So there is a little tournament thing going on at Nick/Nintensity's place next week? Is it a saturday, because I think that would work out for my friends and I. Please let this be one of those FREE tournaments so we can help train you guys for Edmonton, need all the help most likely! If it is free, I can get Shu and Weeg to go, and we can help you guys out if needed! Any specfic character match ups, you can ask me I guess, I don't mind usually. But mainly. HAVE FUN. Who will go to Nik's then?

Well, I just came back from my Taekwon-do Couquihalla Tourney, And Got Double Gold XD in the Under18 HEAVYWEIGHT Division XD

Well, there wern't that many Heavyweights competing, So they put the best competitior (they just chose by the highest Rank) from the Under16 Lightweight Division...That was me.

So, there I was, Fighting against some guys who were as tall as Adam...but Wider XD. I was just hoping that I wouldn't get body Slammed, lol...But I managed to pull it off, just comboing my punches and kicks, and just speed > Weight. LOL

Anyways, I got a gold in Patterns, and a Gold in Sparring ^-^

Now, (this is my point), after the tourney, I got accepted into going to the Nationals at Edmonton. EDMONTON. (Now, I was jumping for joy when I heard that from my coach...hoping to face against some smashers while i'm there.) But, guess what-

The Nationals is on the 21st. Oh BullShiit.

SO yeah, I'm gonna have to make room to play against you Edmonton people in the evening, because i'll be competing AND Referrie-ing (judjing) during that day.

Also, I'm probably gonna have a Smash thing at my house on Saturday, lol, I'll show you guys my banner that I made for SitF to put on the SWF boards...hehe, its still in contruction though.

Adios Team SitF.

Nice job Nik... now we know your dangerous not only in smash but in real life too hahah. Your place on saturday sounds great, TRAINING time yeah! Its also a holiday (Victoria Day or something) on Friday, any plans then? Hopefully homework doesn't get the best of all of us, but gotta hope for little or none.

That's a dangerous team from Adam and Darius, but now Sheik and Marth... arrrrr lol. I hope some Kamikaze action is able to take that team out, or give it a little challenge at the least!

Patooty/Tiep... where have you been man, haven't shown up on MSN for a while and not responded here too. You wanna go to this, its great practice man.

Nik, we should try that, let's see how it goes. Also I can play some Falco too, just need practice with him, that could be deadly as well. But if we are up against at least ONE Peach.... ouch, I can see it already.

JMM too bad you can't make it, its also not worth that like 5 hr ride for a little smashfest.

Hey guys. I woulda loved to go to the Edmonton thing, you wouldn't even imagine, but I'm not gonna be able to. My mom's scared I'm gonna die on the highway or something. And also, I have a grad cruise on that exact weekend =\ I hope y'all represent Vancouver though. If you're gonna lose to anyone, let it be mike and only mike :p I woulda loved to see how a DK could possible beat my samus though. Good luck gentlemen, show'em what we're made of. Hopefully there's another one in the summer, either here or there.

As for local stuff like this, I can always make it. We still need a time though Nik. I'd love to help everyone get ready for the Edmonton thing. I hear they have at least 1 samus, but I haven't heard how good he is. (Can't be that good, right? :p) btw, is this gonna be tourney or we just gonna have some casual play? I think we should make it a tourney because the first time I played in a real tourney (Adam's house), it wasn't the same as casual play. We gotta get our boys ready :) Tourneys also, in my opinion, are "funner". The matches really get my heart thumping :D Some people crack under pressure and the only way to overcome it is to experience it. I could possibly invite some people if you want to, too. Just to get some experiences with playing new people.

BTW, if lastminute things happen and I COULD go, I'll make sure to post here ASAP.

Just finished up my small tourny yesterday.

It was actually pretty close, I kept making stupid mistakes and almost lost in the final match twice though. :D

I won first overall in the singles, and got 3rd in the doubles.

Even though only the locals came, it was pretty fun and a decent challenge.

It sounds like that Edmonton tourny's working out fine with a couple of you at least.

Tiep, next time I play you, It's my DK vs your Samus ;)

Sunday 1-5, yeah sounds good to me I guess, and oh no, Troy and Nick teaming up? That team will pack a hella lotta speed, I gotta have my wits with me on Sunday. I may be slower than you guys overall but I have my speed spasms every now and then XD. BTW, I've got a surprise for both of you, Nick remembers this "mystery" character all too well

;)

I'll keep you in suspense for now...

Hehe.. Can't wait to face your DK Adam :)
Oh, and if you could, then please post up the lowest price you can find for plane ticks. Greyhound costs more than I though it would. Like.. over a hundred. Plane can't be too much more.. right? Anyway, if by plane then my mom would allow me to go. I'll try to talk to my grad committee about rescheduling the cruise. Probably not though , because they picked the long weekend for a reason.

Oh btw Nick, are Saturdays bad for you? Cause Sundays inconveniance me and Troy. I don't konw what he's doing, but I got churce, and then I got to teach at a Sunday school. Just wondering :)

Lol, now suddenly everyone magically got $$$ for plane :p. I actually don't mind going by plane, but then I have to ditch Jeremy if he doesn't want to/no $$$ to get a plane ticket :(. Anyways, Adam please post the cheapest ticket price you can find (Hope it ain't too expensive).

Also my aunt from Boston came here for a week and we gotta spend time with her, I don't know the days specifically, but she is here. Sorry guys, also I ain't interested too much in a small tournament... yet. I still like that FREE one... its freaking free lol. Practice anyway.

We knew most of the people here more than a year ago, so for us, it hasn't been to recent. This thread just started up and I am quite surprised at the turnout, I believe we met ~5 new people in the area, the more the merrier right? Smash wasn't this big though, now it seems that it is getting quite competitive and actual tournaments, it's getting great. I hope ya'll have fun at Nik's and kick butt everyone.

I am coming, such that I don't let my teammate down =P. I talked to Jeremy, he can probably come as well, having finished his last final exam. He's got a lot of love for the game, so the chances of him missing an event is rather low. He'll probably leave a few words or two in this thread later on when he has the time.

Later!

FLIGHTS TO EDMONTON

ok, I looked and looked and looked.

The cheapest I could find for tickets to and from Edmonton total 249 bux. I suppose after taxes and airport fees, etc. It should total about 300 dollars. Those of you who can't afford it or don't want to pay that much, I was talking to Wilfred and he said he's 100% sure he doesn't want to go through the long drive to Edmonton and he told me he's most likely going by plane. So it looks like plane is the only way. HOWEVER If anyone would prefer to take a train or greyhound, those are always an option as well. I haven't looked into the prices of those, but if you would prefer one of those means of transportation then by all means, look into it and contact the people that will be housing and see if you can get picked up at the train/bus station.

Hmm...

First for the rules do you mean "singles and doubles"? not singles and singles?

Second a lot significant number of us don't really like money as a factor to always play with our own friendly community, because 1 we don't make enough money to spend like this, and 2... money in the picture just makes games a little bit less enjoyable(hard to improve new techniques when you have to win by using top tier, cheap moves etc...). Well, outta the people who wanna say Darius, myself, Wilfred, and Troy (from his post) sounds like they don't like money.

Third, Is it an organized set of matches? As in we all round robin then finals? That's one thing that we should do rather than "wanted matches", that way we can have more practice in the whole counterpick/counter character thing. Repeated matches are actually poor for skill building, because you end up getting used to playing against a certain character, and also instead of learning to "react on the spot" you end up getting used to playing against that players strategy. We also have only 4 hours, where some people might be a little late, so unless people hate my idea, can we leave stuff like 5000 falco dittoes to the end :chuckle: haha

Fourth, I don't mean sound like complaints lol but Nick did say to discuss, and I'm simply speaking out in account for not just myself. So my fourth thing is to say, "That is a great idea!", weekly practice similar to California where some of the greatest smashers were born. They had weekly friendly tournaments so they improved a lot compared to people who lived in places where they only played 1v1 with set friends or only played at a tournament every 2-3 months. Thanks Nick for hosting the idea/place!

Jeremy, you are right man, I do not like to use/waste money, I call it a waste because you guys can easily take that away from me :). Duong and Peter are also cautious of money usage, Peter does not enter tournaments because of losing money, he does not have too much confidence in his skill.

The idea of weeklies are great, but if money is always being used and if it is on sundays, then that lowers the chances of people coming. People have homework and shortages of money, just saying you know, its anyones choice.

I agree that Sundays would inconveniance people. If possible then please make it Saturday. It's awesome that we can have weekly tourneys though. I however, kinda like the money tourneys. Makes it seem more .. "real". I mean.. Once in a while we should have free ones because as Jeremy said, you can't learn new things while always playing at your best. But at the same time, we need experience with all the pressure, and we need to get used to playing our best like that and not cracking under the pressure. This upcoming tourney's only $2 anyways, so it shouldn't be too much of a strain on anyone.

Yeah, money on the line makes it seems better! I was thinking wouldn't it get repetitive just fighting the same old people (just a thought, but people do that anyway, and practice is practice eh)? I hope you guys are having fun anyway, since it is a tournament, I expect full results! Also any vids being done Nik?

Didn't even keep track of who won guys? Nik might have results I am guessing. Yeah sorry Kamikaze couldn't make it, it is a Sunday, a day not to play and slack, a lot of homework goes on.

Eric beat Nik in Falco dittos... Nik is so amazing with his Falco against other chars, but Falco vs Falco seems to be his weakness. I guess Darius was right, Falco just keeps owning Falco :)

Victa won... arrrr, better work hard, if I can't keep up with you guys, I don't think I can beat him too. If it is a Saturday and we do not have plans, hopefully Duong, Peter and I can make it.

Pan Canada tournament, its hard for a lot of us youngsters to travel, we need to money. I guess everyone gotta start saving up dough for this, but my parents will never let me go, so you can count me out. Since these weekly smash fests are happening at Nik's house, maybe pretty soon we should expand it?! Just a thought, I hope your mom would understand Nik (I remember what happened last time).

Yeah.. In the finals it was me and Victa. So dissappointed in myself, losing like that. I don't get much Peach practice though. Hopefuly next tourney will have Eric taking Victa out with pika :p I think I did pretty good though. Beat Adam in a Sheik ditto :) Last time we did that I got two-stocked. 4-stocked Nik in a Samus ditto too. Hehe.. it was pretty fun. Hopefully next time Troy, Duong and Peter can make it out. Still haven't played Troy or Duong 1v1. Troy's tech-skill looks so crazy though.. makes me nervous.

Hey Nik.. do you mind if I invite another person next time. I think he's up to competition level now, although I could still beat him. He really wants to get better and I don't know what advice to give him but to get more experience.

----------------------------------------------------------

Victa- next time for sure I'll getcha, expect some even weirder counterpick stages :)

Eric- Wow.. I think I was lucky again.. not having to face pika. w00t. Mario made me sorta nervous too though.

Jeremy- bleh.. I didn't play you in the RR. Wanted to see how my counterpick would work against Marth. In theory it's good but.. Still gotta test it.

Nik- wow.. You got a crazy Falco.. I don't know how you didn't win a lot more matches than you did.

Darius- LoL.. you came right at the end. Good times :p

Adam- hehe. I've improved a lot since our very first match. Playing you still makes me nervous though. I think it's the pressure I get from you that makes me play better.

Tiep - Awesome Samus man. Glad you finally decided to whip out some other characters for tourney-play though. Samus was getting predictable. Woulda got countered with Falcon all the time. Good job on 2nd man. Know you're not happy with it, but next time :)

Lastly, but not leastly, thanks for hosting, Nik :)

EDIT:***********

One last thing. For next tourney, I think we should allow each person to ban one stage for the duration of the set.
