Remember how if you weren't facing the stage, you couldn't grab the ledge even if you were touching it, leading to many really stupid deaths.
To be fair, I actually liked that,and missed it in Brawl. It gave a touch of realism.:p

Not too fond of the magnetic hands everyone gained in Brawl.

It doesn't mean many ideas, gameplay elements, and competitive aspects can't return. If they make the game better, they should return.

If you are in the stressful video game development industry and you aren't having fun at that high of a level, you are doing it wrong.
I'm fine with certain aspects returning but my beef is with people who basically want a carbon copy of Melee. I'm fine with it being competitive but some people really need to lay off when they insist that it should be exactly like Melee. Also, granted, I'm sure Sakurai and his team do have a lot of fun making the games but at the end of the day, it's still their 9-5 (or probably 7-5 knowing Sakurai) and the fans do little more than buy the games.

I thought the "magnetic hands" gravitation to the edge was bull (grabbing an edge 5 feet away without reaching out your arms is stupid), but I actually liked the ability to grab the edge facing the other ways. After all, spinning around to grab the edge makes sense (although I would like a spinning animation for each character).

However, I hated that it automatically cancelled every attack so you grabbed the edge. I wish there was some input to stop that.

I also wish that the Brawl edge invincibility frames were just a direct port of Melee's edge invincibility frames. Brawl's edge invincibility frame amount was stupid broken. But hey, it was Game Arts, and they sure know how to screw things up, which is why they got cut from Smash WiiU and Smash3DS! :laugh:

Sure, but what's the point of realism in Smash. I would argue it doesn't make sense purely from a game design perspective. I mean, the character is right there, touching the ledge, and yet they are not grabbing it. When you touch the ledge you are supposed to grab it and yet you ARE NOT? I'm guessing there was perhaps a deeper purpose to it, so that you couldn't just walk off the ledge and grab on to it for the sake of edgehogging, but I dunno, some characters could do that anyway, and if that was ever a problem they didn't care for Brawl, so I'm guessing Sakurai didn't care about that from the beginning.

2. I think you are assuming people want that based on them saying the want a game like Melee.
3. I think what people mean by "they want a game like Melee" is one that is deep yet simple, has offense/defense balance to where good offense that beats good defense most of the time, has the same frame rates for a lot of stuff like (universal) shielding/hitstun out of grabs/edge grabbing/teching/, and functions as a competitive game that doesn't bore the crap out of the people playing it to where most of them quit due to the game not being very competitively entertaining.

It's Japan, so it's probably a 9 to 9 job, and for Sakurai, it is probably 9 to 11. Sakurai does like playing his games though.

Nobody says it should be exactly like Melee.

To be perfectly honest with you, I played Melee for the first time in several years after playing Brawl a lot and I went from "Competitive players need to hush a bit with their throat shoviness and stuff" to "I can totally see where they're coming from now."

I don't know why I assumed you were talking about Smash64 just because we're on Smashboards.

Oh, I've heard some people riff on Project M for not being the exact same as Melee and the people who are already insisting that SSB4 will suck because of it. Granted, it's not a huge percentage of the overall fanbase but still enough to get under my skin.

Those people are gross and you should stay away from them.

I'd much prefer a Brawl-Melee lovechild tbh, which is the vibe I'm getting from Sm4sh.

Well, brother recently gave me the Majora's Mask soundtrack he downloaded so I might pass on the CD. The posters look really epic though.

1. Project M stands for Project Melee, and some people want it to be exactly like Melee. I can sort of understand that, although Project M is more about following the ways of Melee in the spirit of how great the game was. If people want an exact copy of Melee in Brawl with Brawl's roster, they can make it themselves! :bee:
2. I'm hyped for Project 64 for Brawl, if such a thing ever gets off the ground! :laugh:
3. Project 64, M, and B for Smash WiiU and 3DS will be hype! :chuckle:

5. People think Sakurai "lost his edge" with Brawl. Realistically, I blame the Wii's limitations, Iwata's poor leadership, Sakurai not taking control enough of his franchise (like he is now), and above all else, Game Arts (for being a poor developer) for this. I don't think any of those will be an issue any more.
6. There are always people who think all sequels ANYTHING will suck. Heck, there exists people who think The Avengers (movie) sucks... somehow.

What do you think the odds are that Nintendo's going to reveal anything noteworthy at Comic-Con this year? They seem dead set on seeing the Wii U rebound so maybe they'll throw a curve ball at the event for a change.
Does Nintendo even go to Comic-Con=??? Speaking of which, I don't get why Comic-Con isn't just for comic/manga/visual novel-related media. :ohwell:

In fact, that kinda irks me. I get things from non-paper/digital picture/word-based media inspired that being there or that have media in that form, but everything else makes no sense. Seriously, like when gaming companies not related to any sort of that media is there, I always think "why should we care about you?"

I think Brawl was a GREAT game. Though it wasn't my first Smash game (I had the n64 one and still do. I also had melee, but that's destroyed) I enjoyed it thoroughly and it was the first Smash game I considered getting competitive at.


Though I remember myself going "...this... is... so... slow..." after playing Brawl directly after playing P:M for several hours a couple days ago. Just makes me more stoked for Sm4sh.

I agree Comic Con has become over-saturated with people who have no business there.
Stop at the comic book movies, the Star Wars stuff (since Star Wars does have comics and book and stuff), and all that jazz. I get people cosplaying as Nintendo characters or there being Nintendo stuff for sale, but honestly, that is not the crowd for Nintendo. They ought to either form their own convention or go to more gaming-related conventions.

Nintendo has produced some comics related to Starfox and Metriod, but i am not sure how recent they were released.
But I would agree, I would much rather have a Nintendo Direct around this time.
But Nintendo is desperate for exposure and will take advantage of any events available to get people aware of the Wii U.

I remember when I first saw Smash 64.

It was on a tiny tv in a game store. Game stores, at least in my area, where REALLY small back then and apparently low budget since they had a small, outdated tv showing all the game adds.

I was super hyped though, it was like the most awesome thing I had seen

EDIT: i first saw Smash 64 in my local Mr. Movies. The idea of Mario fighting Pikachu was awesome to me.
