I was close to submitting the tree freshener from Desert Bus as a Spirit as Gearbox made the remake, until I found out the remake never came out on Nintendo hardware so it's inelegible. Penn & Teller weren't a concern in my eyes since Dr. Kawashima is named in Smash as well.

We will continue to allow Pit/Meta Knight/Zero Suit Samus Alt costumes for the remainder of the weekend. Please submit them when you can! We have 3 total ones for Zero Suit, 3 for Pit, and 2 for Meta Knight.

We will begin our next job in a little bit and will be focused on veteran updates and changes.

WTF Mii Costume Results


Thank you to Krookodilian Krookodilian for compiling the results of the WTF costume votes! The crazy party game Fall Guys will be appearing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Mii Costume! However, as with much of our content, we will resort to the second place finisher should Fall Guys be confirmed as a future Mii Costume. If we do get one, then Wiimote Safety Fellow will be our new costume!

PIT, META KNIGHT, and ZERO SUIT SAMUS alt colors/costumes are still eligible until Sunday night so please keep that in mind!

Job #123: Update a (Small) Quality-of-Life Change for a Veteran

During the entire Ultimate E3 2018 montage, we were given a glimpse on how each character was updated. This included adding Cappy to Mario, Olimar"s crackable helmet, Donkey's expanding dong expressions, Bayonetta's different gunshot sounds, and all of the HUD changes for character's like Villager, Robin, and Cloud. Previously, we gave full moveset revamps to characters like Ganondorf and Young Link along with partial moveset revamps for characters like Samus and Donkey Kong. One particular update we gave was Hero which included icons for his spells. This is the sort of small but quality-of-life change that we would like to see to the veteran roster.

Here are some ideas that we are shooting for but feel free to come up with your own!
  • Update or improve a normal/special move that doesn't fully swap it out
  • Update a character's appearance that is on par to its modern appearance
  • Update the characters HUD of a character that ties with a mechanic
  • Provide an appearance update that's based on a certain situation
  • Make a move more viable (such as extended frames, damage output, of characteristics)
  • etc, etc, etc.

To refresh yourself, please check out the E3 2018 Ultimate veteran montage to see what sort of changes.

We do ask not to change up a Final Smash as we will be doing that on a later date.

Chrom is removed from all Robin's victory screens and is replaced by Morgan, or if that doesn't work, Tharja. Nothing is drastically changed, just some voice lines. She would also be replacing him in the final smash in cosmetics only

On this, should it get accepted, maybe we should do a poll on which Awakening character gets Chrom's old spot? Feels like there are multiple that would work.

Job 123: Peach/Daisy: P-Wing

The Peach/Daisy Bomber has been changed to to something a little more on-character, Peach or Daisy flying forwards with the P-Wing. It is functionally identical. When the move lands Peach or Daisy delivers a powerful slap instead of a butt-bash. The heart effects upon slap remain, but the heart effects when on the move are replaced with feather particles.

QOL CHANGE: Homing Attack Taunt

Normally in a Smash game, Sonic just kinda bounces off his opponent whenever hitting them with a Homing Attack. That's hardly true to his home series, where after Homing Attacking an enemy, Sonic will strike a flashy pose, symbolizing his unique 90's' attitude and style. So you can understand how out of character it is for Sonic to just fall, stiff as a board, not expressing any emotion or anything. There are a lot of ways to improve Sonic in Smash (which I will go into further detail with once he is considered for moveset revamps and possibly a second playable character), but I feel this is the most important. Tricking off of Homing Attacks is an essential part of Sonic's character and without it he frankly feels like an imitation of himself.
Anyways, onto the QOL update itself. As seen above, Sonic will perform a midair taunt when he successfully hits his opponent, and like most of the Homing Attack's appearances, Sonic will have a list of tricks to go through. I can't come up with a concise list at the moment, but one of them would have Sonic reference the box art for Sonic Adventrue, as seen above (photo comes from Project M, which also included a taunt system for the Homing Attack).
But what does this mean for competitive Sonic players and those who fight them? Well, the taunt hardly changes anything. It works like Incineroar's post-move taunts where part of it can be cancelled by any other input. In Smash Infinite, the taunts would just replace the non-taunt animation Sonic currently has. Of course, if you feel like a showoff, you could just let the whole animation play out and not capitalize on possible combo potential...but let's be honest, if you're playing Sonic you're not trying to look cool.
But what happens if you miss and bounce off of the ground or a shield, or just hit nothing? Well, same animations as before, only Sonic will now look much more agitated when he misses.

Meta Knight Alt: Dark Matter Swordsman (Grey)

While Generally it makes sense to save the Kirby baddies for references in Galacta Knight's skin Selection, as another caped sword wielding Kirby Orb, I would be a missed opportunity not to include a skin based on the Dark Matter Swordsman from both Kirby's Dreamland 2 and Kirby Planet Robobot. The alt would be similar to the mockup with a few differences. The cape would be a more off white shade, closer to Brown, and Meta Knight would have his normal eyes, albeit greyed out, as opposed to the singular eye in the mockup.

Pit Alt: Eggplant Pit (Purple)

While Pit's Dark Pit Alt features a purple scarf and headpiece, and His Cyan alt features Bright Purple wings, Pit has no dedicated Purple Alt. Referencing one of his transformations even Present in the NES Kid Icarus. I also thought about submitting an Eggplant Wizard Alt, that may make more sense for Medusa as she and the Eggplant Wizard are both baddies. Pits Toga would turn a dark purple, as well as the fluff and X on his boots turning a a subtler purple. His Wings and Scarf would turn Dark Green just like the Top of the Eggplant.

Zero Suit Samus Alt: Dark Samus (Cyan)

Two Mockups were found for this, and while the first one with the Yellow eyes is cooler, the second one is much more realistic. A common piece of fan art is what a hypothetical Zero Suit Dark Samus would look like, so referencing this would be a cool idea for an alt. The Cyan also sets it apart from the existing Black Zero Suit skin. While this may be a slightly drastic alt compared to her other alts, a similar change was done for link with his Fierce Deity Link skin so theres some precedent for somewhat drastic texture changes for a cool reference.​

It’s rather odd that Bowser could not even talk in previous Smash Bros games. So for this project, Bowser has been given the ability to talk, because it’s long overdue.

Also with that said, Bowser will preform his evil laugh during his back taunt, while his growls from the Mario series will be added instead of the Smash Growls
Is it OK to add Dialog in a Final Smash or not?

Chrom is removed from all Robin's victory screens and is replaced by Morgan, or if that doesn't work, Tharja. Nothing is drastically changed, just some voice lines. She would also be replacing him in the final smash in cosmetics only
I just want to mention that we will be doing Final Smash revamps at a later date so the ending portion is ineligible. Feel free to elaborate on that when we eventually get to that job.

Keep in mind that spirits won't disconfirm characters, so if you feel like submitting a character as a spirit go ahead. (I may or may not be doing that later on Nintendo's day)

This wasn't directly stated before but we would like to keep spirits from new series (series without spirit content in Ultimate, series without major content in Infinite) at a maximum of 4. Sorry for the miscommunication!

In my opinion, I think Bowser works best with his modern sounds over actual dialogue. Not the modern sounds as in his demonic growling in Smash but the sounds he makes in the Mario games. I guess Bowser has talked before in dialogue bubbles but idk, it feels weird to here him have full on dialogue when he's never done so in his games.

Maybe have him grumble the lines, so you can only make them out with keen ears?

When Hero has Psyche Up active or a Final Smash ready their Hair changes

For Eleven and 3 their hair becomes blue



For Eight his hair becomes purple and spikes up



4's Hair becomes purple but doesn't spike up.

This is the closest to Dragon Ball Z that Infinite will get. Otherwise, it’ll take five while matches for Hero to get to that stage.

QOL Update/Sephiroth
When Sephiroth casts Gigaflare, it brings forth the darkening animation like this…



But add a dark green filter seen during the Advent Children fight between him and Cloud. This would occur on every stage including Northern Cave.

Robin

Chrom replaced by Tharja in Robin's victory animations

Robin's victory animations will work as this now. Using this video for reference


1. The first victory taunt stays the same, but Tharja is seen creeping in the background off in the distance the entire time
2. The second scene will be reworked a bit. Robin will show off with his/her magic but Tharja, who is much closer to him now, will be behind him and use some dark magic, startling him
3. Robin prepares to pose with Chrom as he usually would, but instead when he turns around Tharja is standing right next to him, which make Robin jump and drop his sword and thomes.
