I can't speak for anyone else, but I've been waiting for Isaac since 2002.

Not that I'll be super disappointed if he isn't revealed today. I'm more worried about the game itself being exciting for me, to be honest.

I wanted to say about a possible Golden Sun 4 reveal, I am 99% sure it won't happen, Camelot finished working on Aces barely a month ago (maybe even less?) even if GS would be their next project (lol Golf says hello) there just is not enough time to show anything. What could they show after 2-3 weeks of development? Character designs?
With this in mind, I absolutely want Isaac in Smash, it's far more likely!
Smash and Fire Emblem is what I am most excited about for today, you?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've been waiting for Isaac since 2002.

Not that I'll be super disappointed if he isn't revealed today. I'm more worried about the game itself being exciting for me, to be honest.

Same for me mate but every character that I didn't know before or didn't gives me a new character to fall in love with. Besides every game someone isn't going to get the character they wanted it happens. I see no reason to let that completely destroy my enjoyment of the game.

I'm trying to go in like a blank slate and just take everything as it comes but at this point I'd be really surprised (and disappointed) if Ridley doesn't get revealed, for the hardcore fans.

I've also been saying how I'm feelin' good about Isaac and I'm gonna stand by that.

I've kept a very small and cautious hope we could one day see Isaac, now my most wanted newcomer. Obviously I don't expect it but if it happens, I will explode. He'd probably get in as a ballot newcomer so E3 might be the perfect event to reveal him at.

I completely forgot about the inklings until I saw them, so 2 new characters with some more to come, Sakurai said with a roster this big, don't expect too many newcomers so more is yet to join... Do we have still hope? Can we survive until September when the directs will happen? Ugh.. Dying already...

That said I'm not sure what this means for Isaac. At the very least he didn't show up in the Assist Trophy section. My heart was in my mouth at that part.

Though I guess if this is really an Ultimate Smash Bros, we can probably expect Isaac to at least show up as an assist trophy this time. (though I'll still hold out hope for playable)

Reasonable depending on how well he performed in the ballot. I do think it makes things trickier though.

I feel like there isn't much use thinking too hard about what Sakurai said, you'll only get yourself down for no good reason.

Didn't every newcomer last time get a reveal trailer though? (so there weren't any "secret" newcomers) If that's the case then we only have 5 months in which to have newcomers revealed to us.

I'd like to think the "Ultimate" part means Sakurai is going to be consulting the Smash Ballot (and so being more "fan-servicey"), which hopefully hopefully can help Isaac snag a spot.

As an Isaac fan I'm pretty happy with how today went. Another popular fan choice made it in, some notable competition is confirmed back as ATs, and we know any further reveals will be newcomers. There's still some time for him to pop up as an AT during E3, but so far so good.

Also, personally, I'm just happy about the idea of Ultimate as it suggests that, even if he misses the cut for playable, Isaac should at least be an AT again. It's not much, but after his conspicuous absence from Sm4sh, I'd be happy to at least get that bit of Golden Sun representation back.

Inklings... Ridley... veterans... a potential K. Rool hint with the fake-out of "The End"... I don't know what direction newcomers will go for this game but there's a theme of popular fan demand here. Maybe the base newcomers will be some more high-ranking ballot characters, and if that's the case, the golden boy still has a real shot.

I think Golden Sun has chance at Smash Content again; at least a Stage. It's kind-of crazy we haven't got a single character from one of Camelot's franchises, but only time will tell.

That's the first confirmation of a Pokeball or Assist Trophy cut from a previous game returning.

Which is why my hopes for Isaac are higher than I thought they'd be at this point. This seems to be mostly about fanservice rather than their usual "generational jump" where they try to blend it in with innovative left-field additions and recent characters to promote games. They may have taken most of their newcomer pool (including DLC) from the ballot since that's the ultimate source of fanservice. If that's the case, characters like K. Rool, Isaac, Banjo, Ashley, Bandana Dee, etc. potentially have their greatest chance here.

Depending on how their prioritized this process, maybe most of the base newcomers will fit into the mold of ranking "good" and a lot of the higher-ranked characters would end up being DLC since they likely couldn't feasibly include all their choices at once. For example, Isaac wouldn't perform as well as K. Rool, so maybe there's an urge to make sure as many of those characters that weren't at the top could still get their chance. While I think K. Rool would be in the base game, there could be others at a similar ranking to him that'd have to get pushed to the side for slightly more obscure choices like Isaac.

At least, that's the hope since it'd be hard to see Isaac be a good choice as DLC unless he comes with a Golden Sun 4 announcement. This is a stretch, but since this game wants to provide the "Ultimate" experience for fans, it's my hopeful theory. It could just as easily be as you say; there's a limited number, Isaac didn't perform well enough, and he's back to being an AT.

Honestly, I just want him back IN THE GAME. Assist Trophy would be fine. I'm still salty he wasn't even an Assist in Smash4...

If Isaac was removed because of the limitations the 3DS brought to Smash, there's no reason he shouldn't be back now. I wanna see a nice high quality model of our boy.
