I don't get the need for wired controllers. I have a Pro Controller that I just hook up to a Wiimote, and it does wonders. I mean, I get it for tournament play, but that's about it, really.
It is just a convenience thing, and there is a noticeable difference. Besides, Sony and Microsoft do it, and it doesn't take away from anything for the gamers, so why shouldn't Nintendo=???
And Mario Kart didn't sell like crazy because of motion controls OR online multiplayer. It sold like crazy for the simple reason that it's Mario Kart.
If that was the case, how come all other Mario games haven't sold WAY OVER THIRTY FREAKING MILLION COPIES=???

If Mario Kart Wii was never bundled with the Wii, that would make it the best-selling non-bundled game of all-time (sans maybe Pokémon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow... if you count all four of those versions as one single game).

Aw crap, I'll have to face Meta Knight after this match in the ZU Brawl tournament.

On Smash, I really hope we get Toon Link in September, because that'd be an awesome late birthday present.

@John
You know? That's a good question. A lot of games would benefit from a LAN option. Mario Kart comes to mind as one particular example.
Mario Kart 8 with LAN for like 16 to 32 players tops would be sooooo hype.

BTW, if you have never played a game via LAN with like 8 or more people, you are missing out. I used to go to Halo 1-3 LAN parties, and they were so hype. Even if you hate shooters you would love it, especially with all the epic cross-screen "trash talking." The fact that no one could screen look in teams as well was pretty good!

Speaking of which, this supports my theory that LAN for Smash 3DS (which is how you'll play the multiplayer; that or online) and Smash Wii U (if that's a thing) could lead to us having 6 player games locally... WHICH WOULD BE AMAZING (if the processing can keep up).

Yes, online multiplayer would be the difference from turning Pikmin 3 to just a "nice" game to a game you have to check out, which is why Pikmin as a franchise has yet to not even come close to being a "must buy" franchise like a multitude of other Nintendo franchises are.

Oh, and trust me, I know my RTS', and the online multiplayer determines a lot. Just look at Company of Heroes, Total War, Warcraft, or Starcraft if you want to see what online multiplayer can do for an RTS.

And the difference with Gran Turismo is it is a game on a console with a lot of quality online games with great online. Mario Kart Wii was like the one big title on the Wii with quality online. There is a huge difference right there.
The thing is, Pikmin is an adventure/RTS hybrid, but what matters most about Pikmin is the (single-player) adventure. Those games are entirely different and don't have nearly as much of a focus on single-player, which is why they're far more dependent on online multiplayer. Bingo Battle in Pikmin isn't nearly as large as the multiplayer in those games, therefore adding online to Pikmin 3 wouldn't affect it nearly as much at all, much less make it a "must buy".

It really doesn't even make much sense to bring up WoW or Starcraft when talking about Pikmin.

Yea, but Mario Kart Wii is the only Mario Kart Wii. It really didn't have any competitors in the kart racing field, with its Wii branding and hip new motion controls.

LAN doesn't count. I don't expect to have friends come over my house with a game console and same copies of the games I own. That's nothing like having just a local multiplayer feature.
LAN does count as local multiplayer, because that is how it works on PC's, which are the best gaming devices. And you can just give them your copy of your game and let them use it. Heck, my brother and I just played a game via LAN doing that JUST THIS WEEK, and it worked JUST FINE!!!
"MGS... eh. It has never had local multiplayer. Besides, that is just one franchise."... No, many franchises are guilty of this. Plus, Pikmin has never had online. What makes it more excusable for MGS Peace Walker (A game with a MUCH larger focus on multiplayer) to not have local multiplayer?
The difference is that department of Konami (Kojima studios) doesn't make a lot of multiplayer games, whereas Nintendo EAD does. Plus, Nintendo EAD is way bigger on top of that.
GTA doesnt even offer local multiplayer for TWO people, much less four. I'd love to play GTA local multiplayer.
There is too much going on for it to work, I'm telling you, unless it is like a 4 player local multiplayer where all 4 players are on the same screen. Processors on the 360 and PS3 can't handle a game of GTA V's depth with 4 players doing different things at once.

This doesn't apply to GTA IV or V on LAN, which would definitely work, although there isn't big enough of a LAN user base for Rockstar to want to make it.
L4D? Wait? You're saying I should just buy it for another system?
That's the equivalent of me telling you to just not play Nintendo games if you don't like them for not having online
Online games in general are better on the PC. And besides, the PC version is better, because PC obviously has the best online, it has non-dedicated servers, oh, and modding. On top of that ,Valve's specialty has been and forever will be aimed at PC games.
I'm not letting Nintendo get away for not having online. The fact is, everyone's letting everyone else get away for not having local multiplayer.
The fact is LAN is local play, and there's no two ways about it... unless you don't have two PC's good enough to run a game.

Ah, Toon Link. I still have faith in you, baby! Although, I wouldn't mind another younger Link instead... I'd just really love one with a milk drink taunt. I mean, that's why I love Young Link, kid knows how to chug. ;)

Hey, my birthday is also coming in September.

...Hang on.

People born in September are likely labeled as a Virgo.

Virgo is associated with virgins.

There is a Greek god name Athena who's a virgin.

Kid Icarus has a character based on Athena called Palutena.

Palutena confirmed during September.

They gave Toon Link the milk chug in Project M over the randomly starring in different directions taunt.

My statement wasn't directed at Konami, and yes, Nintendo is way bigger on top of that, which is what I'm saying.

LAN is nothing like having local multiplayer. I really don't think you even understand the purpose of local multiplayer.

Here, let me try and explain to you.
In the real world, most people don't invite their friends over with their expensive computers, containing particular videogames that they all just so happen to all own.

Actual scenario: Friends are over, one of them just so happens to want to play a videogame. Oh, look, Super Smash Bros with 4-player local multiplayer, how convenient! We can play a videogame now.

Did they each bring their own Nintendo 64, television, and copy of Super Smash Bros over? No, they don't even own an N64 or Super Smash Bros. Even if they did, they probably wouldn't do that, because that's incredibly inconvenient and impractical.

Still, adventure games of that sort now frequently have online multiplayer these days. In fact, everything these days has online. Heck, if adventure games on an iOS can have online versus multiplayer game modes, why can't Pikmin 3=???

I said Warcraft, not World of Warcraft. :urg:

I'm not saying that didn't sell million of copies. I'm just saying the online sold millions of copies on its own (because all other major Wii titles have turrible online).

The mall in my area has a pokecenter stand in it

They have stuffed animals that are replaced with different pokemon every once in a while, like every week or something

I rarely go to the mall because it's like a half hour drive or something

But today I went, and of all the pokemon they could have...THEY HAD SQUIRTLE!!!

The only thing that would have been better is if they had Blastoise...and I'm not sure if they have fully evolved pokemon or not.

You're bringing iOS games into this? Really?

Sorry, misunderstanding, even as Warcraft, my statement still stands though.

True, just like the Conduit.

I'm not even going to quote you, because you are literally just spouting nonsense from a nonexistent perspective.

You are saying bringing over computers and consoles is "too hard." Grow up. We're all adults or teenagers (or both here), not very young children.

And heck, as a child, I used to lug around my giant 5 pound GameBoy (which probably weighed more than my laptop does now) everywhere with all of my Pokémon games, my collection of batteries, and my link cable. Many of my peers did the same. It isn't that hard, unless you have no muscles in your body.

And LAN IS local gaming, hence why it stands for LOCAL AREA NETWORK!!! Arguing otherwise is simply just not being right.

And you arguing this is funny, because in order to play Smash 3DS' multiplayer, YOU MUST USE LAN TO PLAY IT LOCALLY!!! Does that mean that Smash 3DS is not "local multiplayer=???" Does that mean that Pokémon on any handheld console between two or more friends is not "local multiplayer"=??? Because if you say no, you are literally going against the basis of the definition of "local multiplayer," which makes you wrong.

Oh, and your "jugging around expensive computers" argument is null and void, because smart phones are literally thousand dollar investments and computers, which thus makes them EXPENSIVE COMPUTERS!!!

If you grew up in the age where kids played Pokémon on 5 pound Game Boys heavier than today's laptops with a lanky cord and a dozen batteries, you know it is that hard, unless you are the epitome of lazy Americans. (btw, it is so much easier today with direct LAN connections with Pokémon, which is why that is the new standard.)

And lastly, there is this thing called "planning" and "being prepared" when doing this. Unless you are a stupid young child, you should know how to do that.

Yeah, well that is veterans. I was talking about newcomers. We're bound to get tons of veterans revealed, because we have only 11 confirmed out of 44 (45 counting Toon Link), all but at most (probably) 6 of which will be playable. Why not just reveal the (obvious) veterans first=???
If you're talking about newcomers, I really expect only one newcomer revealed this year (Mewtwo)

This is where one of those new fancy mods might get us on a better topic...

But since they aren't here, let us abuse this thread for a while. :troll:

Well, then. I guess I'm the epitome of a lazy American because I socialize with people who do not own expensive gaming computers and don't extensively play videogames.
I guess I'm not grown up because I live in a world where most people don't plan social gatherings around playing a videogame.
Get a reality check.

Yea, I understand what "LAN" means, thanks. I'm saying that it's not the equivalent of having the simple feature that allows you to play a videogame on the same console.
And your 3DS argument is actually really funny, because I don't get to play Mario Kart 7 nearly as much as I get to play home-console Mario Kart games, and it won't be very different with SSB.

I am literally the opposite of perverse.

Although, to be fair, I do care about my appearance... and my smell (neutral)... but only to appease myself, not others.

I do this not just because I AM NOT JUST A BOSS, BUT I AM THEE BOSS!!! :shades:
Why not we talk about items and how they should totally be allowed in tournaments.
Items are allowed to be used at Smash events that happen to be tournaments, just not in the actual tournaments (except in rare occasions).

Why not we talk about items and how they should totally be allowed in tournaments.
Reasons why items aren't allowed:
-They are random.
-They can induce spawning point camping and stalling.
-Several items are broken and favor the person with the item far too greatly.
-Some items have infinite combos.
-Several characters have ridiculous combos and kills with many items.
-Literally anything with a wall can be home to infinite combos.
-Nearly every melee item in Brawl is broken beyond belief.
-The Ice Climbers are beyond broke in both Melee and Brawl with items, and there have been several infinite combos discovered for them, and there is likely many more that we don't know about yet.
What happened to this thread.
Someone argued with me that LAN isn't "local multiplayer" despite it having "local" in its' name, all because they believe requiring two systems (and maybe two copies of games) is "too difficult," not realizing that is what is needed to play Smash 3DS "locally."

It's still plenty of equipment. The console and game may not be so hard to do most of the time. There's the issue of another TV/monitor.

Hey, at least running a tournament for Smash 3DS seems more feasible than Smash Wii U at the moment, especially give the Wii U's lack of wired controllers due to Nintendo's shortsightedness.

But hey, at least the only thing shorter than Nintendo's shortsightedness is the Wii U's sales! :awesome:

Unless you count Mewtwo's new form, Mewtwo wouldn't really be considered as a newcomer, he was absent in Brawl, I'd personally call a character like that a comeback.
