after the change to xenforo or whatever you call it (CIRCA JANUARY 2013), every group had been wiped clean of all data except for the fact they exist and the members within the now barren groups. and Toise lost his list of roster predictions from the lot of us for that whom ever was the closest with the final roster would win a Wii U, purchased by him...

ever since this fateful day, groups stopped being a thing... after that, i figured out how to access groups... i didn't know if the data from groups would return... it's been a whole year and none of the original data returned, regardless, i wanted it back so i started to pick up the pieces. restart what we had.
i believe it is the only relevant social group now... there's that LGBT group with over 150 users but i don't even know what goes on in there so that's moot...

anyways, i believe, groups will stop altogether... none of the hype is there anymore save for our group as far as i know. the memory it takes to keep them is probably greater than the reasoning for why they are now pandering people to turn off adblock. no, that's the reason why they need to tell people to turn off adblock, so groups can be supported!

Alphazealot... don't take away our porn social groups. it makes me feel strong to be in a community within a community... to be... in a resistance group... against the zealots! fringe!

If all fails, there's always Skype and Facebook. I think most of us will prefer Skype though.

Social groups cause a lot of problems:

• Keeps content from new users
• Creates division within the site (e.g. cool kids club) based on [insert random criteria]
• Moderation is difficult
• And it just didn't work with Xenforo and was a pain to get to work (this being the biggest)

I'm thinking maybe only allowing PR social groups though. Maybe.

Other than the tier backroom fourm or whatever it's called (users that have access have a Grimer icon) , I think the others are groups.

Why must new users need access to whatever the users create for a select group of people? There's nothing that would be in those groups that they couldn't get outside of them aside from what the members are saying to one another, so it is not like their existence steals anything that a member is signing up for. If someone signed up thinking, "I deserve to see whatever the other users do regardless of their targeted recipient!" would be one entitled individual, wouldn't you think? Might as well let them see our Private Messages too, they don't have access to those either.

Secondly, cannot people make their OWN groups? They can have their OWN cool kids club with their own random criteria, isn't that the beauty of having groups? Besides, it doesn't prevent members of a group from posting outside of it, no actual divisions are made on the forums. And if someone posts solely in a group, so what? No one is suffering because of their harmless M.O.

As for the Xenforo thing, well that really sucks to hear (read). But if that can be figured out, the positives from groups seriously outweigh your examples. I definitely don't agree that because someone new walks into the door means that social gatherings aren't allowed to take place. That new user can still talk to those people, join their gathering, or make their own, just like in rl. And just like in rl, they can't waltz in and criticize a group of people for... being a group of people.
