My first game was Super Mario Bros. 3 in 1993 when I was 2, followed by Super Mario Bros. + Duck Hunt and Tetris (all of them on the NES).
I dont give a damn about Sega characters other than Sonic in Smash. If Nintendo did buy Sega (which I completely support) I honestly wouldn't care if Sonic was the only Sega rep.
Sega IPs just never appealed much to me.
Play more Sonic the Hedgehog, Skies of Arcadia, Total War, Golden Axe, Nights, Ecco the Dolphin, Jet Set Radio, and Valkyria Chronicles, and your mind will be changed.
Double post. (>_>)
Nope.

First game:

And I haven't looked back since. Except all those times I looked back to play NES games. :awesome:

If Nintendo bought Sega, even though I wouldn't be too thrilled about the flood of Sonic characters on to the roster, if it meant we might be able to get NiGHTS or Vyse (or Vectorman or Beat), I'd be content.

While I'm at it, Nintendo ought to buy Platinum Games. Those guys are geniuses, much like how the people over at Monolith Soft are geniuses.
Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles in Smash... oh god plz
Knuckles in Smash would make me shed man tears via other peoples' bodies.

Also, Metal Sonic as a boss would be amazing.

Yeah, but that same thing largely happened with the Xbox 360 against the PS3 and the Wii. The PS3 started strong, and then folded, while the Wii took over. Considering the WiiU is about to get a heck of a lot better games than either console, eventually, that will help sell a lot of WiiU's.
Hopefully you are right. Smash and Mario Kart 8 next year are gonna be huge. I hope Nintendo has an even sicker line next fall to get the ball really rolling.
Part of the WiiU's lack of sales is economical, part of it is poor/limited marketing. All of that in time will be fixed. I imagine the Xbox One will run into both issues, while the PS4 will definitely run into the former. Also, the limited library problem the WiiU is currently facing is one that the Xbox One and PS4 will face (although likely not as bad, except the Xbox One will definitely not have the same quality of exclusives).
Part of the Wii U's lack of sales is economical, but a big part of it is the lack of games. Which is the reason why Iwata has came out and apologized for the lack of games on a couple occasions. I'm sure the PS4 and Xbox 1 will come with their issues. From DRM, hardware failures to stock shortages, but it seems like these 2 systems have a lot more support from game devs and fans than the Wii U.
As for 3rd party developers, I don't think many of them will make a noticeable impact until late 2015. Usually it takes most 3rd party developers about that long to make quality games for a new console, specifically multi-console games. On top of that, a lot of developers will be just fine with making PS3 and Xbox 360 games for a larger amount of people who own the console and thus about 10 times as many people could potentially buy said games.
As for 3rd party developers Nintendo has, they got Bayonetta 2 and 3 exclusive Sonic games. That should help sell WiiU's.
I believe Bayonetta 2 and these 3 Sonic games are considered 2nd Party. But they should help out regardless. Nintendo will be fine in 2 years time on the 1st party front what they need are 3rd Party devs to help round out their library, with the Tomb Raiders, Borderlands and Street Fighter 4: Ultra (which is sad)

Lol, why do people seem to think that every Sonic character in existence would be added just because of Sega being bought

We dont even have that many Mario and Pokemon characters and those are Nintendo's golden geese

As long as we don't get Shadow wasting a spot (unless as a late clone or a totally original character that made me want to play the game), Big The Cat, Cream, or any other stupid Sonic character, I'd be fine.

And to be honest, if that happened, I think Sakurai would stop it at Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman. Those are the only 4 characters that are totally original and important to the franchise, as well as the only Sonic characters I imagine that he sees of that matter.

Nintendo ought to buy SEGA. That way, at least in regards to smash bros, all of this "Sonic won't return" crap will go away, and we can finally get Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman Robotnik in Smash! :shades: Plus, that would give us more potential newcomers to actually care about to want.

I don't know about you guys, but Ridley and K. Rool are the only two potential newcomers (with a reasonable chance) I really want, while Isaac, Shulk, Dixie Kong, Pac-Man, and pre-Sticker Star Paper Mario. If most of those are gone, especially the first two, there's no newcomers left for me to really want.

With SEGA being bought out by Nintendo, not just can we get all those 3 Sonic characters, but all kinds of SEGA characters like Nights, a few Virtua Fighter characters, AiAi, Beat (Jet Set Radio), Alex Kidd, Vyse (Skies of Arcadia), someone from Valkyria Chronicles, and heck, maybe even a character from one of my favorite series, Total War! :chuckle:
They can't just add a bunch of random SEGA characters and franchises willy nilly. Also I still believe there are plenty of potential newcomers for other series.

Mario: Bowser Jr. (highest chance) Rosalina. (decent chance) Toad, Waluigi. (low chance) and Dry Bowser. (???)

Zelda: Not so sure about this one, the only ones I can think of are Impa or Ghirahim. (maybe Vaati)
but none of them have a truly good chance.

Donkey Kong: They would probably only add K.Rool to please longtime DK fans or to give the DK series a villain character, he hasn't had an appearance in any DK game as of late. Dixie, on the other hand will be in Tropical freeze, so I won't be surprised if we find out she's in when that game comes around.

Metroid and Kid Icarus have Ridley and Palutena as the most potential newcomers respectivly. Kid Icarus might still get a villainous character too, like Hades.

SEGA fanboys would clamor for every Sonic character ever. It would literally be worse than all of the worst Fire Emblem and Pokémon character fanboys making babies and spamming topics together. Those people act like every Sonic character matters, even though the buck pretty much stops at Sonic, Tails, Dr. Eggman, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, and Metal Sonic.

And to quote someone who is also smart...
Because lol Sonic fanbase.

If Nintendo bought SEGA, if you thought people wanting Toad, Bowser Jr., Shadow Mario, Tharja, *insert other Fire Emblem characters here*, and Daisy in her sports outfit were bad, wait until you meet the Rouge, Cream, and Big the Cat Sonic franchise fanboys with no lives.

How does Rosalina, a character with 4 appearances overall in the mario series (galaxies), have a higher chance then toad a playable character in 5 main games, about 12 npc appearances in main games , and countless playable and npc appearance in spin-offs

First game I ever played was Sonic and Knuckles.

I remember my dad the demo of the game on the computer, and I would play through that demo like a fiend.
It was only the first level and it would end right after you defeat Eggman.
I tried to find ways to break the demo to access the rest of the game. :rotfl:

I had an epic childhood too.

I played Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, Namco Museum Arrangment, Luigi's Mansion, Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition, among many other awesome games.

Melee was actually what introduced me into several Nintendo games, I wasn't very familiar with Mario, Pokemon, and only knew a little about Zelda at the time. I didn't even know about Starfox, Kirby, Metroid, F-Zero, Mother, Ice Climbers, or Fire Emblem at the time.

Totally agreed, though I recall hearing somewhere that Platinum enjoyed their independence, and was one of the reasons they formed in the first place. I'd be satisfied if they just became sort of partners with Nintendo and started working on some existing IPs like Starfox and Takamaru's.

As long as we don't get Shadow wasting a spot (unless as a late clone or a totally original character that made me want to play the game), Big The Cat, Cream, or any other stupid Sonic character, I'd be fine.

I agree, but unfortunately, while four Sonic characters (hopefully those four) is totally fair, in my mind it'd also be a flood... considering we'd probably get at least three new ones at once... and I'm not particularly looking forward to if we ever did get another Sonic character (though I'd take Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman over Shadow any day). But others would like it, and they'd be Nintendo characters, so hopefully should that ever happen, we'd also get some non-Sonic Sega characters to balance things out. And not just AiAi or Amigo or something. :p

Because Toad doesn't have much he could use to fight. (his arms and legs are so short he would probably have a harder time fighting with them than Jigglypuff does)

I think Rosalina is more of a popular character as well.

If SEGA was added to Nintendo, they shouldn't add ALL the Sonic characters.

Just Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Robotnick, Scratch, Grounder, Coconuts, Sally Acorn, Rogue, Silver, Cream, Big, Vector, Espio, Charmy, Mighty, Bunnie, Sonia, Manic, Rotor, SHadow, Gamma, Omega, Beta, Blaze, Chaos, Bark, Fang, Bean and Metal Sonic

Edit: Forgot Jet, Wave, Storm and Tails Doll

Smash and Mario Kart 8 are just the beginning of 2014 for Nintendo. I wouldn't rule out a new Metroid, Star Fox, or Animal Crossing WiiU for next year, either.
But that issue is about gone given the new titles coming out for the WiiU, especially the WiiU exclusives, starting with Pikmin 3, which is already out everywhere but the Americas for whatever God forsaken stupid reason.
Bayonetta 2 is 100% a second party release, whereas the 3 Sonic games I think are still owned by SEGA, but I imagine SEGA signed a deal to only re-release them on Nintendo consoles (unless Nintendo stops making consolesof course). And yeah, games like Tomb Raider, GTA V, MGS V (or anything MGS), Borderlands, and Street Fighter/Capcom fighting game related would be great. Heck, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on the WiiU was great. I imagine with Namco Bandai's WiiU experiences that we can expect future Soul Calibur and Tekken games on the WiiU.

I just disregard the people requesting anime characters because they have no idea how crossovers work.
But I see a lot of the time that just because Sonic is in, a ****-ton of his fans suddenly think Smash should just be an assortment of doofy looking hodgepigs.

If Rosalina is anything other than a trophy I will eat a brick.
Also, Toad argument is invalid. Look at Kirby and Jigglypuff. Their attacks have their arms extend (I noticed Mario and DK do this too) for further range.

So now that we all agree that most of the depth-creating mechanics in Melee were by design or intentional. . .

Depth lends to competition in a fighting game, it is always, beyond a doubt, better to have a deep game than a shallow game. Fighting games, in this way, must be competitive to be good, or in comparative words, better. This is not disregarding the casual player, the casual player does little with depth, and is rarely influenced by it, there is absolutely NO harm to them done when depth is added. Unless you consider more skilled people bodying them harmful :troll:. . . which it isn't.

Anyways guys, I can't wait to see what happens with Nintendo, at this point it has weathered so many storms it looks like it will never die, a hardy company indeed.
With Japan's monetary market being under central banking, and the general economic failure of the modern state, and the Wii U's, as of now, somewhat lackluster performance, this is actually rather exciting.
Historically, institutions with less bureaucracy tend to last longer, I wonder what the internal structure of Nintendo looks like. . . ?

SEGA, Monolith (are they 1st party?) and Platinum games would all be great additions to Nintendo
Monolith Soft is 100% owned by Nintendo, and SEGA and Platinum Games would be great for Nintendo.

Imagine how much unique things Platinum Games could do with Nintendo consoles. These are the same people that made Resident Evil 1 and 2 (and some of them RE4), Devil May Cry 1 and 3 (not 2, lol), Okami, Viewtiful Joe (that poor dead franchise), Bayonetta 1, and a crap ton of other games that I can't name but I wish I could because they are all awesome. Seriously, the Platinum Games crew has made nothing but incredible games.
The Sonic fanbase? Lol come on now, anime characters get requested all the time, does that mean we should care or that they'll even be in?

I'm not paranoid about them being right, I'm paranoid about them taking over these boards. Some of them are bad enough, but it could get a lot worse a lot fast. Trust me, if you have been around the Sonic fanbase, you know that they have a knack for destroying all the good in the world that is around them faster than most people can imagine.

Yeah, Smash introduced to a BUNCH of new franchises. I didn't know about Earthbound, Fire Emblem, and even Metroid before I played Smash. I'm sure plenty of Nintendo fanboys were also introduced to Metal Gear Solid because of Snake

1. Captain Falcon disproves they doesn't have much to fight already, despite the fact toad can use every power up mario can, and can use his abilities in SMB2

2. Toad is very popular in japan (I'll have to ask chrono but I remember someone saying that), and is fourth I believe in mario characters in shorty's pole
