I think everyone should use the phrase "Ridley is TOO BIG of a character to not be in Smash!" for these upcoming weeks.

I said that last week on the Ridley thread BRO!!! Let's make it OUR THING!!!

The thing about Bayonetta 2 is that its not the first time Nintendo has funded and published a new installment for a third party series. At the very least Nintendo did it with Ogre Battle 64 and Baten Kaitos Origins. Nintendo does not own the rights to any of those series. Nintendo funding and publishing Ogre Battle 64 (Nintendo published it in Japan at least) was probably due to the fact that the Nintendo 64 was almost completely barren in terms of RPGs.

Wasn't Eternal Darkness and MGS: The Twins Snakes also published by Nintendo=??? BTW, those are two really underrated GameCube games.

Nintendo did not fund that game nor publish it in Japan. I am talking about third-party franchises in which Nintendo both published and funded the games.

This. I just don't understand why Eternal Darkness wasn't seen in Brawl's Chronicle. Was it because they couldn't risk advertising a game that was much worse than Metal Gear in terms of subject matter?

From what I know, Silicon Knights retained the rights to the franchise as they've talked about making a sequel a lot (but they've never done it).

Perhaps there is some clause in Nintendo's contract with them that they get exclusive rights to the franchise if Silicon Knights goes under.

These could very well be the last two weeks for which we actually have to speculate about whether Ridley will be in Smash Bros. Each day has been a crawl despite having been very busy. Keep in mind this is basically another half month of waiting.

I wish E3 was earlier in the year than it is nowadays. Keep in mind E3 used to come during the first or second week of May (the last year for this was 2006 ironically).

I also am very anxious to see what possible curveballs Sakurai is going to throw at us.

However, assuming we get Ridley and Mega Man in the Smash 4. What other big hype characters will there be for Smash 4? I mean there are basically no other third-party characters left for everyone to jump on board to support that have a realistic shot at getting in.

I think Sakurai has something big planned for us in E3 that basically no one has seen coming. I don't think any "shock" third-party characters could ever hope to make the same reaction as Snake did in E3 because we all now know third-party characters are fair game now.

Sakurai likes to get people talking, and I think Smash 4's unveil will have something in it that certainly does just that, whether it be a certain character or some sort of new gameplay feature/aspect.

Kuma can get credit for the kill like how Vegeta got credit for killing Recoome and Burter (even though Goku beat them in actual combat), however.

I think Sakurai is mostly going to stick with what new things he's going to add, and the new, bold direction he plans to take the franchise. That could mean anything form new online stuff, new gameplay modes, new techniques, new gameplay changes, or things as simple as changes in the floatiness, gravity, and vastness of the game.

I also think we're gonna get a huge focus on the major graphical and processing improvements, especially the former.

And if anything, I expect very few newcomers, and more veterans. I mean in the first Brawl we got 5 veterans revealed (although people doubted Samus, lol!), and then 1 in the next trailer. Something tells me Sakurai doesn't want to wait that long to confirm all the veterans we already know and love. However, he might "hold back" on what changes he plans on bringing to them.

Lastly, for Ridley specifically, him being revealed early wouldn't shock me, but I think he'd be best served/hyped as a newcomer revealed somewhat later, around the time King Dedede was revealed in Brawl (about 2-4 months before release).

I actually think the best newcomer to show first that isn't a 3rd party character would be K. Rool. He just seems to cover all the necessary demographics IMO.

He's got the cartoony fun-ness of Wario, the villainy of King Dedede, and just a great raw and physical presence like Bowser. On top of that, he's a totally unique character from a classic franchise on the rise.

I think people would really positively latch onto King K. Rool because of all of those things plus the fact he's from such a classic franchise.

The best 3rd party choice for an initial reveal, however, is Mega Man IMO. This for all the right reasons (he's been wanted forever and he's perfect for smash) and wrong reasons (Capcom essentially killed him and we want him back in something).[COLLAPSE="Edit: When Oasis dies, this song plays for me..."]

If you're looking for an existing IP Nintendo funded and published, but doesn't have the IP rights to, you don't have to look much past Lego City Undercover...

Eternal Darkness was in the Chronicle, Nintendo still holds the rights to it.

Regarding to the situation regarding to project Nintendo has funded and published but doesn't own, there's the upcoming Sonic Lost World which is getting published by Nintendo in PAL areas and Australia. A surprising amount of Tecmo Taoi games were also kind of like that, like Samurai Warriors 3 and Ninja Gaiden III: Razor's Edge.

Also several Tales games like Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Symphonia were also published by Nintendo outside of Japan (though obviously for the versions on Nintendo consoles). Also for giggles, Mischief Makers and Illusion of Gaia were published by Nintendo outside of Japan.

Oh gosh, that makes me sound really manly, all handy with tools and mechanisms and such. I don't think I've built anything in my life outside of legos and blanket/furniture/pillow fortresses. If we don't find any of those materials, we might be out of luck. And as long as it isn't poor singing, I'll listen to what you have to say. I'm not as mean as you are saying!
