Pit sees his fighting in Smash as part of his angelic duties and is intent on proving himself to that end. He takes every fight extremely seriously and puts his all into everything - to the extent that, more often than not, he ends up overcompensating and injuring himself. Fighting Palutena is especially perplexing for him, as he's always instinctively holding back and trying not to hurt her. For her part, Palutena humours him by letting him get a few clean hits in and tries to go easy on him - of course, being the feisty deity that she is, her ego soon takes over and she ends up clobbering him with extreme prejudice. She makes up for it by buying him ice-cream and taking him to the hot springs afterwards.
Palutena loves hot springs. She will take advantage of any and all opportunities to bathe and routinely invites her fellow female friends to join her for a god old fashioned spa day.
Lucina is unable to let things come or go easily: still haunted by the memories of the ruined future, she refuses to hold back on anybody and views fighting as much more than just a friendly competition. Meeting the Hero-King Marth in person is a huge boon to her and plays a major part in her learning to take things a little less seriously and just enjoy herself. Seeing how Marth is able to overcome the tragedies in his life inspires the aspiring young lord to constantly better herself and not let her emotional insecurities get in the way of fighting for what she believes in. Since she's new to Smash, she's still learning the ins and outs of the competition and finds it difficult to trust people - particularly the infamous villains that she encounters - and Marth's tutelage and guidance enables her to view these people as potentially good friends rather than just worthy opponents.
Ike comes across as cold and aloof to people who meet him, but he's actually just quiet. He's a big softie at heart and loves playing with the younger fighters, always eager to engage them in sparring matches and help them hone their skills. Of course, he's also keen to become stronger and improve his own latent talents, and seldom passes up the chance to fight his fellow warriors. Clashes between himself and Captain Falcon have become the stuff of legend and the two are tied neck-and-neck for the honour of being declared the superior warrior - if Ike ever has a problem or needs somebody to talk to, the Captain is the first person he goes to, and the Captain is honoured and pleased to have such a proud and noble fighter as his closest friend and confidant.
Villager is best friends with Ness and the two like to play games together when they're not fighting. They occasionally play pranks on the older fighters, though never maliciously - they know to respect their elders, of course.
Ness misses Lucas dearly, but holds out hope that the latter will return some day. After he heard that Lucas couldn't make it this time, he began training daily to improve his own PK powers, pushing himself beyond his normal limits to become stronger for both of their sakes. To honour his most beloved of friends, he honed his body and spirit until he learned how to wield Lucas's powers. He now fights on behalf of both himself and his friend, awaiting the day when Lucas will return and they will be able to show off their newfound PK powers to each-other.
Wolf secretly taught Fox to use his moves before leaving the competition, citing "business to take care of" as his personal reasons for stepping out. He has sworn to return, though, and before his departure, told Fox to be prepared: "If anybody's gonna finish you off, big guy, it's gonna be me. Don't forget it."
Captain Falcon didn't intend to be so tough on Lucina when they first met, believing it was just a friendly sparring match. Robin scolded him afterwards for being too hard on the girl and the Captain thereafter apologised to her. He's interested in her potential and occasionally spars with her to see how she's gradually improving. When he's not fighting, he likes to train with Ike - their rivalry even extends to the training studio, with the two constantly trying to outdo each-other in push-ups and long-distance sprinting.
Little Mac and Wii Fit Trainer have a good professional relationship, as Mac is always going to the training studio to get ready for future fights. Doc Louis likes the Trainer as a person and is glad to have some help with coaching Mac, though he does tend to hide his chocolate bars when around her for fear of incurring her wrath.
Wii Fit Trainer is truly awe-inspiring when angered. She never displays her rage externally, instead letting her emotions manifest themselves as tranquil fury. Even Ike and Captain Falcon are known to run away very, very fast when she gets fired up.
Samus is surprisingly fond of Pikachu. The Subspace incident has given her a profound sense of respect for the electric Pokémon and she is quick to come to the latter's aid should the need arise. She has heard rumours that Ridley may have been invited to the competition and is prepping her arm cannon for such a day. There will be blood.
Wario wasn't actually invited to the competition: he heard that it was beind held and decided he wanted in on that action. He snuck in when nobody was looking and everybody just decided to let him stick around.
Ganondorf is actually pretty cool outside of the arena. The younger fighters look up to him as a sort of grandfather figure, and as much as he claims to regard them as inferior and annoying, he actually loves the attention and appreciates that people still admire and respect him and his awesome power. He is incredibly proud of his power and seeks out strong opponents to test himself against, hoping that somebody will be able to entertain him. He's always content to help others train to that end, confident that he can create strong fighters that will some day be able to give him the challenge he so intensely desires.
Pac-Man and Mr Game & Watch are best buddies and the two regularly get together to reminisce about "the good old days". They're glad that they can still keep up with the young 'uns and are intent on proving that they're not old has-beens just yet.
Luigi is smitten with Rosalina and is always planning to ask her out. Rosalina is blissfully unaware of his advances and still considers him to just be a good friend. He is a little bit flustered whenever he sees his brother socialising with her, though he still loves his brother dearly and is willing to smile and go along with it all the same. Maybe some day, love will blossom between these two estranged new friends.
Dark Pit wants nothing to do with Pit or Palutena, though Pit constantly pesters him and wants to fight him and Palutena just loves teasing him for the sheer hell of it. He genuinely entered the competition to improve his skills and fight and doesn't get why everybody's so nice to each-other outside of the arena.
R.O.B. really, really wants to make Professor Hector proud of him. As a robot, he is unable to feel human emotions, though he does possess a certain sensation in his AI software that makes him want to fight on to better himself. He does not understand this phenomenon and is seeking to understand it by analysing it and gathering empirical data on such a peculiar abstraction - the phenomenon human beings call "love". He has become good friends with Ness as a result and the former is trying to teach the latter about the values of love and friendship, overall with decidedly mixed results.
Chrom recovered shortly after the fight with Captain Falcon and there are no hard feelings between the two. He was offered a place in the competition, but he declined, saying he wanted to watch his daughter grow and mature as a fighter instead. He still joins the battle from time to time to come to the aid of his old friend, though, and secretly longs for the day when he will be able to duel with his daughter as an equal. He also wants to fight the Captain again and settle the score for good.
