All the same, I didn't get to see the match - was K9 playing poorly? I thought Sheik was a notoriously poor matchup for Roy.

The only really big name there though in all honestly is Ally. So it won't count for a real major, as stated before in the post quoted.

They were a thing in Florida... I still remember Marth, Mewtwo, and Robin being in them... Yep... So, Rise of the Low Tiers 2 was the last one they did and it was on 12/24/15. If they were running 1.1.3, then hoo, boy... Marth, definitely Mewtwo, and Robin -- who didn't appear, but was in the first RotLT1 set before 1.1.0's release -- would have been buffed. Even if they weren't, there were arguably 2 mid-tiers. If they did, 1 high tier and 1 mid tier. Mekos has been a huge online threat for a very long time (IIRC he was near unbeaten in the brawl days?), it's a shame he doesn't appear offline too often, but perhaps with the rise of online tournament qualifiers / recognition, we could see some of the most potent of wifi warriors be given more opportunities to make a mark offline.

Things start tomorrow, but IN ADVANCE
"Top 32" predicted bracket. One set in winner's exists before this, but it's otherwise 2 rounds of phase 2 pools, 1 round of top 24 and 1 round of top 8.

PinkFresh is a bit of a enigma, coming from KTAR saga he could very well come out on top against VoiD (critical turning point #1), and he's personally confident against Cloud (Vinnie has apparently forfeited singles, which I'm sad to hear but I hope he enjoys his time there). From there it's Anti and his plethora of potential counter picks, and another opportunity for a large Bayonetta upset, if he were to come out on top here I think there would be a sudden shift in possible top 8 expectations.

Zero Suits, Diddys, Mewtwos, Lucarios and Marios are all team killing each other; meanwhile double Sheik/Bayo could be what we see in Winner's Finals, #SCRIPTED.

Ally still has a losing record to Nairo post-patch and lost their last encounter I believe, but Marss/Nairo could go either way - the ditto between them was last seen at genesis3, expect the hype jank 30 second games. If Ally/Nairo did meet, this could be one of the critical turning points of the tournament (#2)

Otherwise ZeRo has a bracket side full of people who have beaten him in their most recent sets: MrE, Mr.R and Dabuz; followed by a potential Anti/Ally. Absolutely no better opportunity in any single bracket in recent memory for him to re-galvanize his position as #1.

This is Mr R's half-bracket to lose otherwise, imo (with Goma being a potential problem).

Some of Japan are here and besides being seeded against each other, they could very well be underseeded and cause upsets (possibly due to match up inexperience).
Could Taiheita ride Japanese optimism to a stunning finish like Kame? How he does against Marss could be the start of something crazy (#3)

Yeah, upsets are pretty likely.

There are several names which are commonly faltering, but this tournament has nearly the perfect schedule for players and most arrived and settled the day before - although I hear 'friendly set ups for top level players' are hard to come by, I'd otherwise hope to see more consistency at Smashcon than other recent events.

At the least for round 1 pools. From there who knows!

I think Mr-r has the worst bracket.

And that's not even because he'll have to play Zinoto or Zero/Mr E but because of Gomamugitya. There's just so much upset potential if you go against a japanese Lucario as Sheik, I can legitimately see Ramin losing early and wouldn't even call that an upset. And if he makes it past him, Zinoto and Zero he'll still have to play either Abadango or dabuz. His bracket half [and quarter] is honestly pretty much the worst he could've gotten - he'd probably trade places with Ally in a heartbeat.

Could see/anticipate an upset from Gomamugitya's Lucario, but think he has no extremely difficult sets otherwise. I'm not sure if Ramin and Zinoto have played in a while (I thought they played at CEO but couldn't find vids), and Sheik does have the (slight) advantage on Diddy (applies against ZeRo too), he took his last set from Dabuz 3-1 less than 2 weeks ago.
And inherently, most anyone would trade their spot for 1st seed's spot - 6WX could break the curse (although I think he beat him at a midwest regional recently!), Taiheita could cause a MU uncertainty upset and Nairo/Marss could possibility do it too.

Oh and Lucario team killing as well~
