Well, I am betting that Pacman is in and Impa is out (even though she was never in to begin with).

PacMan was never in either. :)

I'd totally money match your PacMan with my Impa if both would get in though.

Hey, if you guys could probably tell, I am new to the competitive scene of Smash (although I've been playing casually for years), and I was wondering: "How low is the lowest tier for *playable* characters in competitive Smash? / Does it really matter?"
MK-Iceclimbers-Snake-Diddy-Olimar-Falco-Marth are all top tier characters. Other characters that will also do in the competitive scene are ZSS, Pikachu, Wario, and Lucario. Although, you can win with any character. Take Isai as an example, winning international tournaments with low tier characters. The key to success in the competitive scene is practice and experience, mentality comes in second. Good luck.

If you wanna be a Low Tier Warrior: go hard. Harder than you can. Learn EVERY disadvantage of your character, and optimalise it's strenghts as good as you can. Also: match up experience. Learn them.

I just wonder how the 3DS competitive scene will be - or if there will even be one.
I won't be a pessimist and state that there will be no 3DS Smash competitive scene, but realistically speaking, it won't be half as big as the Wii U Smash competitive scene.

My entire purpose in life for smash will be ensuring the 3DS scene thrives. it has TONS of advantages for competition actually, Swiss tournaments, easier to set up events, no worrying about having enough set ups, and MUCH more. It may not be what people consider the "most competitivve version", but it WILL have competition. Too much convenience not to.

Things such as: No need for a new controller (Wii U), easier to play, everyone who plays HAS one. I will be practicing until the day comes - Smash 4's release! Thank you, I can feel HYPENESS radiating from my body! Some may say, "it is ready."
I'll be 16 1/2 then. :)

EXCELLENT!

But seriously, everyone who says 3DS scene wont thrive send em my way. I'm already working on how to build up the scene over a year in advance! Just be ready to play and you'll have a good place to be!

Isai won because Smash 64 is a heck of a lot more balanced than Brawl is... that and he is so much better than everyone else (not named Superboomfan). I mean, unlike Brawl, every character had tons of offensive tools in Smash 64, and like half of the roster were (semi) Mario clones!!!

(before anyone challenges me on that, consider this: Captain Falcon in Smash 64 has like 8 of the same moves as Mario, whereas Lucas is called a clone for only having 4 moves with the same animations as Ness, half of which are [essentially] different moves, and all of which function in completely different ways.

Meanwhile I just played against level 9 CPUs for the hell of it. I beat Meta Knight with Bowser and Jiggs but got pretty much owned by R.O.B (with jiggs) and lost to Falcon too (with Bowser).
And mind you Mr. Game and Watch will always be my best character but I've been trying to play Bowser more recently :p

You don't wanna play 9s, it causes bad habits. 4s are best if you can't use humans.

Eh you're probably right but I don't really have plans to get competitive with brawl anytime soon so I might as well have fun with those ****ers :/

Exactly this!

Falcon and Samus can easily be considered semi-clones, especially their aerial movements are extremely similar.
Same for Kirby and Jigglypuff.
Mario and Luigi are obvious. Yet Ness also shares a lot of similarities.
Also: everyone has a sex kick.

I think the most original characters in Smash 64 are probably DK and Yoshi. :dk64: :yoshi64: Maybe Link as well, as his sword attacks mostly provide for different aerials than most. :link64:

This is also exactly the reason I don't mind semi-clones as Lucas, Falco and Wolf at all. I like them, and they are good additions for both Mother and StarFox characters. However: the series are quite 'finished' now. Much like Kirby is.

Without getting into the ugly "Whether Brawl is a good competitive game or not" argument. I think it's possible to win any game with any character, the only reason (imo) that most top players go for top tier characters instead of mid/low tier characters is because they're afraid of risking their chances of winning. If a person with a good mentality trained with a low tier character daily and knew every single MU to its very core, then I think he/she would have a chance in winning any tournament. It's just that people are afraid of risks.

On top of that, Wolf, Falco, and Lucas have much better movesets than newcomers like Pit, ROB, and the Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon in Brawl, and they feel more "fun" because of that (IMO).

That is honestly true, and also the reason why at times we've had tournaments out of nowhere with fantastic results. (Salem anybody?)

Speaking of practicing, what game should I practice with? Melee or Brawl?

Oh god... That's difficult. I'd recommend Melee without ATs. They said that the next game with have a speed in between Melee and Brawl, so that may be the option?

Or learn both and hope for the best XD It's kinda what I'm doing at the moment. If anything, use both to learn the type of character you use best, then you'll have a good feel for find your main in sm4sh

Both are very different. Don't compare them too much...

Brawl is slower, steadier, campier play.
Melee is faster, more technical, and more offensive play.

Very true. learning fundamentals in both is not a bad idea either way. Then you'll at least have a strong basis to work with in sm4sh.

Alright, thanks. Since the next smash will be a blend (and we really don't know what to look forward to besides what we theorize / know already), I'll just hop back and forth. The only real difference is that:

1. Brawl is the only one that has tripping
2. Brawl's roster is bigger

Yeah, it really is difficult. Again, learning your fundamentals and getting them down, and know what characters you like will help in general at least.

I'll most likely play a new comer (If Lil'mac gets in... *eye flash*) but I guess getting used to each character to know what it's like on the in side couldn't hurt. Thanks for the help.

1, Wii U only. While I do feel like I'm missing out on some quality games, a handheld system just doesn't fit in with my lifestyle... I mean, not when I have already have a smartphone.

Personally I'll either do 1 or 3 but most likely one. I have both a 3DS and a Wii U, so frankly since I have the choice between the two without the prices of the consoles in mind I would much rather play the more powerful version on my TV then forcing myself to play on my small 3DS screen even though I would hardly have any friends to play it with.
