And quite frankly, what's top stop Nintendo from banning Smash WiiU and 3DS videos on youtube, Smash WiiU and 3DS livestreams, and pretty much even this site=??? On top of that, I'm pretty sure this is illegal; they don't have the authority to do that; and if they do, it doesn't cover several nations.
I want to say that consumer rights protects streaming, but I would assume that it does not cover paid streams which is understandable. Basically, we should have the right to do what we want with the product within reason (meaning not ripping movies to the Internet). Streaming, in no way shape or form, does not interfere with the sales of games. If anything, it probably increases them.

Guys, while you have every right to be upset, turning on each other isn't going to solve anything.
The only guy I'm going off on is some random person I don't know. I ain't turning on anybody.
You want it to change, do something about it and go to twitter, facebook, etc.
I've already done that sevenfold, and I will do it a thousandfold.
Regardless of what side you are on. CALM THE FUQ DOWN! This is ridiculous. This isn't going to be fixed by panicking and insulting each other. It's gonna take a calm mind and clear judgement.
I'm calm enough to make rational decisions, mad enough to not buy anything from Nintendo from now on, and passionate enough to NOT GIVE UP!!!
I'm gonna look into competitive Mario Party or something.
If we don't beat this, your Mario Party livestreams won't be around too long monkey boy.

Whining and overreacting won't achieve anything. Insults and other such childish behavior won't lead you anywhere and prove to be nothing but a waste of time.

All you can do is to contact with Nintendo of America, but keep it civil. The worst that can happen is that streams still won't be allowed and if that's the case, there's nothing you can do about it.

That's all I can say about this... and it's nothing but the truth.
Indeed. I'm personally just contacting them.
I'm not making silly promises to boycott their products.

There's so many people contacting them at once that the latter is insignificant regardless.

Also, Game Trailer, Joystik, IGN, and 2 or 3 other big name gaming industry media outlets already got this story, and are rolling this.
Johnathan Holmes on Destructoid gave us this little gem:
Nintendo would be wise to do the same in this instance, lest Microsoft swoop in and offer Evo an exclusive pre-release build of Killer Instinct to stream at the tournament.

Playing with items should be fun. Right? Right...???
It is.

It's what the game was actually designed to be played like.

It's Nintendo's preferred method.

Doesn't make the competitive scene any less important though. Because there should always be multiple ways to play a game for however people want to play it. They're not taking that away. You can still play with your items off. There's nothing Nintendo can do to stop that.

Claiming otherwise is just well overreacting.

Apparently. Also, Nintendo is trying to be what Microsoft was until they reversed their dumb DRM policies on the Xbox One.

Also, Game Trailer, Joystik, IGN, and 2 or 3 other big name gaming industry media outlets already got this story, and are rolling this.
Which is why I'm thinking more and more that Nintendo will retract this decision. This is going to roll up fast like a dung beetle's lunch.

Pretty sure streaming is how EVO makes a lot of its money, so yeah, this IS a big deal.
They probably put way more into these tournaments then what they get out of it.

I wish I had that article that showed that other countries are actually more free than us. We are free, but in a totally different context.

It is.

It's what the game was actually designed to be played like.

It's Nintendo's preferred method.
Yet Sakurai has also made the series to be where you can play however you want.

That quote was amazing; and thankfully, the mainstream gaming media exists! They're here to back us gamers, and with them on our side, Nintendo will do one of two things: FOLD TO US, OR FAIL US!!!

Exactly.

And unless Nintendo says ''make it so you can't turn this, this, and this off."

Then they can't take that away and I really doubt they'd go there.

That is true. What they are saying is that nobody can watch the game live, and I'm pretty sure they were also saying that they didn't want EVO making money off their game(since streams are how EVO makes money). I guess they aren't interested in getting the 2.2 million+ viewers who watch EVO to be interested in their series.

I'm not keeping up, I'M SPEEEDING UP!!!! I AM THE RIDLEY SMASH WORLD CHAMP AFTER ALL!!!! :samus:
Give it time and think about it again.
After how underwhelming every mainstream Wii title was (sans Metroid Prime 3), how awful Nintendo's policies are getting, and how anti-gamers Nintendo has been (at least Nintendo of America), I did think about it, I am calm, and I gave it time, and this is my conclusion.

Honestly, I somewhat foresaw this coming; I had joked about this beforehand. I had it all mapped out that if Nintendo goes the Xbox One route, that's my plan of action. And you know what=??? I'm sticking to it, because I'm one tasty bad apple! :shades:

Instead of wasting your time whining on this thread why not actually go ahead and spend your time contacting them? Even if you have already done it dozens of times. Reporting back here isn't helping anyone.
I think this is a good time to start talking about how stupid feminism is. :troll:

Just because they allow you to turn something off and on in a game does not mean that it changes the default and designed method off play.

You can turn off huds and other such things in plenty of games but when the game is literally set to have those on. It's the default.

That's not me saying ''Oh **** the competitive scene." That's just stating the truth.

Sorry, JustABill, but I think you're missing the point here. We should be able to broadcast stuff like this without any interference. Do you realize that this could eventually extend to the casual streams of "Nintendo's preferred method?" Just think about that for a minute. Take away all the bells, whistles, and whatnot that's being put behind the Melee at EVO hype. Look at it for what it is. It's the principle of the matter.

I'm going to go ahead and drop this now. I'm sorry for being so caustic towards anyone here.

Let's find something less stupid to argue about. Items are personal preference.

I have several of them, and "the land of free, and the home of the brave" ranks anywhere from 6th to in the 30's in terms of freedom, and our bravery is very much lacking. How is sending young boys and girls to wars for oil brave or defending freedom=??? You got billions of gallons under your feet idiots. Send the morons' and their kids who started those wars over there, not your own sons and daughters.

Well... at least this is a less stupid thing to argue about than items being toggled on or off.

I was thinking more of how shinpichu says that EVO makes their money from ads. This is more than likely true (I haven't seen anything explicitly saying yes to this), but can you make the argument that streaming Melee in itself is getting advertising on a stream WITHOUT having to pay a dime for a time slot?

Well, like I said, Nintendo will fold to us or fail us. If they fold to us, maybe they will gradually take a few steps back from this, and say "hey, we really should remain loyal to our loyal customers." But if they fail us, this is probably the beginning of the end of Nintendo's friendliness to its' fans the way we once knew it, and it is probably the beginning of them turning on us much like Capcom has.
They probably put way more into these tournaments then what they get out of it.
EVO=??? I bet it makes good money. But yeah, EVO is like free revenue for Smash, too. People will see it, go out and buy the game, get a Wii or GameCube, grab a couple of buds, and try to copy these tournament players. I cannot tell you how many smashers I have met at tournaments that saw competitive smash, and went out and bought a console, a smash game, and a controller or two in order to play smash competitively.

I'm not missing the point.

Streaming a game is streaming intellectual property illegally.

Nintendo can stop that all they want.

Does it suck that money was made for Breast Cancer. Yes it does.

But it's still their property at the end of the day and if they don't want it viewed they can do it.

It's like putting a movie up on the internet really even if you bought the DVD or paid for the movie ticket to see it.

Sure with a fighting game it's different because spoilers aren't much and it's 12 years, but Melee is steal Nintendo's property.

And if they want to stop people viewing it. They can. They're not really doing anything wrong here.

But I'm dropping it. Lord knows I've been called some hurtful words for just stating an opinion.

Wow.

Just...

I'm done. You don't get it. At all. You really need a lesson in what "intellectual property" entails.

No, you got called "hurtful words" because you straight up said you were talking down to us you nobody. You have no right to TALK DOWN TO THE GREATEST OF ALL-TIME, ALWAYS IN PRIME TIME, SWINING WITH THE RHYMES, IT'S JOHNKNIGHT1, THE RIDLEY CHAMP, YA MIND=???

Trying to sue your fans, your loyal customers, and people who have spent well over a thousand dollars in stuff from your company for doing something that is 100% legal and is legally protected in most civilized countries is freaking stupid, especially coming from the redheaded step child department of the company (NoA).

And wait for Sony, Microsoft, and third party companies to do this. Then, in an age of multimedia, it will really tick you off, and those companies will lose all kinds of money and free advertisement in order to protect their self-righteousness.
Well... at least this is a less stupid thing to argue about than items being toggled on or off.
I never argued about an items on/off switch, and I never will.

We might as well pull the plug on this forum, avatars with Smash, fanart, fan videos, etc. while we're at it since they're ALL illegal under copyright law.

Nintendo wants our women to die of breast cancer. And even if they don't die, they won't have boobs anymore anyway. I view this as a rather serious problem myself.

I know what you meant, but I wanted to establish that I never ever debate the item on/off switch after the crap that went down with that pre-Brawl. It's actually a pretty funny story, although the debates were very enraging back then; even more enraging than this (I'm actually very calm, and in a total zen state).
We might as well pull the plug on this forum, avatars with Smash, fanart, fan videos, etc. while we're at it since they're ALL illegal under copyright law.
This random nobody saying this stupid stuff and I will now get sued by Capcom for having Capcom character avatars.

NRS and WB are actually PAYING EVO to stream Injustice. Nintendo should feel fortunate Melee is/was getting streamed for free. That's how many eyes this EVO thing brings to competitive games, which is proof that EVO livestreaming of games leads to sales and money for developers and publishers!!!

Oh, and over 2 1/2 million people watched EVO 2 years ago, and all signs point that even more watched it last year!!!

Well if whoever did this retroactive move gets cancer, they'll get no sympathy from us. Not that I'm wishing that on anybody, because I won't. I once had a false (brain) cancer positive, and it scared the living heck out of me.

It is just they're the ones who prevent us from likely entering a future event like this with EVO to raise money for Breast Cancer cures, which in turn hurts Breast Cancer funds, which in turn hurts all parties involved; nobody wins by this.

My mother actually almost died from breast cancer about 10 years ago, my grandmother had it (it went all the way to stage 2, but stopped there, thank goodness), and it killed my great grandmother (whom I was close to upon her death when I was 6), so it is something that is pretty close to me...
