yoshi unfortunately is not in this E3 build.

Yoshi kinda got fugged this game reveal. Didn't even show his final smash compared to everyone else. That aside, suggestions for the server is welcome as well.

I surprise that there isn't a separate thread on this but I wonder what his final smash is going to be like. We know they're are going to change is some how so that its more automated like they've done with every other transformation final smashes. Will they keep the dragon form? Will they give him something new?

I thought about doing that, but I already created the majority of threads in this sub-forum so I decided against it.

I'm not too sure. The Final Smash could still be Super Dragon, but it would be modified to follow the mechanic changes that all the other Final Smashes are receiving.

I feel like if they have to change Yoshi's Final Smash to fit the new mechanics, they might as well go for the canonical move that makes the most sense

Not new or anything but maybe discussion, iunno.
Shields stale moves now, not important against Yoshi really but just keep in mind if ya wanna get a kill move off the stale counter so just lob eggs.
Shorthop Aerials do 0.85% but in 1v1 it's basically the same damage output by 1.2% instead from the new mechanics sakurai added in with 1v1 damage being higher.

I want more music, ATs and maybe a non-first-level stage from the Yoshi series. I feel like it gets more shafted than the DK series (which I hear complaints about 24/7)

Might I add that I find the tax fraud meme has run its course...

I swear every time Yoshi gets shafted in some form (his games getting delayed, not getting shown in the Smash E3 build, his tier placement, getting cut from the ****ing box art, etc.) and he should get sympathy from it, there's always those clowns who are about as funny as Deadpool cosplayers who shout those "lol shouldn't have committed tax fraud" lines and I'm like: " **** off!!! I don't need this ****"

Like all memes since 2014 or whenever squidward dabbing started the trend these days of memes lasting a month or a few days/weeks (anyone remember those ****ty "meme of the month" image with squidward arthur fist etc.?), SiIvagunner was a fun stint when it started becoming popular to mess with vidya game music and making it meme music 2 years ago.

It's overstayed its welcome since the middle of 2017 or earlier, now the remaining dregs of the fans are just grasping at straws trying anything to make a new meme, Yoshi tax fraud is meh. It exists and I never even knew it was the latest siIva meme until everyone started posting it weeks after it was already a thing. Also reading YT comments is a good way to make your brain cells commit suicide.

That's because he was treated as if he WAS a newcomer. "You see what we did to Yoshi? It's as if he's a brand new character!!!" But why do they focus on the Egg Roll so much?

I have to admit I'm one of those weirdos who kinda likes Egg Roll, but yeah they do focus on it a little too much maybe. It can definitely be made into a more viable move though, like reducing the endlag to potentially follow up with another move provided the move hits, make it less punishable on shield.. maybe being able to activate it straight out of shield, as in, Yoshi shields, but can immediately start rolling around with side-B without ever dropping the shield. This could potentially make it tie in with the shield damage; if Yoshi's shield has been damaged a lot already, the move becomes weaker and/or more punishable.

Hey now, calm down! It sucks but there's no point in getting so worked up over it. I hate it as much as you do but at least Yoshi IS in Smash, and he's pretty well and faithfully presented! There's characters who have it much worse than Yoshi on that front, like Ganondorf who's been Falcondorf for the longest time, and Waluigi who managed to just be an Assist Trophy so far despite the massive outcry for him to be playable. And there's plenty of characters who haven't even gotten AT status yet. If you think about that, we're actually pretty lucky with Yoshi's playable role in Smash Bros, don't you think? It'd be great if he wouldn't get sidelines so much but once in a while it's better to think about the things that you DO have rather than what you DON'T have. Positive thoughts, my friend! The Way of the Yoshi!

Not being able to pick apart all the data 6 months out is pretty good for the initial hype of the game releasing, in my opinion.

Also, Waluigi in Smash is a meme. Dude has 0 roles and should really just be thankful he got in as an AT.

Ridley Shulk and cloud are the meme picks in Smash people got in. Waluigi in smash would be funny as a joke character like say Croagunk in pokken or claptrap in borderlands pre-sequel.
Just a moveset filled with mostly RNG weapons n **** from all the various party and sports games Waluigi has been in.

This is exactly how I feel about it as well. It would be great to see more Yoshi stuff and be able to pick it all apart in a big analysis. But going into the game's official release, really, I don't think I would even mind if they didn't even reveal Yoshi's Final Smash until then so we can all experience it first-hand ourselves upon release.

Bit more range on his grabs wouldn't go amiss either since canonically that tongue should be thrice the size it currently is.

One can only hope, regardless of time the direct will last (5 mins 10 mins 20 mins or 45 has been most of their direct vids I believe) they have to show Yoshi and a new character.
If Yoshi still isn't shown (with of course the other half of the roster that's still being developed) then whatever they're doing to fix him up better make him viable for once lol

Real talk though, another reason Yoshi isn't talked about much isn't just because he isn't high tier, but also because he isn't low enough to be infamous or a troll pick. He has one of the most middling tier list averages I have ever seen.

I'm sure Yoshi will be seen at least taking part in combat here and there, which will at least give us a little bit to analyze and pick apart, assuming they don't use the same footage of him that we've already seen before. Whether they'll focus on Yoshi though.. to be honest I kinda doubt it, but it'd be a nice surprise.

I'm kinda keeping up hope that they'll reveal more detail about how alternate costumes are handled this time though and that they'll show off either Yarn Yoshi, if not just orange and white (and maybe even brown) alternate colors which were the only regular Yoshi colors still missing from Smash. That should simultaneously give us at least a little bit of footage to go over as well, even if it's just getting a bit of an extended look at his idle animation or something like that for that part. I mean.... it'd be something.

Most of his enemies is generic mario ones like shy guys or less popular like the monkeys, but outside of that only kamek and bowser jr. are other characters that're enemies but Jr. is of course a fighter already and Kamek I guess could be an assist trophy to provide growth but I mean >super mushroom.

So yeah, I'm sad and mad too that yoshi and the other half of the roster is being kept hidden still tho guess it's cause the directs until the game's release/final character reveal is just gonna be showing the new fighters.

Oh I have some ideas on Assist Trophies other than Poochy...

Grinders: They can do one of 3 things. 1) Snatching items away from opponents (maybe even projectiles a la Villager) 2) Pelting opponents with watermelon seeds 3) Jumping around dropping bombs below

Pak E. Derm: Similar to Alolan Eggsecutor, he could block the stage (regardless of the height) until he goes away or you beat him to death.

Eggo-dil: Launches slow moving petal projectiles all across the stage

Prince Froggy: Eats the opponent and hops to the edge of the stage

Fuzzy: Floats around and disorients the fighter it touches

You can't tell me you don't think Poochy wouldn't be a fun and ideal Assist Trophy candidate. And even outside of Poochy, it's not like they haven't used common enemies as Assist Trophies before, and Shy Guys are probably the biggest iconic enemy for the Yoshi series so they could represent Yoshi on that front if Poochy doesn't do so.

Poochy's role has almost always been just getting us past spikes and being invincible.

So some things I noticed from the scant Yoshi footage I was able to find in the Direct (he wasn't in any of the newcomer trailers).

-His Neutral B is slightly faster
-He has a new falling animation where he rolls instead of drops
-His initial jump MIGHT be higher, but I'm not certain

....and that's it. We knew of his Nair and I saw a little bit of his DJ but not enough to gleem any info.
