1. Pichu.
2. No, I think people over-exaggerate the fact that he hurts himself.
3. Emotional connection at a young age.
4. See 2 and 3. I also really just like Pichu.
5. I switched to Mewtwo for a bit, but switched back, so I never really stopped.

as in, the usually unlockable Luigi.

Thoughts? Is he not unlockable this time? Will there be a NEW Mario character who is? Is he unlockable and he was just revealed?

He's not an unlockable in all likelihood. They're probably gonna make all of the original 12 starters (well, maybe sans Jigglypuff; remember, Captain Falcon and Ness were starters in Melee), and largely abandon unlockable characters starting from this game on, especially for veterans that everyone and their mothers know will be playable.

Out of the Melee newcomers I could easily see Marth and Ganondorf getting this, and maybe Mewtwo as well as a "promotion" of Mewtwo returning and whatnot.

Of course, if one game is released after the other, the game with the later release date likely won't have hidden characters at all.

I sure it's the last one. It's supposed to be for the Year of Luigi, and everyone with a brain knows that Luigi's coming back anyway.

I think Sakurai mentioned on Miiverse that Luigi being revealed was an exception, due to this year being all about him.

I wouldn't mind seeing other unlockables. I would actually like seeing unlockable newcomers.

Unless he's said something since the reveal, I don't think it was an "exception" as much as he said it was atypical compared to previous games, which still leaves Luigi's status up in the air (while being an exception would seemingly confirm he's still a hidden character - which he probably is again anyway).

1. Roy
2. Overall, yeah he's not great, but with the people I play against by and large he's good enough.
3. I originally was better with him than Marth
4. Still have more fun with Roy, even though now I'm better with Marth
5. Even though he's my main, I still use plenty of other characters, so I switch things up regardless of what character I'm playing as.
6. Probably not, I've never been exclusive to Roy anyway

He did say something, this was his comments when Luigi was revealed:

"But why not? This is the "Year of Luigi," after all."
That statement came off to me as if they are making an exception for Luigi, despite him being an unlockable, since it is his year.

Because unlocking Jigglypuff hasn't felt like an achievement since Smash 64, Marth would be better served as a starter character, and because quite frankly the idea of hidden characters is just an outdated model IMO.

Save it for the 3rd party characters, a few random newcomers, and anywhere near questionable on returning veterans (no, Falco doesn't count morons on GameFAQs).

Plus I've predicted this would happen for Smash 4 because the Brawl roster was pretty popular and almost all (if not all; hopefully all, maybe sans ROB if his crappy moveset can't be fixed [although they could fix Pit, so why not?]) of those characters will return, and I'm sticking to my guns.

Or maybe it was an exception to him being a hidden character. We don't know. Sakurai is an expert at being ambiguous and having multiple meanings possibly be true.

Aye, I'd be making Luigi unlockable to follow with tradition.

Also I believe if Sonic returns, he'll be a default character, while Mega Man (and Snake if he comes back) will be unlockable.

I just hope none of the characters have to be unlocked by playing Adventure Mode with all the characters. It's not challenging whatsoever, it's purely time consuming.

And Ness, Jiggly, Luigi, and Falcon were all unlockables in SSBB.

Have we ever had a franchise with multiple characters completely unlocked from the begining? I guess we have. Kirby and DK in Brawl.

Well the whole Ness has been playable "up until now" seemed pretty clear Ness wasn't playable, and look how that turned out.

That is why I don't take Sakurai's words so literally, but rather, I look at various broad answers as to what he could actually mean.

And you know what=??? I'm beginning to think only (all of) the newcomers (all of which should be confirmed beforehand) and the 3rd party characters should be unlockable.

I agree. Honestly, as far as Brawl newcomers, the ones I feel will be moved to unlockable status are Lucas (so Ness can be a starter), Ike (so Marth can be a starter) and Metaknight (so that the entire series isn't a starter series). Possibly Diddy, too, if they wanted to promote K. Rool more.

Im not too familiar with Sakurai saying that. Is it on the Dojo??? But wasn't Lucas planned to replace Ness? So i guess that statement was true at some point.

While I agree that taking Sakurai's statments literally can get messy (especially when his statements are translated). Watching the Direct and reading the miiverse statement, the Luigi reveal just appeared to be a special case for the Year of Luigi.

I wouldn't want everyone unlocked from the get-go.
I doubt they would remove their iconic 'new challenger approaching' element

just before you fight a unlockable.
Especially for people who are trying to to do a media black out on the game and want to be surprised on the newcomers, having that mystery silhouette just before you fight the character adds to the games hype and excitement
