Kind of ironic this was mentioned, as I was just watching a video history of earthbound that mentioned that fan project

On Mother 4, I must note that Itoi is actually interested in playing a fan game or so I heard.

Perhaps if Nintendo manages to sponsor the game (kind of like Capcom did with MMvsSF), we may have content from those fan games on Smash? I mean, who knows?

I'm not aware of any fan games that have contents in Smash. I don't think Nintendo allows content unless they're official.

I understand people want to create the games that they won't have coming, but can't they use their favorite series/universes as an inspiration to create their own world instead of unofficially shoehorning their perception of what the continuation of a franchise should be?

I actually agree with you to a point.

When I was younger I worked on fan projects until I realized I wouldn't be able to do anything with them, so I switched over all focus to my own work.

Not to mention it annoyed me when on Deviantart, all the "OC's" were just fan characters from series they didn't fit the image of.

I do agree with the fact they should make their own universe, and companies need to protect there ascets, but they need to do it right away. Not wait like square did and what nintendo might do.

Excellent question. It's probably because they have stuff to work with instead of having to come up with new stuff.

There's nothing wrong with creative development and different interpretations, as long as it's done with clear direction and consideration of the source material, whether it's official or not

Seriously, the Dojo was among my most pleasant memories for pre-Brawl.

I will be honest the day Samurai Goroh popped up on the Dojo (it was the day in which Assist Trophies were confirmed) at first I thought it was a character confirmation, but then I noticed the item icon in the corner for the update and I was like "what".

I did a double-take when Ike was confirmed. It was so exciting to finally have a newcomer confirmed in over a year's time.

The interesting thing about the time from Ike's confirmation to the date of Brawl's Japanese release, is that it was practically a six month period.

I am hoping we get the Dojo up earlier this time even if it means more "duh" or "stupid" updates. I am looking forward to seeing to even old time veterans being confirmed.

However, its important to note that Sakurai wrote all the updates himself. So him doing updates for two games this time may be too much to ask of him.

Even still, I really hope we get the Dojo much earlier this time. How great it would be if we had the Dojo start after the Smash 4 unveil, and then get weekday updates until the release? I don't care if we get more filler, at we would get a ton of screenshots and discussion out of it.

One thing to point out: The junk updates was due to the game getting pushed back a month.

I think a site will opem soon after E3. The game has been in development from over a year and I'd be surprised if it came out any later than Q4 2014. I think Q4 2013 is possible. Sakurai has a bigger team of more capable people. Brawl took around 2 years so I'd expect the same here. We're already a year in and it may not take that long.

One thing I'm curious about is that, for Brawl, they showed off a good amount early on and the rest didn't come until the end of development. If Smash 4 is farther alone than Brawl was at its reveal, how many characters are we going to see?

Yeah same I started off making up stories based off of existing franchises (fan-fictions really), but then i began to make my own characters. It's more rewarding and takes more creativity. And i can vouche for that lame @ss character knock-offs on DeviantArt.
