So I was playing around in single player and I came across something very odd. I was in event mode # 20 playing as Charizard. You face 8 chars in this event ending with PT. I had just KOed the last guy before PT as Ivysaur and right before PT came out I thought I would switch. When I tried the switch took a very long time and when it ended Squirtle came out. No joke.

I tried it again and was able to recreate the effect. Not only that but after I switched from Ivy to Squirtle I couldn't switch to Charizard anymore. It kept going from Ivy to Squirtle for the rest of the match. I've gotten it to work with Zard to Ivy too. Haven't gotten from Squirtle to Charizard yet but I'd assume you can.

Anyway its easy enough to replicate. Go to event 20 and switch before Trainer sends out his pokemon. I very much doubt this has any practical application but maybe it will lead to something useful. If nothing else its kind of cool to switch from Zard to Ivy for once.`

so are we saying that on a stage we can skip switch pokemon before they come out? or is it only on BF?

this probably has something to do with the coding for how the cpu pt works

this would be pretty ****ing **** if we could do this in normal matches though

so no one has tested it in training mode or anything yet? Hmmm. Just to make sure I read the OP right; before PT sends out a pokemon you hit Down+B and you skip the pokemon that is supposed to come out?

edit: the PT in my post was the PT that we control. or is it that before the CPU PT sends out his pokemon you switch and that's how it goes? (negative switching?)

It would be awesome (PT for high tier. Lol) but don't get your hopes too far up. You switch before the cpu PT comes into the match. (Its one of those matches where you face like 6 opponents in a row).

Remember this is in event mode so they don't spawn like normal characters on a platform. They just fall out from the sky.

My guess is that the PT (CPU) is not loaded at the beginning of the match and that if you try to switch while that data is getting loaded things just get screwy.

Battlefield has nothing to do with it I think.

I see. I've learned to stop getting my hopes on on a new trick or glitch after facing alot of rejection on the TL boards, but just because it's iffy doesn't mean it can't be tested.

If people find out how to replicate this in regular matches than everyone will just be Squirtle.
I'll make sure to try this on the weekend.

at least 80% of the people here use squirtle and the rest use Charz so it makes little difference.

Maybe I should start learning to start with Ivy just for the heck of it.

Yeah, I start with Ivy from time to time but I end up getting frustrated and stuff. I usually throw my controller through my tv and out the window.

I'd use charizard. But i really dont think this is possible, the event and how characters are brought in it are different then normal as said before. But if it can be found out, that would be sweet.

I almost always start with him. Though I know he sucks. =P

I would skip Squirtle because Ivysaur is too awsome and Squirtle/Ivy is not durable enough for me. =P

Right behind you.
OK, I haven't tested it, but I may know what this is. I think event 20 is an all-star match, right? So don't you start with 2 stocks? I believe, and i may be wrong, if you die, you cannot use the same pokemon again. So, if you died before you tried this, that would explain the skip. However, even if I am wrong, seeing as how this only happens on this event, I doubt it has any practical application in actual matches. Though that would be sick.

Edit: Tien, is this some kind of sick joke? I've tried but I can't duplicate this. Anybody else?

I'm pretty sure that there is no restriction on using a poke more than once and I've done this without dying. However there may be some sort of restriction on the CPU trainer so perhaps that has something to do with it?

I've been able to replicate it several times but since its event mode I can't get a video of it or anything. But it totally happened. Kill the last guy to come out before PT (either lucas or diddy IIRC) wait about 5-6 seconds and then press Down B. I've also gotten this thing to work but continuously switching after the enemy PT is out.

After trying this out about 12 times, I've finally been able to create a steady Ivysaur-Squirtle switch. I just repeatedly continued switching while the CPU PT is on the stage.

was it because you KO'd Charizard or was it really legit and you negative switched?

When Charizard came out it ko'd my Squirtle and then I respawned and just kept switching and switching until I got Ivysaur-Squirtle.
Edit: I tried switching over and over again with two different PTs on training mode and I couldn't recreate the skip.

I tried doing this in
Event#5(Become the Champion!)
Event#10(All-Star Battle Regulars)
Event#20(All-Star Battle x 1)
Event#29(All-Star Semifinal Regulars)
Event#34(All-Star Battle Melee)
Event#39(All-Star Battle x 2)
And I was successfully able to skip a Pokemon in each one.

So I'm guessing that most of these do not have PT as an opponent? That's interesting. I initially thought it had something to do the computer PT but I guess not. I'll try to see if I could get this to work in either all star or multi-man melee.

Has anyone tried testing this in PT diddos?
Yeah. I set up a match and just mashed down B on both controllers for a while. Nothing really happened. But I didn't try for too long because it didn't seem too important. After all there aren't many PT mains and if I encounter one I'll usually use another character just to avoid the ditto.

PT diddos are epic. Even if it ends with Toby Rocksmash stage spiking me. D=

I main Snake/Falco on the side, and that's just cruel to do that against a fellow PT main.

PT dittos are fun as long as you never have the same Pokemon up against itself.

Is it possible that this has something to do with (in the video) the CPU PT dropping an item as he switched? A long shot, but might as well have a look.

This is clearly Sakurai's doing and he just wanted to make the 1player Event Mode "harder".

I havn't managed to pull this off without first losing a stock... I think that's what happened in the video as well, he pulled it off right after he lost Charizard.. Can anyone confirm this to happen without losing a stock during the event?

I finally got around to recording a video if anyone wants to see it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQA6NtPYnko

I recorded from the time the PT opponent came out to when the glitch occurred, so the beginning is just me switching a lot. Skip to 1:40 if you wanna just see when the skipping pokemon starts happening.
How interesting. This'll help those who only like two characters right?

I didn't know you lurked on the PT boards boards Aero lol.

Edit- Most PTs prefer to only predominattly use two chars, it makes sense, there's rarely any point using a third pokemon when you don't need to, considering that it usually is the one that does the worst against the opponent.
