Some of these enhancable spirits (Diego Armano, Dahlia, Shadi Smith,...) would be major spoilers for the Ace Attorney games. Therefore I don't like this idea too much, especially considering many people would try out the Ace Attorney games thanks to Smash.

So what does everyone think of the Ace Attorney anime? I've been binge watching the dub and personally. I love it, mostly due to all the voice actor sounding exactly like how I imagined these characters sounding when I first played these games on the DS.

With two exceptions being Godot and Gumshoe, I expected Godot to have a deeper voice like his "Objection!" Voice clip in the game and I always pictured Gumshoe being voiced by Patrick Warburton lol But aside from that its perfect casting all around.

I only watched season 1 and I liked it. It’s no replacement for the games but for people that already played them it’s cool.

I can’t unsee Patrick Warburton as Gumshoe now.

I personally love it (both subbed and dubbed) and it is one of my guilty pleasures. I know a lot of AA fans hate it for not being 1:1 with the games but since I already beat the games multiple times and I treat it as its own thing, I have been able to enjoy it.

I have no clue how I havent joined the supporter list yet. One of my favorite series (I really need to replay them bc looking back I've forgotten most of what happens past the first game) and definitley someone who needs to be in smash, to represent his genre and the DS.

Those two flasflash filler episodes have to be some of my favorite stories in this series. It's just so neat to see smol Phoenix, Edgeworth, Larry and Franziska and the moment where Edgeworth decided to become a prosecutor following Nicks words of support "Whatever you decide to do I'll support you 100 percent!"

The flashback episodes and Turnabout Express are proof that the anime should be original cases if it returns for a season 3.

Don't get me wrong: seeing the first three games animated was a treat, but it's clear the quality suffers trying to cram in a video game's pacing in two to four episodes. It needs to be its own thing after the Hawthorne arc.

Having said that, I am so excited to see that aforementioned saga animated.

Aw, I loved that one. But I'm a Layton fan so I'm used to absolutely silly out of nowhere twists and I loved all the characters in that final stretch so it was just a fun time for me.
I knew about Layton twists. I'm sort of a Layton fan myself. But the crossover's ending took it too far to the point of making the whole story practically pointless, feats that we accomplished not, and any sense of danger rendered useless, without going into spoilers.

My hopes for the anime is that if and when they decide to adapt the Apollo justice trilogy they decide to A. Be more consistent (I hated how every part of Apollo' s backstory feels like it came out of nowhere) and B. Edit the story a bit to make it clear that this trilogy IS Apollo' s story, since the 3DS games did a bad job at doing that.

While it might not mean much, I do love how between, Reddit, Smashboards (yes even we had our own Capcom Poll), Gamefaqs, etc. Across the internet, whenever a poll for Capcom characters in Smash pops up, Phoenix consistently manages to win.
Gross, GameFAQs.

Seems like the Phoenix voters are the silent majority on that poll. Not surprising considering a visual novel most likely isn't popular among the community there.

Also people need to realize that while Ace Attorney is niche in the west, the character Phoenix Wright is not. Ace Attorney also has a very good presence in Japan, which people tend to ignore. Countless musicals (including a song that has 9m YouTube views), a pachinko machine, an anime, an attraction at a theme park, a live action movie, and a manga. Do any of the other Capcom IPs have these?

As for Dante and Leon pioneering a genre - it can be argued Ace Attorney did the same for visual novels.

That was a neat touch. I thought they did that case justice in the anime, especially Viola who got some much needed screen time that felt lacking in the game.

It was fast though. Blimey they sped through it, but didn't leave out any importance details aside from cutting Lisa Basil completely which wasn't important to begin with.

I need to watch the anime episode. Viola is one of my favorite minor characters from the game so if she gets a little bit of extra screentime it'll definitely be fun to see.

I think I'll try and watch the whole series dubbed just to reminisce a little. I just don't have a lot of time these days.

Recipe was fun to watch. They really did it well. Tigre, Kudo, and Viola were on point and I thought the anime added an extra layer to all of them.

Basically the complete reverse of Stolen Turnabout which I felt was not doing the case justice.

I cannot wait for the next reveal. It will confirm or disconfirm the current rumors. Personally hoping for the latter as the current hot topic list doesn't interest me.

Don't be coy. You know the ones.
You mean we're still on those 5chan rumors?? Oy vey. That said though, Erdrick would not confirm nor deny the chan rumor. In fact if anything, if he's not 1-to-1 as the 5chan leak described, it likely means it's fake.

Unless you're talking about a new Smash rumor involving Phoenix Wright.

I want to throw in my support. I just started playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Dual Destinies and I really love the game so far. I'm planning on getting the other games too if I have the time for that.

It's all uphill from there, Duel destinies was the worst one.

I have quite a few problems with Dual Destinies personally.

Athena didn't need to exist because having her around alongside Phoenix, Apollo and Trucy as well as them bringing in Pearl and Edgeworth bloated the main cast to a point where everyone was fighting for screen time. A problem that still persists in Spirit of justice.

It feels like the current writers have no idea what they are doing compared to the original writer who had a clear vision in the original trilogy

Spirit of Justice sucks for a whole host of reasons and Athena is responsible for none of them

She does contribute to my main problem which is the huge cast with everybody getting little development or screen time.

The main selling point for spirit of justice was that Maya came back but she hardly shows up in the game at all.

Also Doesn't Athena have the worst case in the game though?

...uh no. Apollo's first case in that game is by far the worst in the game.

that was pretty much the only case I liked in that game.

It came the closest to feeling like a proper Apollo justice sequel, something that Dual Destinies should have been.

I love Athena and she’s one of my favorite Ace Attorney characters, but I agree. She basically makes Trucy redundant, and with Maya’s return in SoJ and Ema going back to her old personality, there’s way too many similar characters with nowhere near enough roles to cover (something Takumi deliberately avoided with AJ, keeping Maya and Pearl out and making Ema gloomy).

Imo the worst cases in SoJ are the Khurain ones. Can’t decide on which, but probably the first one. I find them too gimmicky and reliant on Khurainese culture, rather than a straightforward, well-written mystery like the magic one and Athena’s.

does nobody else not have a least favourite?
I'm with you, it is really difficult to rank and I couldn't say with ease which was the worst game. That being said, the fact that it seems that no one can agree on what they liked/disliked (DD and SOJ would both be high on my list) might give credence to the series, as it has something for everyone in this diverse fanbase.

Hmm well if we're being honest we all have a game we prefer and like the least. I do think all the games have merit although from the main line games Dual Destinies does ruffle my feathers the most. It's too easy, the dialogue/translation is rather weak and are more childish than the previous games, the characters they added are pretty forgettable, and the investigations are rather pointless due to no free will. The pros are that the focal plotline is very good, the DLC case is well written, and the character specific themes are incredible.

...It's just that it strips aways so much from the series mechanically. The free will investigations, the lawyer powers actually have difficulty, and so on are needs for the series.

In terms of story I find the first Investigations to be the worse. The Yatagarasu was interesting, but it took half the game to get going and I didn't feel the impact of its conclusion. The smuggling ring was weak and the finale drags on for no reason. Also case 3 is really bad which doesn't help matters. Case 4 is a gem though.

I just hope we get a new writing staff in the future. I think it's pretty clear that Yamazaki's team has no idea what they want to actually do with the series compared to how Yaluni handled things.

I'd probably go with the first investigations as my least favourite too. I don't remember being that interested in the smuggling ring and the conclusion wasn't that satisfying overall. (though it had its moments)

The second investigations was such a massive leap upwards though and is up there as one of my favourite Ace Attorney games.

Yeah it's no doubt the biggest leap in quality between two successive game releases.

Just so long as we don't get another trainwreck like Ace Attorney 4.
Oh you people and your Apollo Justice hate. The plot could have gone somewhere if Takumi hadn't left Capcom. Alas because of this separation AJ suffered in hindsight.
