I'm hoping this too (that he is hinting at later confirmation for a playable Ridley, and not a Ridley stage hazard).

My heart is jumping. Its pretty much do or die for Ridley right now in regards to Smash 4.

I can really hate Sakurai sometimes. This will pretty much make the anti-Ridley people much more obnoxious up until the Ridley unveil (which could be more than a year away).

Also, what's this about the "Challenger Approaching" showing up on the site today and then being taken down?
I feel the same way....

Who knows though. Gamescon is this week...

The Challenger Approaching thing was taken off originally, most likely due to the fact that Luigi's reveal was a long time ago. It appeared back on the site for some odd reason then went away and came back again.

I'm thinking it was just a glitch as it always lead to Luigi.

I know this means nothing, but the Challenger Approaching just came back.

I can't sleep now, dammit Sakurai...

Alright people, calm down. I'm sure Sakurai wouldn't troll us like that, I'm sure he knows how requested he is, and size obviously wouldn't be an issue for him. Don't forget about Olimar, guys.

I admit, it's a possibility he's a hazard, but a small one. Just keep your fingers crossed.

I don't think Sakurai would tease Ridley fans like this for him just to be a stage hazard.

One thing I can't shake is that if Ridley is a stage hazard, why would Sakurai build up all this hype and then kick all the Ridley fans in the balls showing him as a stage hazard. I can't understand why he'd do that when he's shown that he really cares about his fans.

Right, that's another reason why I doubt Ridley is a hazard.

Sakurai isn't like that.

But, if by a small chance, he IS a stage hazard, I have the perfect reaction ready for it.

I hate to sound pessimistic but the way Sakurai talks about the description for that pic of the day, it seems like he is talking about a stage hazard. Ridley is obviously the character that most comes to mind about this area of Other M.

However, Sakurai is also the master of troll is betraying people's expectations (ie. "up until now" with Ness). I think its likely we are going to have a confirmation about Ridley either being a playable character or a stage hazard no later than the first of October.

There is no major Nintendo release for September, so perhaps Sakurai goes with a newcomer this time?

Regardless, I think if Ridley is a stage hazard, I expect Sakurai to confirm him as such within the next two weeks, possibly even later this week.

Definitely feeling very uneasy about this.

Okay. And challenger approaching is back for me.

Damn it I have had a rough few days and I have to work tomorrow. I need to sleep Sakurai. Don't do this to me.

I'm actually more excited about the prospect of a new trailer (Assuming Ridley is added) then the actual confirmation of Ridley himself. It'd be a good for Nintendo to grab some of the Gamescom hype from under Sony and M$'s feet.

I honestly can't imagine him being a stage hazard on the same exact stage twice. He's been a boss, hazard, at least make him an AT.

Or playable. Playable is good.

The good news for me is that if Ridley is de-confirmed, I will have no more reason to follow this game. The bad news is that I will feel like any idiot for have spent so much of my time following it.

Oh well.

I just want Sakurai to spit it out, instead of simply being a :troll:

If a new trailer reveals Ridley, Bowser Jr., and Plusle and Minun, that day would be the greatest day of my life.

Ridley is still gonna have me SOOOOOOO hyped if he gets revealed as playable.

Thing is Sakurai has never been "mean spirited" in his trolling. If Ridley was a stage hazard this would be mean spirited.

Didn't Gamescom start press releases earlier this morning?
No.

It's starts on the 21st.

It's not mean spirited though.

Where did you get that idea?

It all makes sense now.
Nintendo's most wanted newcomer revealed at Gamescom to steal the show from Sony and Micro$hits feet. Genius.

Last I heard, press releases were on the 20th while the even was open to the public on the 21st.
Got a source?

Because that could be amazing if true...

He should, since Nintendo Power told him how popular he is in the west in a post Brawl interview.
They never told him he was popular, they just asked about a rumor...

OK, that's a bit calming then. I want to use my reaction to him being revealed as playable so badly, but not nearly as much as I want him to be playable.

Never mind, the only press releases are for EA and for Sony, which are LATER today.

Someone please shoop Ridley at Gamescom stealing the XB1/PS4 controllers in the baby Metroid's capsule.

That's true too, Sakurai wouldn't do that.

He does know how requested Ridley is right?
Re-reading Sakurai's statement about the latest pic makes me very pessimistic:

"Pic of the day. Out of the blue, here's a new stage--the Pyrosphere from Metroid: Other M! An enemy from Samus's past may appear at any second…"

The only notable enemy from Samus's past that could suddenly appear on the stage is Ridley. Notice the language of "any second". He is really referring to the stage, and about some entity making any appearance on it.

The only other interpretation for this is that there is going to be a recent confirmation for Ridley. However, I strongly doubt that Sakurai will do anything special for Gamescom especially considering Nintendo as a whole has never done anything special for it ever.

I think this update could very much be Sakurai possibly preparing the Western fanbase that Ridley is again not going to be playable this time, that way everyone is not suddenly angry and surprised when he does show up as simply a stage hazard.

Urgh, you do have a point there....

It's got me scared though. Like I've said before, fingers crossed. That's all we can do right now.

I agree entirely, not too hopeful about Ridley with that line...

Also a lame ass Other M stage? W/e Sakurai, where's my Skytown Elysia?

Welp, I guess I know what we'll be talking about the rest of the week on here. :p

As for this stage, Sakurai could've picked it specifically to help represent a newcomer (ala Halberd). However I wouldn't call the hole in the wall (or the caption) a good sign. :nervous:

At least there's a semi-decent chance of finding out relatively soon.

The only thing that's lame about that stage is that it's causeing a lot of concern for Ridley's inclusion as a playable character.

It may be lame in your opinion, but I think it looks epic.

The way I see it, we have three possibilities.

1. Ridley confirmation soon.
2. Ridley is a stage hazard.
3. Sakurai is simply commenting on the stage's importance to the series and nothing more.

I have no idea which option is the likely one...

You're really depressing me there Chrono...

That hole isn't the one Ridley escaped through.

Even then, I don't think he could fit in there. It's oddly shaped...

Before I saw the actual caption I thought the caption would be something like "Look out Samus, it's Ridley!...just kidding!" similar to the Cragalance pic.

I've been thinking.

I think if Ridley really is a stage hazard then he'll be shown soon.

If he's not shown soon then.... I don't really know.
