Maybe the artist of that magazine thought that the main character in Legend of Zelda was Zelda, and since Zelda is a female name, the main character must be female...

I came across this awful list, and it made me angwyyyy.

Two of the original SSB64 cast is on this list, like, what.
The writer of that article needs to have his Nintendo fan club membership taken away

Wow, just wow. That's horrible. Most of the cast that they listed I'd be fine with staying. Sonic could use improvement, but he's cool to stay, IMO. Snake, I like his presence, I think it works having him there. Everyone else? They're fine too. The fact that they thought to pull Jigglypuff is valid, since she was there just because the Japanese wanted her there, but she's been there since the beginning. Just tweak her moveset. Ness (and by extension Lucas) just need to not have stupid infinites against them, and they'd be decent. Everyone else? They're fine. I don't think that any character SHOULD be removed, but it's going to happen. *shrug* Oh well. I don't have any preference who should be "Removed" but I don't think that list is good.

I seriously just hate when people support the idea of dropping characters in general, just to make space for more modern characters that has more premise in the gaming industry nowadays. People just seem to forget about the fact that Super Smash Bros is meant to celebrate Nintendo's lifespan of their historic installments. So removing someone to make space for someone like Zoroark is an idea that makes my tumors want to burn to ashes. What has he done for Nintendo? While Professor Layton is an interesting choice, he does not deserve to take priority over any veteran. The fact that both Ness and Lucas are on that list made me really angry, Mother is such an amazing trilogy that's been dying out. Yet kept alive through Smash Bros. Same for Ice Climbers, Game & Watch. That's what Smash Bros does, it keeps forgotten icons alive. But dumbtards like Thomas (the guy who wrote that article) doesn't realise that. And sadly, does not a lot of other people as well.

I agree Niko. Smash Bros is a tribute to all of the series. Even third party. Nothing is wrong with leaving characters in.

I don't want to live on this world anymore. Seriously, I'm not 100% against cuts at all, but there aren't even 5 characters who "need" to be cut. And cutting BOTH Mother reps? WTF.
Edit: I just noticed that those idiots still believe that stupid rumor that the roster size isn't going to change. Ugh, this "article" keeps getting worse and worse.

Because Thomas East is an idiot. Look at the list he made for who he wants to be the newcomers.
http://www.officialnintendomagazine...aracters-who-need-to-join-the-roster/?page=11

The list has 3 freaking Mario reps, and he chose Boo instead of someone like Waluigi, Daisy or Rosalina.
And of course, can't be a "wish list" without Shadow the Hedgehog slapped on it.
That's the list of characters who only got 1 vote. The most wanted isn't nearly as insulting as the most wanted cuts, but still, two Zelda characters. And Skull Kid? Really, we're still doing this?

You mean "bots won that silly unofficial poll"?

That article is abhorrent, and would be abhorrent even if the cut choices were reasonable, due to it perpetuating that goddamned awful falsification that the roster will not be expanded. Beyond that, it's so disgusting to see people demanding the removal of the likes of Ness, Olimar and Ice Climbers for the sole reason that they're too goddamned awful at the game to use their recoveries and dual character playstyle, respectively. I did get a kick out of the jackass who said Sonic should be cut for Ghirahim, though...riiiiight.

I expect absolutely nothing from tomorrow's conference, which would carry on Nintendo's ongoing traditions of showing off nothing but NSMB and third party games when they have the opportunity to 'wow' viewers with something better. That said, I would welcome any new Smash information, any at all, with open arms, even if it was something so vague, it sent the community into a tizzy with obnoxious speculation.

Couldn't have said it better.
Those articles are awful. Cutting characters should not be a consideration, unless in a "what if?" scenario. I understand it can be there, but 10 characters is preposterous!! I can see some people saying those 10 will go now. That boggles my mind because they are important veterans who shouldn't be leaving. ..10... my gosh.

This will be airing at 3am EST. There will also be one for NoA and NoE. The NoA airs at 10am EST and I'm almost positive Europe's is the same time.
To update on this, Japan is also running a second Nintendo Direct at the same time as NoA. This second one will showcase the some first/third party software in Wii-U's line up. Smash please!

1) I really hope that ONM doesn't print that article in their next issue. Any of their subscribers with half a brain would drop them. Why is it that ONM's circus of a staff gets to keep writing garbage like that, while Nintendo Power and Nintendo Gamer Magazine are being shut down? Seriously, Future Publishing owns all three. And they're keeping the worst possible one in publication (judging by the caliber of what I just read).

2) I am so hype for the Wii U stuff tomorrow. I don't even care if there's no new Smash stuff, I just wanna find out when I can get my hands on a Wii U. And Pikmin 3.

Oh sweet Jesus, Pikmin 3.

Doesn't Nintendo have new a policy of not showing anything at trade shows/presentations unless it's slated to be released in a 12 month period?

Goodness, I don't know. It sounds bullheaded and stubborn, which is Nintendo. That's not a bad thing, but sometimes it makes them look silly.

Gametrailers dude (forget his name, but it's a silly name) says that a previously unannounced first party title will be shown tomorrow or something.

Maybe I'm dumb, but they need to have a shocker tomorrow to generate a bit more hype about the Wii U considering how quiet they've been thus far. Just one surprise.

Even to this day we don't know what the WiiU can actually do (as far as I'm aware). Nintendo has definitely kept a lot of things regarding the WiiU to itself.

As far as power goes, lots of leaks and things of the like say it's decently more powerful than 360/PS3. Still, Sony and Microsoft will throw so much power behind the PS4 and next Xbox, developers might see them as the more profitable platforms to develop for and leave the Wii U behind. Which is a bummer.

But to the assimilated gamer, being a graphics snob isn't cool. So I'm pretty sure that the Wii U isn't going to be mind-blowingly powerful, but I don't care because it's going to bring me a lot of great game experiences.

Plus, from what I hear it's going to be very difficult to tell the difference in terms of graphics between the current gen of HD consoles and the next gen.

That sounds like an exaggeration to me. That being said, I think the biggest jumps are going to be in things like lighting and how much can be generated on a screen at any given time. Then, there will be more subtle details such as more hair and grass details, higher quality animations and textures, and improved water which seems to be a very hard thing to do.

Still seems like a very small difference to me. What I guess I meant was we won't be seeing a difference in graphics like we did between the last gen and this one. If that makes sense.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. Of course, finer details can make all the difference sometimes, just like the difference between having a + or a - in code.

Of course, I don't think the jump was ever as big as the one from the 64-PS1 era to the 128-bit era or the 8-bit to the 16-bit era.

With the ISOs said to be able to hold up to 25 GB, you'd hope that Nintendo would use a good portion of the ISO's storage capacity. However, as one may have noticed with the Wii titles, some of them don't even come close to using 1 GB on a 4.37 GB ISO.

Not every game needs to use the full disc. Though with a better online, maybe Nintendo will relaize that it's better to release their smaller games as downloads rather than retail.

Edit: Remember, trying to make use of all the avaliable storage capacity was what got us all thoose wonderful Full Motion Video games in the early 90s.

Also, a lot of the Wii games that only took up 1 GB were, as I recall, ports/remakes of Gamecube games.

Like I said, it's a complex environment.

Average, non-core consumers buy A) What's economically sensible and B) What they've been made to believe is superior.

When Sony and Microsoft enter the new generation alongside Wii U, you can bet that they'll shove as much power into their machines as possible to yank 3rd party support out from under Nintendo, all while selling at a slight loss and sinking their gaming divisions into a little more debt.

But in terms of power, I don't see the gap between Wii U and the PS4/Xbox 720 anywhere near as big as the gap between Wii and PS3/Xbox 360.

All I can hope is that third parties can be convinced that Wii U versions of their future big titles are profitable.

But who am I kidding, I'm on board for the Wii U because of Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon, and the like. Those will be present, and they will be awesome.

Also OH MY THE WORLDWIDE WII U BUSINESS STARTS IN A FEW MINUTES.

It's odd that the colors are exclusive to each package, but I don't care, because I wanted black, and the Deluxe is allllll minnnne.

Also, if anyone *honestly* thought Wii U would cost any less than $300, then they're just silly. I mean, just unbelievably silly.

So. Silly.

Is the black only available in 32 gb?
Yes, only the Deluxe Set (called Premium Pack here in Europe) with 32 GB storage will contain a black Wii U console.

Also everyone on Kotaku are BAWWW-ing over the price and the GB storage the Deluxe Set has to offer... it's entertaining to watch. xD

Edit: Reggie was a downer during the conference, poor little guy

My only problem with the Deluxe set is that you're only getting 32 gigs. I wanna say I got my 360 Elite for roughly the same price with 120 gigs.

And what's this about a Bayonetta 2?!

Was personally hoping that the $250-$300-$350 pricing rumor was true. This isn't too expensive, and within a year or two the price will probably be cut. As for storage space, I personally think 32 GB is just fine. I have a 2 Gig SD card for my Wii, and it current;y isn't even half filled up with official games. Of course, that might change with the Wii U since the downloadable games will probably be bigger.
