Fox on fox let's be real you were just violating me in doubles. You also beat the team that beat Cort and Spawn. Tough to argue with that. As for singles, I seem to do ok vs your ICs just because Marth does in general. I need to really learn that matchup I think. Max and I were also discussing how underrated you are. We need to drag you out to another No Johns.

You should make a video with some footage our Falco-Fox team. Needless to say, this takes priority over OTGay. Our team definitely has some potential, but in some of those matches you clearly did not give a ****, thus we had no chance of winning whatsoever. Now I know how Max felt when we played against G$ and alukard.

Dub FX is the ****, I've been so hooked on him recently.
I dunno what's up, I just haven't had much motivation to play smash recently. I think I'm just on an unintentional hiatus, so expect me back and playing more in a week or two.
Oh also, I got around to buying a car, so now I has a prius.
high tier? naaaaaaa, he's mid tier. Axe is unbelievable, but Pikachu has devastatingly bad range and reallllllllly feels it vs. Fox/Falco/Jiggs/Sheik. You can point to Axe's success and talk about how that disproves how relevant this is, but his opponents have perpetual Don't-Know-The-Matchup Johns that feel pretty validated by the fact that Forward apparently dominates Axe at the local level. *shrugs* Axe makes me think pretty highly of Pikachu, but much moreso he makes me think highly of how ****ing good Axe is.

Fair enough, but this seems basically identical to the Mango anti-puff argument people used forever before Hungrybox finally rose up and basically made it an indefensable position. I guess we need a second Pika. It seems kind of contradictory to be simultaneously amazed and impressed by Axe and then also say he's winning because people don't know the matchup.
The idea that a character with this many tools isn't at least on Ganon/Samus/Doc level just seems impossible to me. I mean look at the rest of mid-tier. It's trash.
Just as a note, I've seen posts from Forward saying that he and Axe go back and forth, that they take turns beating each other or something, not that he dominates Axe.

well, making that analogy is fair I guess, but for whatever it's worth, I never felt like I saw the same type of glaring weakness in the Jigglypuff character that I see in Pikachu. I had my doubts of course but I never felt like Jigglypuff could be nearly as outmatched in the neutral position as I think Pikachu is by Fox, Falco, Sheik, and Jiggs.
I think the common thread behind why I think all those characters are in a tier above Pikachu is that I don't think any of them have a bad matchup of the caliber of Pikachu vs. a competent Sheik. I mean, there are individual things about all of them that I think innately make them considerably better than Pikachu, but not having that one matchup that complete futtbucks you seems to be the one difference between all of them and Pikachu that I see.
*shrugs @ Forward stuff* I'm just going off Axe complaining about constantly losing to Forward in his thread about a month back. I just think that there's a particularly brutal lack of familiarity with how Pikachu works among the community. I mean, ****, I'll bet that if I asked the entire smash community how Pikachu's uair works, I'd get a fairly accurate description by like, MAYBE 30% of them, and that's being generous. I don't think anyone was confused by the individual moves done by Jigglypuff players over their rise to power, it was just about their flawless execution and broader strategy shifts.
My point remains that Pikachu gets completely ruined by 1) lack of range and 2) no reliable way to consistently land a kill move vs. half the cast.

While there may be some truth to the argument that people aren't very familiar with the matchup, I don't really understand arguments like "it's not puff, it's mango" or "it's not pika, it's Axe". These guys aren't robots or immortals, and yes they are amazing players, but they are actually using those characters to win. It demonstrates that at a very high level of play the character is viable. No other mid-tier main even comes close to what Axe is doing with Pika (taking mango's falco to 1 stock in the pound 4 bracket?).
I don't see why people had to wait for Hungrybox to validate Jiggs. Whether or not the player using the character is amazing or not is not the point. The point is that they are using that character, so at some presumably very high skill level that character is viable.
To value the individual player's skill in downgrading the character makes the tier list seems like it doesn target the highest level of play. It's like "okay, it's not really reasonable for anyone to be as good as Axe with pikachu, so the results Axe has achieved with pikachu don't really count. Normally pikachu is a mid-tier character."
This is more of a critique of how characters are ranked in general and whether or not the amazingness of the player should undermine their accomplishments with the character.
I do think there's no way in hell pikachu is a mid-tier, though.
Edit: Didn't see Wes's post. It's a legit point about the sheik roadblock. I haven't seen Axe have any success against good sheiks (he probably just plays falco vs them). I don't really get the range argument all when there's 2 straight money matches right there of pikachu *** ****** mango while he plays the most ranged character in the game. It's not like fox has amazing range or anything. He makes up for it with mobility and speed, same with pika. To me the ****ty aspect of pika is that he's just a meaty combo weight yet still dies off the top early so it seems like he can get punished pretty badly. Tough to edgeguard tho.

I'd like to go up to NYU again to play, but sadly I'm incapable incapable of navigating the city. OTG, if you end up going then I may tag along.
