Geez, news about potential leaks is like poking an ant bed. Look at all these people!

Let it be said that this particular image leak has created quite the buzz. I get how the room situation completely kills it and yet at the same time the model for Chrom looks fantastic. To the point of detail that Sakurai likes to do. Example being Phosphora. So much detail for an assist trophy. Again not sure what to think right now.

Once again, he likely doesn't have the game itself. If this is real, he likely got a hold of the video file for Chrom's reveal trailer, explaining the detail and full-screen still-shot. Leaking a video is easier than leaking an entire game.

So a couple of things, I felt like emulating the scene in my own room with an actual screen from Brawl.

Comparing the two images, I think it should be safe to say that the screen of Chrom was at the very least shopped onto the television. The image is way too bright and is practically screenshot quality color-wise.

I was also gonna use the bogus image editor finding tool we used during the initial Palutena leak, but they got rid of it. So darn.

That's my point. If it was photoshopped the guy would have made him more like official art. But since it's different it actually could make it more believable.

Considering you can make your Wii U a media player through the web browser, like others have suggested it could be a video and not the game (which I think it's too early to even come to that thought of someone owning or having access to the game unless they're playing a yet to be released demo that could be featured at E3- unlikely though).

Chrom's model is too smooth. With a close-up of that degree, we should see some jagged edges somewhere, since Smash is meant to look great from far away, since that's how the game plays.

When Luigi was revealed, some people complained about his hat's sharper edges. I see nothing even remotely sharp on Chrom.

Admittedly I don't know a lot about photography, but perhaps it's a matter of contrast?

Has anyone considered that the background around the tv might have been photoshopped in by the leaker rather than the pic or tv itself, just to take suspicion off of him in case he gets found out? It's out there, but possible...

even if the "room" wasnt photoshopped, it's highly possible someone has that picture put it up on their tv purposely displayed irate gamer and other M and flipped the bird AND released it on April Fools day JUST to discredit the picture so they wouldn't get in trouble for leaking...

now it sounds really crazy and conspiracy theory-ish BUT think about this... if you were going to this much trouble to FAKE a picture, would you really put that much in the pic to discredit it?

though we are all discussing it like crazy so i guess none of that has deterred us from debating if its real or not which is usually what faker WANT their faked info to do...

I dont know about this one my GUT tells me fake cause of all the stuff in the background but when i think of the motivation behind spending the time to create a Chrom model that looks that good yet the photo itself of everything look THAT bad its almost more likely it was done to purposely discredit real info.

either that or its truly THAT blatantly obvious of an April fools joke...but again why go through all the trouble of making Chrom look that good just to make the final leaked photo so obviously fake..im torn here haha.


also yes the chrom model is very good though a bit blurry, if he looks like marth thats simply his character design, even if this is faked i think the leaker made the model from the ground up not just a tweeked marth model.

It's so clean. It could very well be a shopped Marth, but things line up so nicely. It even has a little bit of mannerism reminiscent of Chrom but not Marth. The costume is definitely what separates it from a haphazard photoshop job.

I won't call it real just yet. But I will call it gooooood. I won't put any money down on it, but I do want to believe.

Makes sense but unfortunatly that's not enough so far in my opinion

(Ps reminder to everyone e even if the chrom picture turns out to be fake it does not deconfirm him as playable.

If it's real, then we can safely assume:

A: This is just video. There's no way this guy got it into his house.
B: This guy is someone on the NoA team. Probably a translator. Maybe Nintendo of [Non-American English Speaking Country], but America seems the most likely.
C: This guy was probably upset with Nintendo and decided to leak it to get even. Maybe he was fired or going to be fired (or something similar). Would explain the middle finger and the timing, honestly. He wants to leak stuff to get even, but doesn't want to get caught, so he does it April Fool's day.

That is possible, I couldn't perfectly emulate the lighting because I wasn't there. But it still seems pretty fishy that the quality of the color on the television screen is practically the same to an intact Screenshot.
So even if this is real or not, which I still sorta doubt personally, the game screenshot probably was edited onto the TV somehow. Because there's no way in hell that image is coming from the Wii U unless by the photo channel or something.

He's so sad that a character that isn't even on a Nintendo console got in before him, the entire room is essentially black and white.

Id say it's fake but that model looks legit (his face structure is a little longer than marths aswell)... If it were a 3ds Pic then I would had call it Bulls***. It looks like a leaked trailer and this guy just decided to upload a pic on this day because most people won't believe it.

I really like this leak is so trollish but at the same time so believable, the model of Chrom is so well done, I don´t know what to say, I can at least think that maybe the leak is from a trailer reveal, for example I´m from México and here we have a really great Production House of modeling and animation that most of times work with Movie and TV Series to create special effects or videos like the reveal trailers and most of the work are for American movies and series, so maybe those trailers are not being made on Japan and are worked overseas?

The Leak is Strong with this One.. But Photoshopping has gotten INSANELY Professional Nowadays (Have you SEEN what they Can Make even the Ugliest Women into.. ;D).. My Biggest thing is The Noses. The Noses seem to be LEGIT Copies. This is not a BrawlVault Model Either. BrawlVault Has Not Chroms.. I Wish They did though -.-

That's exactly what I see, too. The noses are perfect replicas of each other. Sakurai has posted a lot of screenshots of the game, but it would be hard to get the exact same angle, same lighting, same position and everything.

My other issue is the ear. To me, the ear looks almost identical to the Marth ear, just with less hair covering it, which again could be easily photoshopped.

I honestly don't believe he has a copy of the game, but it is possible he has files. If it were part of a trailer and he has it, he could have easily released a few seconds of it. But to make people question if its legit or not, he could have just put that picture up only, to make it seem possibly real, but also fake at the same time.

I'd be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiised if it were Sakurai's April Fool's joke in the form of "Hey look, it's Chrom, who like the Man Fit Trainer is a alternate form for Marth."

And a little less pissed if it were the same deal for Ike, whom would then be revealed on Wednesday. I love me some Ike, but Chrom deserves his own spot.

Ain't gonna happen, but you know, explore every avenue and whatnot.

Just a small detail i'd like to take notice here. This is not the exact picture as Marth's. The Leaves in the background are at different angles and facing different directions due to blowing in the wind. It's a minor detail, but a very important one, as it could mean either
1. Lots of hard work and fine detail put in by the leaker or
2. even more work and detail put in, but this time from the dev team because he's an actual character that got leaked.

(also clouds at a slightly different angle as well.)

Edit: on my stance with the leak, I'd really like for it to be true, but i don't want to count my chickens before they hatch.

Right if he does not say April fools about the picture then this rumor could be as good as palutena

Lets find him and get to the bottom of this! This would be a new technique of finding out whether its real or not. Then smashboards could possibly be the only website to know the truth about this leak through this method. I say its worth a try Swamp.

That was gameplay, not part of the CGI portion.

And keep in mind that gameplay of a character is shown in a character reveal. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see that leaked.

Exactly, and the character model is pretty smooth looking for a close-up like that. Which is why I have my doubts.

The room is what kills it for me, and if it were just the TV screen I would probably believe it. Given that the game is most likely not complete (Sakurai's resolution to finish it this year), it's very unlikely that someone from NoA has a copy translating it (unless we get a Summer 2014 release date in which case I could see it making sense).

Plus getting the video onto his own Wii U would require downloading it from the source, and such process is definitely tightly monitored. There's no way this guy inserted his SD card, USB, etc. into the computers and was able to download this type of information without the computer sending off some sort of red flag.

Many seem to be saying that the model is too smooth, but I can definitely see some jagged edges of polygons in specific areas. Specifically, the edges of his shoulder armour have noticeable areas where you can notice polygons, as well as the crossband on his chest. The facial area is very smooth looking, but faces in general are very well-modeled.

If it is a shop, it would be strange for someone to alter the pattern on the shoulder pad as well. That doesn't seem like something someone would do. This could be another case where there's a slight alteration, such as the Starman that can be found amongst Palutena's various golden ornaments that hang from her clothing...which totally seems like something Sakurai would approve of for the Smash universe.

As for facial features, there are a lot of similarites (as there are supposed to be, really), but the eyebrows are a bit different, as are the eyes themselves. The closest pic of Marth has a different direction of the glare from the eyes, as well. That wouldn't be tough to shop, but it also seems like it would be an oversight (pun intended) that a leaker wouldn't pay attention to.

I dunno...I'm leaning towards real on this one. Either that or it's a REALLY damn good fake.

So the possibilities I currently see are these:

a) it's fake, shopped using Marth's features
b) it's real, and Chrom is a new character for Smash 4
c) it's real, and Chrom is an alternate costume for Marth (could explain the similarities, and also he is a descendant of Marth who wields a different variation of the Falchion. I could see him being an alternate model/costume)

I'm leaning towards option b, though.
