I honestly don't think it's a stretch to imagine the Direct cancelation was due to Isaac's reveal trailer, which most likely showcased his Venus spells such as Quake, Earthquake, Rockslide and Avalanche. They might even announce someone else now, until things settle down at least. Mad respect to Nintendo if this is the case.

Oh, I don't think it auto updates. But I do think the updates are scheduled ahead of time. Heck, even YouTube lets you do that, and YouTubers will frequently try to schedule them to times which get them the maximum number of views due to how YouTube's promotion algorithms work.

Rescheduling the information wouldn't be too much of a problem, it just depends on how much they had scheduled, and whether they would forget one piece of that total.

Assuming Isaac is announced and how Sakurai likes to throw references to their game in the reveal, what are some of your ideas for them?

Here are some I came up with:
- Isaac fighting against Inkling on the Pirate Ship stage. (Kraken boss fight)
- Isaac running away from Squirtle as it’s using Waterfall. (Isaac freaking out in the waterfall at Mercury Lighthouse)
- Isaac trying to use Move on one of Villager’s trees that’s too close to the edge. (Having to save the person who was turned into a tree)

Actually what would be cooler for that point is to put the villager tree at the seaside of tortimer island to better indicate the reference.

Hi, been following this topic for about a month now. I'm of course here to support Isaac !
I also had some ideas for the trailer:

-If Felix is an echo, showing him drowning in water (i think there is some stages where your character panics when in water)
-Having Waluigi come up to help Isaac, they are Camelot brothers after all, maybe to beat Wario.
-Isaac asleep in the arena.
-Using his graple move (which would probably be a psynergy hand) to grab a fruit from another character or a tree (there is a tree from an assist or characters that grow fruits right?)

I even came up with a whole cinematic idea, I hope it's interresting.

In a forest, we see Link chasing what seems like a fairy, but golden/yellow.
Said light flies to a cave/temple, followed by Link. He comes to meet a huge boulder blocking his path. He tries to move it with different method (stasing it then hitting it, placing a bomb to make it blow up etc... to no avail)
Then while he is trying to think of a way to move it, a blue hue appear from under the boulder, which slowly lifts, showing someon's booths behind, before it's suddenly lifted high, revealing Isaac in the same poses as one of the promo artwork of the first game: "Isaac, makes his Move !"

Not sure how they could show this off, but imply that Whispy Woods is Tret in a gameplay segment.

Depending on whatever Isaac’s taunts are they could make it look like he’s interacting with the tree or surprised to see it.

I feel like leaks are bound to start coming out though, I find it hard to imagine there aren't insiders who know things about the contents of the direct at this point.

Something I've been wondering. Do you think they'll keep the "reveals" for Civilization VI and Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition in the direct or will they remove them since they're not really reveals anymore? I assume they'd still like the publicity that comes with it.

They are likely contracted to do so. It depends on the format of the NDA they had going. And how soon the Direct will be. After all if it is on Monday then they will keep it in. Thursday they might remove it

I'd imagine they will keep the reveals in there. Editing the Direct seems like a lot of work, and as long as they release within 2-3 days it's still recent enough

This is a clutch moment though because I think we’re going to get either Isaac or geno in this position not both. They'll probably keep the direct the same. Given Civ 6 doesn't come out until November on Switch anyway, it's not that big of an issue. same with FFXV PE.

Well Sakurai did tweet a picture of a Monado prop at some event he was attending. You can't get more blantant than that. Since in hindsight Shulk was revealed to be playable.

That trailer is not helpful at all- the clear second newcomer in the trailer is Ridley. That was the issue with his 'size' for years.
But I have never seen that video, thank you. It made me cry to hear people cheer for their character reveals.

Oh, lol, well I mean I'm American originally as well. I speak the language and I've lived here for several years now but I don't see myself as qualified to make a definitive statement on most of that stuff.

Judging by some of the prediction articles I've read, the really popular picks in Japan that I see coming up regularly are Bandana Dee (as most of you know), Rex/Pyra, Sora, and Incineroar. They also seem to have a thing for Crash Bandicoot because I see people bringing him up in several lists. Shadow and other Sonic characters seem like common requests. Lots of love for ARMS characters too, with pretty much every list saying Springman or someone from that franchise is likely. Check out these (all in Japanese but I've chosen ones with pictures)

You'll notice that none of them even mention Isaac. Unfortunately, while the series is definitely remembered here, I think it gets lost in the shuffle of JRPGs, whereas for a lot of people in the West Golden Sun was one of our early forays into the genre and our first real JRPG on a handheld. Interestingly, at least 2 of them feature K. Rool. One of them gives examples of popular western picks, with number 6 being 6.ロビン(黄金の太陽) (Isaac from Golden Sun). So they do know that he's a popular request over here, and if they know then Sakurai certainly does.

Sorry if that's a bit inconclusive. I've moved fairly recently and don't have many Japanese gamer friends so I can't really give you what the word on the street is, but I hope that at least gives you guys a picture of what the Japanese intarwebz are saying.

Golden Sun is liked in Japan. I asked one of my Japanese relatives (It's complicated) about Golden Sun and it's popularity. They say that it was popular, but Nintendo really didn't push it hard enough even when they brought it back for the DS.

(Though, for Isaac to STILL take #18 in Japan is amazing in retrospect.)


But like you said, there are a ton of JRPGs in japan. So standing the test of time requires at least to have consistent releases, or even a popular game to represent the franchise (Ie. Smash Bros.)

I feel like if Isaac is in, Japan is going to remember Golden Sun, and probably interest in the series will rise tremendously over there.




But yeah, sorry for that guys. The stress got to me. Definitely won't happen again.

Sometimes the thread can take a sudden turn to pessimistic in the span of a single day even when we're sitting on the exact same info we've known for a while now. The smash 4 paranoia is strong at times.

Personally I'm not going to feel like we're in the hot seat until we get about three or so more newcomers and about to hit our final presentation. Isaac could very well even be the last character revealed. Unless he's revealed as an assist before then or something.

Dude, your entire argument was about Isaac being the fifth character revealed. It is the thesis to your argument, not a minute detail.
We all know we get old school revivals- your point was that it happens fifth, and that this was Isaacs time.

I dont think there is a hot seat this time around. I guarantee DLC support for this game, and not just support, but avid support, that may even be free for the first year (or significantly discounted in regard to characters), due to the necessity to grow the online service.

We are in a great position for Isaac all around, regardless of him being base roster or not. (Hell, I'd go as far as to say we may not get him in the start because his popularity, made apparent to Nintendo, pushed them to make the next Golden Sun a stronger priority for Camelot, and that Isaac will get released with the game).
Optimism is powerful. So is imagination.
