I hope we finally get some Golden Sun love in this game. I'm really surprised not even Djinn have made it in as items/enemies/ATs at this point.
I really would like to see Sveta from DD, since I love hand-to-hand fighters, but finally getting Isaac would be amazing.

Definitely still my most wanted newcomer.

Golden Sun could use a playable character rep (and a new game for that matter) so I'm on the Isaac support train.

I'm still on this train, as always. Protagonist Teen Isaac, Grizzled Adult Isaac, or Son of Isaac- whoever it is, I'd be really happy.

Personally, I'd really like them to do an HD remake of Golden Sun + TLA on the Switch, because why not? Heck, I'd take Dark Dawn. It would look rather gorgeous either way and could hopefully breathe some new life into the series.

No He Wouldn't; Robin uses Lightning; Isaac's Primary Natural Element is Earth; which consists of Grass attacks AND Rock/Ground Attacks, and Robin Uses Books, while Isaac uses his Synergy hand Constructs!!

When more new Nintendo franchises like Splatoon and Arms show up, I feel the Golden Sun series being more forgotten which it shouldn't be.

With how recent most of these new IPs are, and considering that Sakurai most likely started working on Smash right after DLC on the last game ended (if it was indeed that "secret project" he was working on at the time), I'd like to think ballot hopefuls like Isaac were the main considerations for newcomers in this game.

Assuming the roster was finalized in 2016, I only see an ARMS character and a Xenoblade 2 character being likely if slots are specifically reserved for them, similar to how an exception was made for a Pokemon X and Y slot in Smash 4 since the success of Xenoblade 2 and ARMS would neither be guaranteed at that time nor even be a factor. You also have to keep in mind that historically, Xenoblade has not had a newcomer for every single game and situation it had a chance to, seeing as Elma wasn't a DLC newcomer for Smash 4 despite good timing, meaning it is not guaranteed that the idea of a Xenoblade 2 character would necessarily be high enough priority for there to be a placeholder, at least whenever the roster was finalised.

I'm not saying that a Xenoblade 2 or ARMS character is implausible, far from it. It's just that we have to consider every singe plausible possibility and it is possible we don't get either of them.

I say that an ARMS character would be too recent since Sakurai's probably decided the roster far earlier. And aside from Splatoon, ARMS and Rhythm Heaven, there's not much other big currently unrepresented IPs left than Golden Sun. Also, bringing new franchises into a new Smash entry seems to be pretty important and with the results of the ballot, I think it's looking not to bad for Golden Sun. Wouldn't get my hopes too high, though.

Well, regarding ARMS, yesterday Polygon published an interview with the ARMS producer, Yabuki, about having an Arms Fighter in the new Smash and he confessed the IP was too young to be in the game (though he blushed when he was asked, according the interviewer).
Given that the colorful characters of Arms have resonated with Nintendo fans, I asked Yabuki the obvious question about his fighting game: Will we see, as is frequently speculated, an Arms fighter appear in the recently announced Super Smash Bros. for Switch, and if so, who?

According to my notes, Yabuki’s answer to this line of questioning was prefaced with “intense forehead rubbing.”

“I think the correct reaction is to say ‘I can’t answer that!’” Yabuki said. “Another thing I’d say is that Arms is so young — it’s only a year old — that maybe it’s too early to think about that. But I think it’s absolutely fantastic that there are people out there talking about Arms characters in that way.”

Considering that Lucina was a last addition to the roster, and her trailer was in May if I'm not wrong, all the new characters should be included and playable by now.

I always liked Adult Isaac. Though Teen Isaac is the most representative and iconic, Adult Isaac could be a nice contrast to the roster like Snake was in Brawl.

But, in my roster dreams, I would have adult Isaac as a fighter who only uses earth and plant attacks, and Matthew would use the "Psyenergy Hands" and Djinns. Also, the dynamic between father and son could be interesting in a hypothetical adventure mode (and Matthew could have a Teen Isaac as an alternate costume) . But, well, I would accept any character, I just want a Golden Sun character in the game lol

What makes you think that? Nintendo's been coming out with a lot of new IP's in recent years. These past 4 years saw the debut of 2 major Nintendo series, Splatoon and ARMS. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo's next heavy hitter was revealed as well this E3.

I just really hope Isaac did as well on the Ballot as we think he did. You never know how things could have gone down.

Advance Wars is still a big IP left that hasn't been represented but otherwise you're right. The only series left are Splatoon (confirmed already), ARMS, Advance Wars, Golden Sun, and Rhythm Heaven.

I'm also iffy about ARMS' timeliness but there's a good chance they could have been added late in Smash Switch's development.

I would like Sakurai to rescue Isaac\Hans and so, he would be a playable character in Smash Bros.
The Golden Sun saga can't be forgotten.

Other than those two, what other new IPs have they made recently? Not many, I'd assume.

And since there was a gap of 2 years between those two IPs, and ARMS only came out last year, I doubt they're gonna reveal a new one at E3.

Nintendo can pull out a new IP at any time. There is no set timetable. Although if there was another one it probably wouldn't even make the base roster.

Indeed it should. Hopefully the leak was true about a new Advance Wars game on the 3DS.

And made just maybe a new Golden Sun as well Switch or 3DS. I'll take what I can get.

Uhh it was a 4Chan leak that I don't really think is true even though I really want it to be real.

I don't want to get too excited because Mashed Potato Samurai has let me down before but I think Isaac is in. In the past he was fighting others as a new IP and everything was always against him but now I think hes going to take the retro Iceclimber, Pit, Little Mac spot. I think that his only real competition is Takamaru but when you put them side by side he generally wins out.

I still believe he has quite a solid chance; however, I doubt he is going to be considered a "retro" character.

I'd like to know just what exactly constitutes a "retro" character nowadays because Isaac and some other characters from the N64/GBA era are older than the IC's were when they were added in Melee.

I have no idea, I just figure to be retro, at least a decade has to pass. I doubt it is clearly defined. But I do not really consider games from this century retro to be perfectly honest. Maybe it is just a way to make me feel less old.

To that end, Little Mac was still considered retro predominately because of the "prime" of his series. So, who knows, perhaps Golden Sun applies in that regard.

It seems like a very ambiguous definition IMO. One without clear distinction.

But yeah I agree. 2000's stuff being "retro" does make me feel old despite being a kid in that decade lol.

I don't really think Isaac would be competing with characters as old as, say, Takamaru, for a spot. I suppose he could count as pretty retro at this point though.

In my humble opinion, if he doesn't take that retro spot he will never get in. Sakurai is very picky when it comes to adding new IPs to smash. And when Shulk was added in the last game I knew his chances were over. But this time around he has a huge lack of competition. I think Xenoblade X came out to early and Xenoblade 2 came out to late leaving this void for an RPG type character. I think he had a shot at little Macs spot last game too but with the abundance of human sword users and Little Macs return he lost out. That competition doesn't exist now.

Plus when you look at retro characters, the Nes has almost had every plausible choice taken, the Snes is really bone dry, which brings us to the N64 GBA era.

I'm sorry I cant hlp but be really really excited.

The problem is, if you try to shift the definition of retro to the GBA/N64 era, Isaac still has competition.

Besides, somehow I doubt Sakurai will change his definition of retro. Just like a lot of people - especially around my age and older, but probably even younger - refuse to see anything that isn't like Atari, early arcades, NES and SNES (and the respective systems of competitors) as really retro. Also, lets be honest, Sakurai seems pretty set on NES = Retro - Even as of SSB4, the retro character is still a NES character. For the definition of retro to be redefined right now to include franchises that came out contemporaneous with Super Smash Bros Melee is really odd, and I'm sure it's not just me not wanting to feel old.

Sure... They can be labeled 'retro' in a way... But I don't think it's the same type of retro that Sakurai is going for.

The definition has been shifting some as the first generation of gamers are starting reach towards the middle our lives and newer gaming generations that started in an entirely different time.

For better or worse lol.
