I think you are disproving your own argument. The odds are totally against the characters he had chosen and the odds of getting them right are even greater. If everyone has a thick skull for not understanding , the same can be said for you being in denial.

This sounds like you have an ax to grind with the possibility of Mii being a playable character

Be honest. Do you not think that Nintendo could have been deciding which character video to showcase, which lead to the multiple possibilities in the leak?
I'm not in denial, if the Miis get revealed, big deal, I was wrong. I don't hold grudges and I don't have an agenda, I'm just trying to use my head here.

It is not impossible for someone to get a lucky guess, almost everything happens with luck and a little guess work, it's how we evolved to adapt.

If you really think guessing six characters is harder than guessing lottery numbers, then I think you're the one in denial here.

If anything, this reveal adds further evidence that it's fake.

First, if Sol was telling the truth, where would he get the info. His source would likely be a part of the E3 staff and not a part of the development staff. It can't be the latter because, were it so, he would have had information that was all overe the place and not specifically for E3. He said the reveals were at E3, so we can assume it's the former.

Now, with Little Mac shown, we can see that all the Smash references on that stage have been swaps for Punch-Out references. The original rumor says that Mac was to be shown at E3. He latter recanted and said they were pushed back. but if that was the case, why did the stage change? The stage is an asset developed in the game and not one just used for promotion. Before, it was made in such a way as to not allude to Little Mac's presence in the game. If Sol is telling the truth, the E3 showing had to be planned and the staff later changed their mind. But if Little Mac was to be shown, why hide that it's a Punch-Out stage. The fact that they hid it in the first place suggest that Little Mac was never planned at all.

No one doubted Little Mac was going to be in. Him predicting it would be the same as if he predicted that stages were going to be in. The rumor has been a hoax from the beginning. It was a lucky guess that he rid with. I don't know why anyone believes it when he said it was a leak AFTER he had some of them right. Kids these days really lack critical thinking skills.

You're jumping to all sorts of conclusions. There is no way that you can figure out what position the leaker held from the information that was given. Don't be silly.

Now, with Little Mac shown, we can see that all the Smash references on that stage have been swaps for Punch-Out references. The original rumor says that Mac was to be shown at E3. He latter recanted and said they were pushed back.
Well this is just false. He never recanted and said they were pushed back. What are you talking about? The original post was a "speculative post" about what Nintendo would show reveal. Later, after WFT was revealed, he posted an article saying 3 of the 6 he was tipped off about have been revealed and the other 3 have yet to be shown. Later, on the last day of E3 he registered here and made a post explaining exactly what his source told him and the circumstances around the reveal. There was no recant. He simply expounded and said that his source said barring an impromptu change. Which FYI does actually happen.

but if that was the case, why did the stage change? The stage is an asset developed in the game and not one just used for promotion. Before, it was made in such a way as to not allude to Little Mac's presence in the game. If Sol is telling the truth, the E3 showing had to be planned and the staff later changed their mind. But if Little Mac was to be shown, why hide that it's a Punch-Out stage. The fact that they hid it in the first place suggest that Little Mac was never planned at all.
Again you're jumping to all sorts of conclusions here. You don't know when Sal got his information. He could have received it 2 months before E3. Meaning that unless you know when Sal was tipped off, or exactly what the position of the leaker is you're making assumptions that will lead to incorrect conclusions. In fact Sal says this:

I don't know the legitimacy of the person who tipped me, which is why I held onto this information
So we know he held on to the information for an indeterminate time. We know he wasn't sure so he said nothing when he initially received it. We know he then posted it the day before E3. We do NOT know when he got the information and how outdated it may have been by the time he posted it. Again, it's entirely possible that little mac wasn't ready to be shown so when they cut the trailer they just decided to have placeholder graphics for the stage in the interim. You don't even know if the graphics for the stage were done! They literally could have just completed it. If you look at the original reveal and the stage now you'll notice a lot more differences.

Uh huh...

Oh I don't doubt it at all. Considering how each character besides Villager has come in their own digital package of sorts, I don't find it unlikely at all Sakurai could have just decided to pull from his original plan and spread the reveals out more.

Just be mindful how you put things. Came off a little too snarky with Chu. That's all.

So you saying I'm coming off as snarky when he clearly passed an psuedo-insult stating certain people can't think critically. I'm dumb, just not that dumb

Haha, Ok, I see your point. Sure, its possible he guessed. Its equally as possible he didn't
I'm not hating on the Mii, I'm just stating a fact. We already have an avatar character from a hugely popular and established video game series. It'd be a bit odd to have another one, but I'm certainly not against it.
I would agree but... we can't always have what we want now can we
Ah, but unlikely things can happen, right? Like I and others have said, there are tons of character requests out there. So one trying to make a believable leak will put in an obscure character. It's like getting a lottery ticket. Odds are against everybody, but somebody can will. People have won lottery tickets.
Yes, it appears the discussion ends as a non-issue. Someone already pointed out, the odds of hitting the lottery are way worse than guessing newcomers
Personally, while I do believe the character list from the E3 2013 rumor is probably true (it's an extraordinarily lucky guess if not), the leak itself is wrong by the rules of this thread because it got the time frame wrong and that's that. Clearly plenty of people still believe in it regardless of what the OP indicates and it's not worth giving it an exception right now when there are still two far from guaranteed characters that have yet to be revealed and many other "leaks" are being proven false by similar reveal date errors.
True, perhaps a new category is needed for special cases such as Palutena and the E3 Leak

It is near impossible to guess three characters.

Also, despite my dislike for a playable Mii, I can accept he still has a chance. This leak seems like it could be real, but I'm just not buying it.

The more likely reason monster hunter wasn’t in MVC3 is because it wasn’t a Nintendo platform. It is sort of how we got snake which is why PSAS did not have him. I could see that statement being different since it’s been a few years.
Monster Hunter isn't even a primary Nintendo franchise, in fact it's more related to Sony before 3 came out. Regardless, there are many Capcom franchises that appeared on more Nintendo systems then Sony and yet still appeared in Mv3C.

It wasn't easy to get lucky. But what do they have to lose? Really? They can guess anything they want, and they can get lucky. It's possible to get lucky. So when 3 characters weren't revealed of the leaky 6, people just claimed that the others were for 2014's E3. That's ridiculous enough. If they were characters nobody wanted, we wouldn't be discussing this, and you know that is true. Moving on, once Little Mac was confirmed in a non E3 reveal, people ENTIRELY ignore the E3 thing, or just says that it didn't mean ALL the characters would be in E3 reveals, which it clearly says. WFT just got Wii Fit U, so hey, it was possible! She could even be said to be compared to the likes of Lip! You can guess!
You're arguing that he got lucky with 4 newcomers over him just being tipped off, which one do you really think is more likely? I would hate pac man being in this game, and Mii isn't on top of my priority list either, i'm on the leak is real side because that's the most logical side. Like SuperNintendoDisney Mentioned earlier, Occam's razor dictates the simplest theory is the favored when in explaining unknown phenomena. The simplest theory here is that he was tipped off, as opposed to him getting a "lucky guess" for one character guessed by pretty much nobody as noted by Sakurai and pretty much everyone else, predicting two "shoe-ins" (one being outright denied as smash worthy by the game creator), and "guessing" mega man.
Cause we know every single character request and leaks. Everyone.
Even if there were other guesses for WFT out there, the count would obviously be too miniscule to matter at all, regardless. Saying that someone could've guessed WFT if they thought hard enough is just plain incorrect

I know but still it's becoming more and more Nintendo with each game. Plus Capcom has always wanted to be apart of smash bros and Nintendo's fighting games.

To be honest, someone asked me who I was expecting to be in a few days before the E3 trailer and I said Mega Man, Animal Crossing Guy, Takamaru and Little Mac. It's not that hard to guess good characters. This board in particular stretches the characters they want pretty far, beyond pillars and into supporting cast characters, but if you sit down and actually think about what Smash Bros NEEDS and what is popular there really is only so many characters left.
I got Villager, Megaman, Rosalina, and Little Mac right and I don't have inside information. Just sayin'. It's possible.
Yet where are the leaks like this one? It's so easy yet there's only one rumor like this. It's easy to say after the fact why something is guessable. Once you see it of course it makes sense. But many people aren't that creative. And if they are they go overboard and ruin it.

The problem is people aren't looking at the entire picture. They say, "Oh I could have guessed that". While that may be true (wtf? Nah. Probably not) they also would have added about 4 other crazy characters. It's not just about what he has, it's also about what he doesn't have.

Secondly I'd like to see an unedited post of someone claiming Wii fit Trainer before Sal as a wanted character along with some of these other guys.

Deconfirmed leak=/=Deconfirmed characters
Pacman and Mii fans, his prediction was only half correct. This does not make it a live leak. This is how things get deconfirmed. If we start thinking hypothetically, nothing is deconfirmed.
The (prediction, not leak) was wrong, so it belongs where it is, regardless of those characters getting in.
If Honey Queen was a 7th character on that list nobody would be talking about it, c'mon.

4 of 6 possible characters and one is probably in with the multiple stages shown like Wii Resort (Pilot Wings) and the DS level that means Miis are in someway represented and most probable playable and finally Pac-Man with the whole Namco helping and developing the game is clear that right now is the closest to a third party to have a character in Smash specially a legend like Pac-Man, so in reality you can say whatever but for now I consider the leak 70% true.

Of course, I'm fully expecting Pac-Man, but not because of that leak. It's easy to have Mega Man and Pac-Man taking Sonic and Snake's respective places, third party who got in because of sheer fan request, and third party who got in because of a request. It's simply a matter of switching places, Snake got in first because of a request from Kojima, then Sonic got in because his demand shot up after Snake's reveal. Mega Man gets in because of requests right from the beginning, and Pac-Man is added at the end as a thank you to Namco from Sakurai.

The only reason to be severely doubtful of Miis is because of pure redundancy, Villager fulfills the role of customize-able avatar character who does a bunch of crazy things for a moveset, and also caters to casual fans. Miss Fit fills the role of surprise character that also caters to casual fans, and also happens to be a bland slate of a character, as evidenced by the gender swap costume. If anything, Villager might be able to wear a Mii mask, like he can in his own games, which just further makes the Miis even more pointless. We know that Sakurai is going for very unique additions this time, and the Miis just defeat that purpose completely.

And if you truly need to check for bias here, I'd actually like to see Pac-Man, and I don't care about the Miis either way, so I have nothing to gain by fighting the leak.

I think it's difficult to deny Miis being Nintendo All-Stars, even though I don't think many support the idea of Miis. Given that they've been everywhere since 2007, I think the only thing stopping them from getting in at this point is Iwata's Mii Rules that he talked about during Wii Party's development.

It has been more Nintendo-oriented as of late, but so have many other franchises not only in Capcom but also from other companies that have stronger ties with Nintendo that could be represented. There's really no reason to oversaturate the roster with another Capcom character, especially considering that the producers of MH are heavily reluctant to add their characters to fighting games and Sakurai has spoken out against adding too many third parties to the rosters.

People say that it's hard to guess so many characters, but really it's not. How many characters are there to choose from? Even Sakurai said before this game, there really weren't many in his mind left. So considering that, if you sit down and actually THINK about characters that have certain strengths, add in that other characters can now be represented by Assist Trophies, strip away emotional ties to characters, how many characters do we have left? I knew what he said about Villager and I still considered him because unless he went back to retros (who are the only logical retros left? Mach Rider? Takamaru?) what new heroes do we have? Shulk and Isaac at most and he's not even new really, just had a recent game to refer casuals to. Then we have Dillon and that HarmoKnight guy, but they could easily be assist trophies, as they have no history and their depth is debatable.

A lot of people seem content with stuffing the roster with background characters from franchises that already have their pillars included. Even then what would be the point besides pleasing a few sub-fans of Mario, Zelda etc? As I said before, at least with new franchises, the dev team has A LOT more to explore, more music, more references, more assist trophies etc. SSB4 is turning out to be a fine game, and the roster is clearly the focus this time. I see the quality in characters choices and mechanics, a lot of peple can't see beyond "I want this character" and that is a shame.

For give me if this has been shot down, insufficient or not (hard to find the answer in a 350+ page thread)

But didn't Sakurai state in a Famitsu artical that Dixie was meant to be Tag-team character for Brawl?

I remember seeing this thread a while back: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=144627

Does it make it any less true though? If your whole argument against this leak is that it could be done or it's not that hard to predict then you really don't have an argument. I will echo your last sentence though. On that we can agree.

That E3 leak is fake, it wasn't even spot on. People think he had inside information because he guessed Wii Fit Trainer, he had to know because he got the name correct right? Yet he called Villager "Animal Crossing guy." If he had inside information, he would have known the name. This leak is already blown out of the water by Mac himself, since the leaker said that they would all be shown at E3, regardless of if he meant that very E3, or half there and half at the next, the fact is that Little Mac was not shown at any E3.

You know how simple it was for this guy? Pick two highly requested characters, Mega Man and Little Mac, already two for the money. Pick two "questionable but reasonable" characters, Villager and Pac-Man, Villager because Sakurai dismissed him previously, and Pac-Man because of Namco's involvement. Then the last two, one character completely out of left field and one that no one is going to like. It's not like he couldn't have guessed Miss Fit, you may think that no one in their right mind would have predicted that, but if you're intentionally trying to pick a character that no one thought of, then that's exactly what you're going to get. If Sakurai himself thought of the idea, then why on earth would no single other person be able to think of it? Miis are just the icing on the cake that makes it ridiculously pointless.
What you are failing to take into account is human error and the Chinese whispers effect.

The original source could have given some character info to an intermediate party who had limited knowledge of Nintendo games. The intermediate party translated the info over to the journalist/leaker according to his limited understanding and fallible human memory.

In my opinion that is a much more likely explanation than guessing two characters who were believed to have no chance or were not even thought of as a possibility yet (WFT and Villager) as well as two more equalling 4/6 thus far.
This also shows why the leak CAN NOT be disregarded as entirely false.

It's not really the amount of character predicated but the characters that were predicated. Specifically WFT, yes it is possible that someone just guessed her but guessing a character like WFT is similar to getting struck by lighting or winning the lottery. If the prediction would have just contained Little Mac, Megman, Villager, Pacman and Mii I guarantee you none of us would even be talking about it right now. There may predictions out there that contain those characters, hell since before brawl was released people were asking for Pacman and Megaman. Now if Rosalina was in there as well, no doubt about it, he had inside info, but these guys are not uncommon, it's just WFT. It really only boils down to weather or not you WANT to believe that it was a leak or not, cause even if they do reveal Pacman and Mii those characters are not exactly uncommon predictions, and the doubters will simply say that Sal hit that one in a million shot.

People are acting like Nintendo has 20,000 potential characters with games of good sales. WFT isn't as insane as winning the lottery. There is a huge difference. Even guessing all four isn't as insane unless there are tons of potenial characters. I'd say like a 1 in 1000 chance of getting those 4 right. But considering the tons of character requests, I'm sure there are more than that.

I'm just unsure of his credibility.
Why didn't he just say "I have possibly leaked information from a secret source" in the first place?
Why call them unlikely predictions if he thought it was likely enough to post and they weren't his predictions?
Also: he posted at 06-10-2013, 07:01 AM, seems a bit late for a complete change (cutting the amount of reveals/gameplay/footage/trailers in half), doesn't it?

I honestly believe that the Gaf rumor is real at this point. If you think about it, the only character revealed in the official trailer was Villager, with Mega Man and WFT having their own separate trailers. Now this is just a guess, but I'm thinking if the leaker was tipped off and it wasn't just some guess, that the leaker's source gave him a list of characters that could potentially be revealed at e3 (as in Nintendo had their trailers ready but didn't end up showing all of them) and the leaker may have assumed that all 6 were going to be shown.

Also, I'm not sure if I'm the only one who noticed this, but I think the reason we got Mac today over some DK character might be because this February is the 30th anniversary of the original Punch-Out!! Arcade game.

I've already taken this into account as well, I'd think that he could have heard half of them and then slapped on the other half himself.

I'm merely presenting the fact that it is possible to guess the characters. There's a user here who claims to have guessed Miss Fit and Villager, but not Mega Man.

Even then, you could combine these two theories in a sort of way, a lot of people here say one person couldn't have guessed all these characters, but what if it was more than one person throwing around ideas and ultimately letting one guy step up to "leak" the info? I can't say what happened, I'm just throwing up theories.

Imagine if you were a journalist and people were giving you tips. But you have no idea of the credibility of these sources. You don't want to ruin your credibility as a journalist by posting it as fact (this could be career damaging). But you want to be involved in the Smash Bros community discussion.

What do you do?
That's right, exactly what he does.
When he thinks there's a reasonable chance they might have credibility, he posts them with disclaimers that he doesn't know the credibility of the source and puts his own opinion about how likely the leaks sound to him.

Even if there were other guesses for WFT out there, the count would obviously be too miniscule to matter at all, regardless. Saying that someone could've guessed WFT if they thought hard enough is just plain incorrect
This. I've been saying prepare for Mac, Pac, and Mii since the leak predicted the unguessable WII FIT TRAINER. But people had some legitimate arguments against it because the leak said they'd all be shown at E3 and they weren't...

Now that Mac has been announced... it's becoming impossible for me to see the oppositions view point as anything beyond simply not wanting Mii and Pac-Man. it's going to happen prepare for it.

Does it make it any less true though? If your whole argument against this leak is that it could be done or it's not that hard to predict then you really don't have an argument. I will echo your last sentence though. On that we can agree.
Oh I think the leak is true just because of WFT, but I'm arguing against people who think it's hard to guess those other characters. No it's not, unless you honestly think a huge bulk of the wanted characters listed in sigs and around various forums are that likely. They seriously aren't.

Hang on, let's back up to December, after Rosalina's reveal.

Remember when all of the delusional skeptics were talking about how, if the leak were true, Little Mac and the other two would be the obvious next characters to get trailers, because of some mumbo-jumbo about how them being leaked means they were in the furthest stage of completion, or were prioritized over everyone else, or some s*** like that?

What happened to that now? Rosalina got her promotional reveal, now the trailers have started playing out exactly how you all say they should if we were "critical thinkers" or whatever...and yet you're still whining about how blatantly false and coincidental the leak is anyways. Tsk tsk.

On the e3 guy, When did he double back and say it was a leak? Because if it was after the reveal then it is almost certainly completely dead.

Mac's reveal does nothing for proving or disproving the E3 leak.

I myself expected Megaman and Little Mac to be in Smash 4 beyond the shadow of a doubt. Both were popular requests, with Mega Man being Nintendo's only way to rival Snake hype at E3 and Little Mac a much-requested AT from Brawl. Pac-Man is an obvious Namco rep, especially given his appearance in Mario Kart. "Animal Crossing guy" is an obvious pick given the recent popularity of New Leaf and the general size and popularity of the AC series. Nintendo shoves Miis into everything, so of course Mii is a likely inclusion.

The failure to predict the E3 reveals accurately, as well as the failure to predict Rosalina, should have killed this leak a long time ago.

I imagine when Mii and Pac-Man are revealed the non-believers will just be 'hurr hurr, it was lucky guessing'

Yes, that's exactly what I would say. The leak predicted reveals AT E3, not general inclusion. Therefore, as the leak did not meet its own claims, I do not and will not believe it.
