Im not too familiar with Sakurai saying that. Is it on the Dojo??? But wasn't Lucas planned to replace Ness? So i guess that statement was true at some point.

While I agree that taking Sakurai's statments literally can get messy (especially when his statements are translated). Watching the Direct and reading the miiverse statement, the Luigi reveal just appeared to be a special case for the Year of Luigi.

I wouldn't want everyone unlocked from the get-go.

Eh, to sum up my thoughts.

-Sakurai stated on the Melee Dojo he planned to have EarthBound 64's main character (Lucas) replace Ness. Then, he basically flat out said that was the case in Brawl (in most people's opinion), and then, BAM! Ness accidentally confirmed, and then BAM! Ness is in Brawl's opening.

-The Luigi case, again, could be for The Year of Luigi... or it could be that this is a "special case" where previously hidden characters aren't hidden... or it could be something else entirely.

-I just think hidden characters is kinda dumb as it is now. The newcomers, the 3rd party characters, and the least likely to return veterans should be hidden characters, not obvious characters that will 100% return like Jigglypuff, Luigi, Mr. Game & Watch, the Ice Climbers, and Marth.

I mean really, who the hell feels a sense of accomplishment for unlocking Luigi for the 4th and 5th game in a row, or who honestly feels shocked=??? Congratulations, you have repeated yourself almost as much as Dynasty Warrior repeats itself. Way to be sooooo original Sakurai!!!

Normally I don't really mind the Pikachu knock-offs, but something about Dedenne just strikes me as even less creative than the previous ones. I don't know if it's the more-similar-than-usual colour scheme, including those damn cheeks, or that the body really reminds me of old fat Pikachu, but at least this one's Fairy, because otherwise the blatant similarities would just be getting too shameless imo.

Plusle and Minun are awesome.

I think they may be the most viable newcomers to the Pokemon franchise in Smash, personally. (at least the most viable that aren't multiple starters in one character)

Well, it is Pokemon. I uses it's tail to plug into outlets, and apparently it uses it's antenna on it's cheeks to communicate with Pokes that are far away.

P&M are probably the most closely related to Pikachu's evolutions, they could practically be a subspecies of Pichu, that can't evolve.

Pachirisu is adorable, and Emolga was the most creative in my opinion. The only problem I have with Dedenne is it's color, otherwise I think it was a creative continuation of the rodent-like electric Pokemon.

Team characters IMO in smash are dumb, unless they either need each other (the Ice Climbers), or bring out the best in each other (like Plusle and Minun would). Character concepts like Diddy and Dixie teaming or Dixie and Kiddie teaming takes away from each characters' originality, and actually hinders them.

Speaking of which, why does no one ever suggest a three character team of those 3 grass/fire/water type Pokémon that all look alike=??? I think those 3 as a team as tag team up characters is strangely under the radar, whether the pre-evolutions or final evolutions.

I never liked the idea of Diddy and Dixie as a tag team, nor did I ever understand why someone would think it's a good idea. The Ice Climbers and Plusle and Minun are the only characters I can think of that could properly carry that concept out and do a good job of it.

I'd be pretty surprised if we didn't get MegaZoroark tbh. Seems they're going for the less-cute, more popular among the demo that like "tougher-looking" Pokemon, in which Zoroark has maybe not as much popularity as like Lucario or Mewtwo or something, but definitely as much as like... Ampharos. Plus GF still likes to use Zoroark in occasional promotion, so chances are probably pretty decent.

Well after reading that new interview with Sakurai, Sakurai's staff may have voted against the exclusion/removal of Ness

Well his statements never say that he is or isn't unlockable, it just says they never used to reveal Luigi before the game's release.
But the reason why I pretty sure its the first one is because of "But why not" Which is a phrase one would use after a statement to make an exception.

Well your saying that under the assumption that everyone who will pick up and play through SSB4 has played the other versions of smash.

Yeah since it is Pokemon it is pretty hard to tell what it is without some sort of Pokedex description
It could very well be a hamster, it could be gerbil, or even a guinea pig.

I do like the clever Pokeability it has Cheek Pouch was it? Very fitting for this little fluff.

Honestly, the original 12 may all be Starters this time. But Sakurai's post does suggest Luigi might not change his status on that at all. His only reason for revealing early that is implied is because it's Year of the Luigi, not that he's a starter. At least by his own words. Keep in mind I don't mind either way.

Yeah, Dixie and Diddy teaming takes away from their uniqueness, while the Ice Climbers, them teaming is all that is unique about them. As for Plusle and Minun, them being a tag team and acting differently (ie: one having an up smash that kills, the other, one that does a lot of hitstun) would be something unique, and the two together make each other go from fairly unique to very unique.

As for the triple team, eh, it's just an idea. I mean, we already have a three way tag in/tag out team via the Pokémon Trainer, and honestly, it is an idea that is extremely overlooked and yet remains very possible, especially since we have no real new Pokémon in Gen V or Gen VI (so far) that looks absolutely destined to be playable in smash.

If Plusle and Minun did get into Smash with one of them providing hitstun while the other has the K.O power, each palette swap they get should have two versions, one that has Plusle in the front, (aka human player when you choose them) and the other has Minun in the front, allowing for a good amount of strategies for players who prefer one playstyle over the other.
