For live action I recommend Banshee and Vikings which are okay (especially the first, which has a great cast of over-the-top characters and by far the best action scenes in television these days, look at this gold for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqRPaucl8r4)
I don't have the channel for Banshee, but I've heard good things of it. I'll look into Justified, seems like it would be cool. And unlike the other series, it doesn't look like it has a crap-ton of episodes. I only remember hearing about it recently. As far as anime goes, the last ones I watched were Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Dragon Ball Z Kai, and sometimes Naruto Shippuden on and off. Cowboy Bebop is definitely one of my personal favorites though.
I liked One Piece, you probably don't feel the same way or it would have already been on your list. Haha. It is ONE PIECE of anime I tolerate.
Justified has 52 episodes to date and Season 5 starts like next week. Season 6 should be the last. It is technically an action series but it's extremely writing-driven. It's very witty and has amazing dialogues delivered by some of the best television actors around. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for but you won't be disappointed. Oh, Season 1 starts kinda slow because has mostly filler episodes for the first part, but it's all to build the characters.

I'm fine with character building episodes. Better than made up BS filler. That's the worst kind of filler to ever exist.

First off define "action". I can think of a couple of new TV shows you could watch, but not sure if you would consider them "action" or not. Same goes for possible anime you may not have watched. I really need to know what you consider to be action.
