Oh, right. I guess I should have linked that PV here last night as well.
Anyway, that PV gives me the impression that it's a complete reboot, and not just a HF adaptation. But what it is exactly is still not confirmed, which is kind of annoying. I'm curious how they are planning to adapt it, and how they'll split the routes, since covering everything in one go will take a lot of episodes.
Also, with how epic that Emiya remix is, I can't wait to hear more of F/SN's soundtrack getting the Kajiura-treatment.

Yeah, Fate/Zero was really impressive in multiple aspects. Really curious as to how ufotable is going to approach this as they actually have a lot of material and whatnot to work with.

Biggest mistake I made there was deciding to rewatch F/SN after watching Fate/Zero; it was actually just terrible in comparison, from animation quality to character development, the whole thing D:

To be fair, F/Z > F/SN in character development regardless of the terrible Deen adaptation, haha.

The only card game I've been into is Yugioh and I dropped out of that about a year ago when I sold all my cards for like $600. There's some WS decks I wouldn't mind getting but that'd be because I like the characters or art.

If I'd get into a card game, it'd probably be Magic now. Maybe even Vanguard.

vanguard is degenerate, it's the epitome of 'children's card game taken seriously by adults'

magic is the better option

i only got into WS after reading little busters, and it was only for the art, luckily there was actually a community in my town

I woke up early with only (less than) 3 hours of sleep to catch the SAO Extra Edition special as it streamed as early as possible, but was disappointed for multiple reasons.
The first was that it was pretty much 80% recap. Could have saved people some time by not including that and just make it like 20 minutes long instead of 2 hours. It gave me time to check tweets and tweet during it, though, which might have been their intention all along (to get people talking about it as they watch it).
The second was that it aired after Japan's airing finished, which normally wouldn't be that bad, but there was a season 2 announcement at the end, which would have been more hype if one didn't know before finishing the special and found out at the end. But the stream on CrunchyRoll didn't include the teaser after the special, so I guess it doesn't really matter that people found out beforehand.
I'm still excited for S2, though, since Gun Gale Online's Phantom Bullet is, so far, my favorite arc of the series among the 4 arcs that I've read. Hopefully they do a good job adapting it.

I rather enjoyed the first arc of SAO as well... The characters were a bit bland, and I would've preferred the story to spend less time on "Kirito helps random passerby#15 without much progress to the main story", but it was still fun to watch. Well, and the ALO arc pretty much only has people acting like idiots. Not like-able idiots, but annoying morons.
Log Horizon on the other hand is exploring rather interesting aspects about its world, and the characters are fairly interesting (or at least quite a good source of comedy in some cases ;)).

That being said, I'm pretty sure I'll still give the second SAO season a shot (:

Can I say that I really hate SAO?

I've been watching it since Toonami started showing it, and it just keeps finding ways to get worse, which is actually kind of impressive. Now there's a villain whose evil plan is to marry the comatose main girl?

There's so many other light novel based anime I'd love to see get another season instead of SAO, oh well. :/

Log Horizon has been a big surprise on the other hand. I did not expect to like it as much as I am, even down to the amazingly silly opening. The world building is nice, and I think it does some interesting things with the "stuck in the MMO" story. I'm always finding myself looking forward to the next episode.

SAO gets a bad rap among people with any level of discerning taste whatsoever, for the single reason that everyone else ****ing loves the show blindly and makes it sound like the second coming of *insert your favourite anime here*.

So you pretty much made a generalizing statement saying that everyone with good taste will hate it, and only those with bad taste will like it. As if personal taste and opinions on something has become some sort of established fact that one person can simply decide.

LN is much better (besides that second arc which is still bad, imo). I wasn't a fan of the anime, so I feel really mixed on how received it is. I really enjoyed reading it, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't annoyed how people praise the adaptation.

Yep. Say what you want, it's a statement that has so far proven to be true in my experience. Quite literally all of the people I know in real life (and online) who absolutely love SAO (to the point where I call it blind devotion, with plenty of money and merchandise involved) also happen to have basically no standards, and call almost anything vaguely anime-like 'quality'. On the other hand, the anime elitists I've encountered have, without exception, blasted the show for taking a good concept and dumbing it down, giving it poor character development, etc. Most of the people inbetween (many who probably enjoyed it more than they say they did) latch onto the latter opinion, because the anime was honestly pretty meh, and because the former group are kinda weird about how they love it.

I personally don't dislike it. In fact, I enjoyed the first arc more than I'd care to admit, but I know that I'm not very discerning when it comes to things like this. From having only read up to GGO (and having been quite indifferent to that arc, for some reason), I honestly think it suffers from the same problem Index did, in that it's too hard to cram absolutely everything people want to see into a two-cour. I don't care to talk about it further, though I will almost definitely watch S2.

I really liked SAO when I watched it over the summer. Although, I can't really defend the show much. I liked it because it felt very nostalgic, not because the show was particularly good. It may also just be the soundtrack. To me, a good soundtrack can turn a steaming pile of crap into something very palatable.

I do find the love this show gets to be very strange, even though I think the first arc could have been far worse(something the second arc has done a damn good job of proving) it was still a mess all around, and there wasn't anything I liked from the story.

But It doesn't bother me that the series gets a lot of love, people can like whatever they want to like, I get far more annoyed when great things get ignored. :/

I wouldn't be too surprised if the LN was better, but I don't think this is a series that I will go out of my way to pay attention to. If Toonami gets the new season one day, I'll probably watch out of curiosity though.

Baccano! is the only LN I feel like reading right now, there's a lot of volumes and I'm going through them slowly.
And it's not like I can expect another season for it. :(

Wasn't the soundtrack made by the person who made .Hack//Sign's soundtrack?

It's possible. I actually only got halfway through one episode of .Hack//Sign before dropping it.

SAO was nostalgic to me because it reminded me of my Runescape days from middle school. I dropped .Hack//Sign because I thought it aged horribly. I'd never seen it when I was younger so I was going into it fresh like any other show and the animation just didn't do it for me.

edit: I'm also watching K-On right now and as much as I didn't want to, I'm liking it. Not LOVING it, but liking it.

Yes, Kajiura Yuki is quite an amazing composer, IMO. I've liked her music ever since I first heard of her from Tsubasa Chronicle (its music's one of the best things of that show, since its adaptation is pretty mediocre).

And regarding the statement that asianaussie made: it doesn't matter if the subject is something that I love or hate, whenever anyone makes such a blanket statement like that based on limited personal observations, it gets to me. Prejudice through stereotyping is a pet peeve I have.

Catching up on some anime news. Saw the Black Bullet PV finally http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqzHE-Y6538
Never heard of Kinema Citrus, and I can't say I'm fond of the character designs. No idea where to set my expectations on the adaptation, but hopefully it's decent.

Mahouka CM looks so much better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwkLgWoKQ5E
2 cours confirmed, and the OP is done by LiSA. This is going to blow up like SAO for sure and get popular.

I watched it with three other dudes so it was probably a lot more amusing than how some people saw it. I thought it was goddamn hilarious.

The voice acting was good, but that's expected from Funimation.

I'm not sure what to make of the show yet, a whole series of Mushroom Samba?
At least I'm looking forward to it more than SAO/Bleach/Naruto, that's a good sign.
