By the way, guys, I suggest using the #FREEMELEE hashtag on Facebook and/or Twitter. I'm now actually thankful for hashtags.
I'm using #FreeMelee #MeleeStream4EVO #EVO2k #EVO #EVO2013 #Melee @ (whatever Nintendo of America is) @ (Nintendo) #SmashBrothers #SmashBros #Livestream and so on.

It's A BIT of a long read though.
What, are you illiterate?

That could be one weapon to be used on your favor, after all...

You only have the right to use the law to your favor if you understand exactly what the laws mean. It's nothing but reading comprehension.

Wow.

Just...

I'm done. You don't get it. At all. You really need a lesson in what "intellectual property" entails.

Smooth Criminal
Actually, intellectual property includes all images, music, and other content associated with the game. Technically Nintendo has a perfectly legal right to stop any and all streams they so desire. Doesn't mean it isn't a crappy move, but it is within their right as the developer and publisher of the game. Bill is right on this one.

That's one thing that makes me think this decision won't change.

People aren't willing to sit down for five minutes and read the laws so they can know what they are up against.

Laziness is the worst thing ever.

You know what I don't get? Why did Nintendo wait until a few days before EVO to pull the plug on the stream? They could've done this all months ago when the drive started. This was when Hasbro pulled the plug on Fighting is Magic due to the Breast Cancer Donation Drive.

Did Nintendo know nothing about this? Just how in touch are they with their consumers?

You know that's not my point, Star. It's an asinine law that's only invoked when it's most convenient. It's utter bull****.

They probably have one of those cliche tinted windows overlooking their place of business where some evil Nintendo rep with exaggerated hair and sunglasses went "Okay, they're close to doing it. Stop them."

This is a plot of a really bad cartoon.

Ironic how it's probably worse for them now that they've done it, though.

It's like Sega with that Streets of Rage remake....

So to offer a nice change of pace from the current topic, can I just say that this is the greatest interpretation of the Disney Brooms I've ever heard or seen? XD

Just gotta keep things civil and hopefully things will work out. There's still a few days before EVO so there's still time to maybe convince NOA to change their minds and if not, there's time to keep cool and think things through for the future.

Honestly I just want to hear their decision on why they're against live streaming (not sure how much money EVO makes, but I would have thought it'd be less of an issue in-comparison to Youtube), considering they probably could have gained more if they had supported competitive Smash instead of fighting it, I'm not going to dwell on whether or not NOA wants to cut themselves or not.

I think Smash will be fine in the eyes of the FGC so long as it draws a crowd and hype. If Melee (or 64/Brawl for that matter) doesn't come to EVO next year then oh well, at least it will have went out with a bang as well as having helped a LOT of needy people. I am by no means a Melee fan (if anything I'm still upset that Brawl didn't win) but I'm **** proud to have seen how far the community made it and will be waiting with anticipation to see highlight reels, for APEX 2014, and for Smash 4's release.

On a total different subject: Fire Emblem Sacred Stones is quite underrrated.

Guys, watch this livestream on subject of high ranking smash/competitive peoples.

It's not legal in every country to do that, you know.

Also, this is exactly how Brawl got kicked off MLG guys. We gotta fight back, and social media (#FreeMelee is going strong), the gaming media, and really the competitive gaming community is behind us!!!
Even if it doesn't change, we'll be able to watch videos of all the matches after it is over on YouTube, right?
Until Nintendo takes that away from us.

Wave, don't be that guy. The only thing worse than bad topics are the people that jump in and try to change things. It usually never works, gets overlooked and only serves to annoy people. Just let it wade itself out, or, be like Bill, and ditch this thread. Not like there has been fantastically enlightening discussion lately anyways.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought of Fighting is Magic. The similarities between the situations are really quite uncanny. And if FiM's situation is anything to go by...prepare for a major flood of hate toward Nintendo for the next week and a half at least...

I have a few theories on this:
1. Nintendo of America possibly wants breast cancer to spread.
2. Nintendo of America wants to feel important after doing nothing forever.
3. Nintendo of America in Seattle absorbed Microsoft (which is also in that area) or at least the now fired Xbox One people.
4. Nintendo of America doesn't want EVO matches recorded (Nintendo of America is threatening to ban recordings of it).
5. Nintendo of America is now owned by Microsoft, and is turning on us.
6. Nintendo of America is all about the non-gamers now.

Or it's called NoJ doesn't want their property being streamed for tournaments where money is involved.

You mean the ones like all tournaments, including the one that Injustice is being paid by the developer and publisher to stream in which millions of people watch=???

Or the streams they ignored (sans Brawl at MLG, which really hurt the Brawl community in a way it never fully recovered from) for years and year and years=???

I can't wait to hear your point of view once this reaches youtube videos! :)

Also, Nintendo of Japan so far is not involved with this BTW. ;)

It's called: ADD
Guess ADD explains some of your behavior, but still shouldn't be an excuse to not try to read a text. Just saying.

Also, it ain't my law either.
Well, if EVO is hosted on the United States, that's the law that matters. Also, it's Nintendo of America that is being dealt with, which is located in the USA and thus, subjected to the US laws.

And people will figure out what to do about it soon enough. I'll just follow them then. SIMPLE.
Guess we're polar opposites on that regard. I prefer to think my own solutions instead of being dependent on other people.

Anyway, I have already stated all I think about this matter, so I'll be off for the day.

I didn't say it had to make sense. Every indication is that this is a legal decision and not simply the whim of an executive. Yes, Nintendo of Japan has every thing to do with this as well.
I was told by a former PR person for Nintendo that they viewed YouTube as a giant pirate site, and wanted everything related to Nintendo pulled off of it. Not only did they think this was a good idea, but that this was actually possible, too. So that's the mindset we're dealing with here.

They just don't seem to get this whole internet thing. It's like they are more interested in the tiny amount of revenue people may be generating off of their content than the millions' worth of free advertising their users generate for them.

And I do think that's what it comes down to for them, like with the Let's Play thing. They see a quantifiable amount of money being made off of their products compared to an unquantifiable marketing benefit.

I don't think it takes much thinking to realize that millions of positive impressions of your game is worth more than the pennies of YouTube revenue, but this is old-world thinking we're dealing with here.

Guys, on here, Prog, the Melee commentator, is on the phone with a Nintendo rep. She said she didn't get why they were doing it, and she sounds like she's heard of it before.

It doesn't make any sense, and it hurts the fans.

Also, pretty sure those laws don't apply in more free countries like say NZ, South Korea (where such a law was struck down) and the UK.

After all of this, I'm sure Reggie's body won't be ready for the breast cancer! :)

Damn straight, and Nintendo of America deserves it, and I'm not gonna stop 'til I drop.

Dude. Too far. Wishing cancer on someone is never funny.

Did I say I wish cancer on him=???

No, I didn't.

I hope he and everyone else (sans like mass murderers and rapists) get cancer ever.

I'm just saying his body wouldn't be ready for it... until we get a response.

He best hope karma doesn't exist. I don't think it does, but if it does, DAYUUMMMMM!!!!!
