We should get people behind Rayman then, he'd fit right in at least.
Rayman has never been as popular as Sonic or Mega Man, so he would probably never be able to reach their heights in terms of requests. If I had to say for another third-party character that has the potential to reach what those two character did, I would say Bomberman, and to a lesser extent Crono.

However, in the case of Bomberman, Hudson is no more, and Konami has neglected Hudson's IPs ever since they buried that company.

Because Bomberman is more popular than Rayman? We all know which Man is the best (Mega), but in all likelyhood, Pac-Man has the highest chance.

Man, you guys make me feel like I have the greatest patience ever. I just go about my days knowing Pikmin 3 is coming and waiting, not much to distract me.
Bit miffed that it's coming out on a sunday though, have to wake up early on my day off to go get it. At least I'll be able to play it right away though. :chuckle:

Its interesting that there has not been a new third-party character for people to rally behind now that Mega Man has been confirmed. Sonic and Mega Man were pretty much the only two guys to come to most Smash Bros. fans minds after Snake was confirmed for Brawl, and now Nintendo fans seem mostly content about guests.
That's because Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog seem like very obvious choices in the context of Super Smash Bros. While it's true both are not Nintendo properties, it's pretty obvious if you're familiar with them that both characters have their influences with Nintendo to some extent. Sonic the Hedgehog being pretty much Mario's #1 rival from a meta standpoint, and after the demise of the Dreamcast the Sonic franchise gained a strong following on Nintendo consoles with a lot of exclusives made over the years like Sonic Colors and Sonic Lost World, even making crossovers with the Mario series via the Olympic games. Mega Man games mostly appears on Nintendo consoles (some spin-offs were even made specifically for Nintendo consoles), and even gets influenced in varies media relating to Nintendo.

Of course, the reason why Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man were more wanted then other choices is because of the popularity. Both of those series are really popular among a lot of people, and even after some rather bad bumps, both are still going strong.

I think that whatever requests Pac-Man has now, comes mostly from the fact that Namco is developing this game, otherwise there would be very little interest in him. However, even then, there is less interest in Pac-Man than many other Nintendo characters.
Well, you did say "mostly"... I am one of the few fans who actually wanted Pac-Man before it was announced that Namco is helping Sakurai develop SSB4. :)

Speaking of third party characters... Simon Belmont should be in Smash as well... he may be a Konami character but I personally consider him a Nintendo all-star (like Mega Man) because most of the Castlevania games that are on the Nintendo consoles tend to feature Simon a playable character... and Simon is the most recurring protagonist in the franchise... also Simon was chosen to represent the Castlevania series in Dream Mix TV: World Fighters.

If Simon is playable in Smash, I think his animations would be based on the NES sprites... just like Mega Man's animations are based on the NES sprites. NES Simon was playable in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (GBA) and Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (PS3 and Xbox)... he probably won't fight by punching and kicking like most Smash characters... just like how Mega Man fights by shooting, Simon would fight by whipping... and Simon could whip in all eight directions in Super Castlevania IV (SNES)... which are suitable for aerial moves... the whip in addition to the classic sub-weapons give Simon an interesting moveset and unique playstyle.

I'll have to check my nearby gamestop and a few other stores.
I'll have to catch a ride to town, but there are two Gamestops really close to each other so I shouldn't have to worry about not being able to find the game. Plus I've never seen a game get sold out around here either, so it's not really a concern for me. Can't wait to try the series out for the first time, looks amazing!

YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED ANY PIKMIN GAMES BEFORE?!?!?!

You've been missing out, it's really fun. (but hard as heck, and only slightly easier to master)

It sucks for me. Pikmin 3 was a super HUGE if not THE #1 reason I got a Wii U in the first place. The problem is I'm starting my family vacation on launch day and I'm leaving before GameStop opens and won't be back until Saturday (and I have the game fully paid off too).

damnit.

Ouch, very bad luck...

What do you mean by fully paid off? Have you pre-ordered or payed for it already and just need to pick it up?

I'm trying it out due to Olimar being in Brawl, I'd like to give every series represented (by a character) a shot, speaking of which, I should get Awakening...

I'd buy Pikmin 3 but I still have a pile of games to beat before I can get to it. Hopefully I'll have decently whittled it down by Christmas... but then New Super Mario 3D World, Pokemon X and Y, DKC: Tropical Freeze, and a Link Between Worlds will be out... *sigh* I'll probably get around to it next summer...

I fully paid off my preorder and I won't have any time to pick up the game before I leave for vacation.
Well you should still be able to pick it up after vacation. As long as you can, at least you'll be albe to play it next week.

Pikmin 3 was also the main reason I got the Wii U.

Smash introduced me into a lot of series, I think it's done that for a lot of fans.

Well, both Pikmin 1 & 2 have gotten ported into Wii games, making it easy to find (and cheap too, Pikmin 1 being $30 new while Pikmin 2 being $20 new.) And since you can play Wii games on the Wii U, you can play the trilogy on one system (4 games if you include Nintendo Land's Pikmin Adventure).

There is also the option for the GameCube versions but if you want the GameCube version of Pikmin 2, they're really rare and people online are asking BIG bucks for that game.

Oh, whoops, forgot to wish Sakurai a happy birthday last night.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY I HOPE YOU GET LOTS OF NEW GAMES THAT YOU WON'T HAVE ANY TIME TO PLAY FOR MANY LONG MONTHS.

I'd rather just get the newest one than get the two older ones. I don't collect games so much as the actual consoles. I still don't have a GameCube yet either.

I'm a little late on this, but I think she'd be neat, not like I would care any less if she wasn't in.

Also, I kind of see her as a genderswap of the robotic guy from Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.
So she's the Lady of Games he was talking about. I don't see her as the type to make games with unicorns and exploding ninjas though. :troll:

I would like to join the plethora of posts and say Happy Birthday, Masahiro Sakurai! Out of all game designers, you have the fondest connection to me thorugh the Kirby series and SSB. KI:U was really good too. No matter how many times this community gets into scuffles, it's all because of you. ;)

On the topic of Pac-Man, I love how I'm the only one who uses the argument that Pac-Man AND Mega Man were both in Street Fighter x Tekken on the PS3. Say what you will about Crappy Box Art not being the true Mega Man, but repeating a crossover seems extremely anticlimatic in my book.

Hey guys, I apologize for the irrelevant post in advance. I'm going to travel to France's Divonne Les Bains tomorrow (which is 20 minutes away from Switzerland's Geneve by car) and I'm searching for a Smash community to play with (preferring Brawl). If you're interested or can help me out regarding French/Swiss Smash community please either reply here or send me a private message.

Thanks
