They're just playing a silly game because of ****e wording. It's the only leak we've had that is a legitimate one, and because of wording, it's being thrown away. Yes, not all of the characters were shown at E3, but that doesn't make the leak of said characters not true. It's so obvious that someone legitimately leaked information, and Little Mac only furthers that. There's a good chance he just threw out all the names of current characters that were being worked on. Which would make sense why he leaked two 3rd parties first. I'd imagine those would be the first characters to get figured out.Am I the only one who thinks that the Neogaf E3 Unknown Leaker (6/10/13) actually has a lot of credibility due to the fact that Little Mac was revealed?
If anything, this reveal adds further evidence that it's fake. This fact AND the fact that the Sal Romano leak has correctly predicted 4 newcomers is why I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. No other text leak deserves such treatment because they aren't surrounded by extenuating circumstances AND credibility.
Given that the villager is already a pretty much an avatar character, it would seem kind of redundant to include the Mii. Plus it's likely the villager will be customizable in both gender and appearance.NEW INFORMATION
So I've been asked a few times to ask our source about the leaky three (and after todays reveal, I definitely had to know myself) and this is what I've been told. "Don't get excited just because Mac was revealed. From what I hear Mii isn't going to make it in at all. Pacman is still on the fence"
Also asked how he could still be on the fence if they already have the roster done (at least I'm sure it is?). He said Pacman was already finished by the sounds of it but they changed him out because he was too simple. Maybe if they think of something clever he can get in? Who knows, but at the very least it doesn't sound like Mii is getting in.
I wouldn't blame ya. And I choose to believe inIf this "Monster Hunter Slime" leak is true, I'm not buying this game. :D
And we all know it isn't. C'mon. Seriously. Monster Hunter, as a character, is hardly "legendary".
I am mostly with N3ON on this, even if all of them are in, it was still probably just a lucky guess that someone turned around and tried to pass off as a leak. They're just playing a silly game because of ****e wording. If you knew how crazy it was to PREDICT Miss Fit and Villager prior to them actually being revealed you wouldn't call it a lucky guess. Let alone predicting two other characters. You don't predict someone Sakurai says isn't fit for Smash, and you definitely don't predict a character never even brought up prior to being revealed.I am mostly with N3ON on this, even if all of them are in, it was still probably just a lucky guess that someone turned around and tried to pass off as a leak.
Let me try to explain this better if my last post didn't do it well enough for you. There is no way someone just "guessed" Wii Fit Trainer, let alone two other characters that did show up that same day -- never mind the fact most of us thought Villager was disconfirmed from ever being in playable contention. Obviously the person was wrong about the other half showing up the week of E3, but considering how each character's trailer is its own reveal, it wouldn't be too hard to hold off three characters for a later day the way it is now. We have Mac, Mii's look at least possible given how we have two stages on both games that revolve around Miis; so the only one really up in the air is Pac-Man. Make of it what you will.
There were quite literally hundreds of people, if not close to thousands, making predictions. Some wishlists. Some analytic predictions. Some wild and random guesses. This coupled with fact that the roster was already drawing from a finite list of characters means that it WAS probable that someone, somewhere would guess somewhat correctly. If you knew how crazy it was to PREDICT Miss Fit and Villager prior to them actually being revealed you wouldn't call it a lucky guess. Yeah sure, I can get that. Someone can guess Wii Fit Trainer. Thats totally plausible. There were quite literally hundreds of people, if not close to thousands, making predictions. Some wishlists. So no, despite the apparent long odds that a single individual would guess those characters accurately, the sheer number of people making predictions more than offsets it.
You can guess something months in advance, it's not hard at all to just I dunno, wait until before E3 to say it. You know, like throwing a surprise party.Yeah sure, I can get that. Someone can guess Wii Fit Trainer. Thats totally plausible.
But to guess exactly all three characters, RIGHT before E3?
Come on now.
The other two weren't exactly hard to predict. Everybody was making wish lists back then. It's perfectly possible that somebody got a few right.Yeah sure, I can get that. Someone can guess Wii Fit Trainer. Thats totally plausible.

If all six characters had been revealed then, that would have been one thing, but they were not. Also the timing means nothing.Yeah sure, I can get that. Someone can guess Wii Fit Trainer. Thats totally plausible.

You mean all 6 right? OH WAIT!Yeah sure, I can get that. Someone can guess Wii Fit Trainer. Thats totally plausible.

This sounds like a lot of explaining and normally, according to Occam's Razor, the simplest answer is the best. Considering how obscure Villager and WFT were and the fact that Little Mac has now been confirmed, the leak sounds as plausible as ever. Honestly, stop trying to deny it. You claim that he was intentionally trying to pick an obscure character and somehow landed on WFT... that sounds even more outlandish than the leak in question. You pick apart the leak as if it were some math equation, when it was the most simple form of a leak beside Palutena, yet we have ten other leaks on this topic that are way more detailed and clearly phony. Give it a rest, Mii and Pac Man are in the gameThat E3 leak is fake, it wasn't even spot on. People think he had inside information because he guessed Wii Fit Trainer, he had to know because he got the name correct right? Yet he called Villager "Animal Crossing guy." If he had inside information, he would have known the name. This leak is already blown out of the water by Mac himself, since the leaker said that they would all be shown at E3, regardless of if he meant that very E3, or half there and half at the next, the fact is that Little Mac was not shown at any E3.
You know how simple it was for this guy? Pick two highly requested characters, Mega Man and Little Mac, already two for the money. Pick two "questionable but reasonable" characters, Villager and Pac-Man, Villager because Sakurai dismissed him previously, and Pac-Man because of Namco's involvement. Then the last two, one character completely out of left field and one that no one is going to like. It's not like he couldn't have guessed Miss Fit, you may think that no one in their right mind would have predicted that, but if you're intentionally trying to pick a character that no one thought of, then that's exactly what you're going to get. If Sakurai himself thought of the idea, then why on earth would no single other person be able to think of it? Miis are just the icing on the cake that makes it ridiculously pointless.

My bad...I must have copied too much when I pasted it into pastebin.Uh, I found this inside the original post of the Jumpman Leak:
Uh... DEAD.
To be honest, someone asked me who I was expecting to be in a few days before the E3 trailer and I said Mega Man, Animal Crossing Guy, Takamaru and Little Mac. It's not that hard to guess good characters. This board in particular stretches the characters they want pretty far, beyond pillars and into supporting cast characters, but if you sit down and actually think about what Smash Bros NEEDS and what is popular there really is only so many characters left.Doesn't seem that adamant to me:

You say no one is going to forget the rumor (so why change it's status) and yet the very next line you say no one cared about it before little mac. Ignoring the fact that the first statement doesn't follow logic -- the two statements together are at odds ...with themselves and reality.
The status of the rumor actually did confuse me. I'm sure I commented on it in the past ... and the Sal Romano leak is the reason why I re-activated my Smashboards account. IIRC there was a discussion going on about this rumor and many people didn't know the details surrounding it or were just spreading misinformation, albeit innocently. A user is actually doing it now just a few posts above me. If you look at my very first post I try to clear up information regarding that leak and the user Sal Romano (who happens to be registered here). So people did care about the leak and consistently talked about it, heck we all still do and have way before today's reveal. People care even more because it seems to be gaining credibility.
It is the only rumor to be gaining credibility so why be rigid for rigid's sake? Usually rumors lose credibility as time passes not the other way around. Leaving it in the debunked area is only a loss. If it turns out to be true and the leak is in the debunked area this site (and the mods) have lost credibility. On the other hand if you put it in a new area with a few disclaimers, not only have you appeased the members but if the roster was correctly predicted it just lends to your credibility and sound judgement. If false you have appeased the members and lost absolutely nothing. Your credibility is still intact. You have everything to gain by changing its status and everything to lose by avoiding doing so. No one is saying to consider it confirmed. That would be silly and presumptuous.
It's not about how easy it is to guess one singular character (i.e. Little Mac), it's about the probability of getting all of them correct (Don't forget 3/6 for e3) without one single character being wrong. Many leaks on the first page simply guess one character but are debunked due to other extremely rigid predictions. I would not consider an E3 reveal date to be a rigid prediction for revealed info since we have seen many times in the past Nintendo opts to change plans in regards to that event. Not only Nintendo but just about every game development company to ever exist has changed their e3 plans at one time or another. If you like I can pull articles surrounding how often companies call an e3 audible. Why do they change their plans? Rival companies are often taken into consideration. How much of a reaction is another company getting? What is the press interested in? Have we shown enough? If so, can we save some of this information for other events? Commonly though, the product just isn't ready to show. Again I can pull many articles citing this. We know without a doubt, it's extremely common for E3 plans to change since it's such a hectic event.
This fact AND the fact that the Sal Romano leak has correctly predicted 4 newcomers is why I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. No other text leak deserves such treatment because they aren't surrounded by extenuating circumstances AND credibility.
Guessing one newcomer is easy. Two and you're lucky. Three is difficult, but four newcomers?
In any case you've made your decision and it's clear nothing I or anyone else says on the matter will change your mind. It just seems really odd that the one leak that's most likely legitimate is in the same category as a rumor that says Little Mac and Rosalina are assist trophies. It's not like it would be hurting anyone or the site's reputation to change the status of the Sal Romano leak.
Again, I don't really see the point in being rigid for rigid's sake. It seems like a good way to dismiss legitimate rosters and confuse people who are reading the OP.
Anybody could have came up with WFT, if they thought hard enough. Leakers have nothing to lose, and can guess anything. People can get lucky believe it or not. Tons of people have been coming up with lists, atleast one can get lucky. Besides, Little Mac's reveal can really help or hinder this leak. On one hand he was revealed, but on the other, it wasn't in E3.This sounds like a lot of explaining and normally, according to Occam's Razor, the simplest answer is the best. Considering how obscure Villager and WFT were and the fact that Little Mac has now been confirmed, the leak sounds as plausible as ever. Honestly, stop trying to deny it. In a NeoGAF roster contest of 120 users, many of which posted the most bizarre characters they could think of for kicks and giggles, not one user posted Wii Fit Trainer in their roster. Absolutely 0%. And although anecdotal, in all my time following various Super Smash Bros boards, I never once saw Wii Fit Trainer brought up prior to last E3, and I've privy to a lot of discussion. Then there is Villager, a character we were told by Sakurai could not work as a fighter, and we took his word at face value. Choosing to call him "Animal Crossing guy" is not indicative either way of the validity of truthfulness of his statement, because the content matched up with what he said. Then there is Mega Man, a character who was not a shoo-in by any means. There was a lot of debate, ask SmashChu, about whether there would even be guest characters in this game; and a lot of people were not sure how the Capcom/Mega Man dynamic would play out. It's easy to sit there and make all these claims in hindsight about how "obvious" something was or should have been, but the fact of the matter is 4/6 characters the original GAFfer mentioned are now playable, and there enough indications that Miis are next in line as well. Choose to reject the "Leaky 3" if you want, that's entirely up to you; but don't make it sound like this was some easy roll of the die. It wasn't.Let me try to explain this better if my last post didn't do it well enough for you.
If you intentionally try to think of a character no one has though of, what will you get? How do you think Sakurai did it? He said that he chose Miss Fit because no one asked for her. Now I'd imagine it's hard to fathom the average gamer would even know about her, hell, no one here thought of her even though a lot of us intentionally try to think of such characters. But is it impossible to think of her? Obviously her being in the game is blatant proof against that as Sakurai did.
Take a look at Wii Fit's sales: "As of January 4, 2009, it has sold 3,125,000 copies in Japan." And this is from a long time ago, and just counting Japan. Obviously people knew about her, and you may think "well just moms and grandmas and fitness nuts bought it." Think for a moment, why anyone's mother would have a Wii in the first place, because they have kids, and said kids might play, oh I dunno, Brawl on that Wii? Combine Smash fan who's trying to think of an obscure character + health nut mom who plays Wii Fit and you get the possibility of, surprise surprise, Wii Fit Trainer. Sakurai isn't the only person in the world who thought of it.
As I already said before as well, Mega Man and Little Mac were the two "shoe-ins" that had high requests, how would he go about such obvious guesses? Well one's a third party character, so you'd better believe there's priority there. And if you've seen Brawl's trailer, you know there's a possibility of *insert surprise guest character* at the very end. Flip around Snake and Sonic's positions, you get the most requested character showing up in the first trailer. And Little Mac? Just go for that one popular Nintendo character that isn't King K. Rool or Ridley, he went for the underdog and Little Mac fit that bill.
Villager now? Alright, we already know that Sakurai is very fickle with his "words of god." And even despite that fact, again, if you're trying to pick a character that everyone will dismiss, go for one that the creator himself dismissed. Add onto that the fact that Animal Crossing is a very successful franchise for Nintendo, just like Wii Fit is now, why wouldn't he add him? Plus, as I said, the "leaker" called him "Animal Crossing guy," if he had legit info, he would have known his name.
And then there's Pac-Man, who people were already predicting as soon as we found out Namco was working on the game, that's already self-explanatory enough.
Now for the Miis, how to make a leak really legit? Copy the last leaker who was actually right and pull another R.O.B. Intentionally put one character people will hate, yet at the same time they'll think it's real because "oh woe is me, it happened last time so it has to happen again." Simple isn't it?
You may think that the odds are against this, and obviously it is, but think about the fact that there are millions of people who play Smash Bros. You might keep buying lottery tickets, and you might never win the lottery once in your life, but remember that someone always is winning that lottery.
So you're saying every single person besides him didn't think hard enough to guess wii fit trainer before e3, Along with him getting 3 other newcomers right?Anybody could have came up with WFT, if they thought hard enough. Besides, Little Mac's reveal can really help or hinder this leak. On one hand he was revealed, but on the other, it wasn't in E3.
Pacman might not get in, despite the fact that the wheeling and dealings and legal precedings must have already happened for them to even attempt such a thing? Sorry man, you shouldn't have said anything more. You got lucky with Diddy not being real, thus giving you credibility, but you blew it by not keeping your mouth closed. These fountain of information leaks are always highly questionable, but this is simply too much.NEW INFORMATION
You all are ignoring the fact all 6 characters were supposed to be announced at E3. Only three of them were announced. You could argue that maybe Nintendo changed their mind and decided to wait until later to reveal the remaining 3. However, if you believe this then you must also accept the fact that Nintendo could also change their mind about revealing some of these characters altogether and decide to scrap them instead. This sounds like a lot of explaining and normally, according to Occam's Razor, the simplest answer is the best. Considering how obscure Villager and WFT were and the fact that Little Mac has now been confirmed, the leak sounds as plausible as ever. Honestly, stop trying to deny it. Also, why is the GaeozHero leak not debunked yet? It painfully obvious that we will be getting no such Tetris character this month. At the rate this thread is going, I think I could sell the Brooklyn Bridge to a number of people here
Critical thinking skills? You mean like the critical thinking that created this phony thread in the first place? Giving attention to random internet users who make up leaks at the dinner table? If anything, this reveal adds further evidence that it's fake.
First, if Sol was telling the truth, where would he get the info. His source would likely be a part of the E3 staff and not a part of the development staff. It can't be the latter because, were it so, he would have had information that was all overe the place and not specifically for E3. He said the reveals were at E3, so we can assume it's the former.
Now, with Little Mac shown, we can see that all the Smash references on that stage have been swaps for Punch-Out references. The original rumor says that Mac was to be shown at E3. He latter recanted and said they were pushed back. but if that was the case, why did the stage change? The stage is an asset developed in the game and not one just used for promotion. Before, it was made in such a way as to not allude to Little Mac's presence in the game. If Sol is telling the truth, the E3 showing had to be planned and the staff later changed their mind. But if Little Mac was to be shown, why hide that it's a Punch-Out stage. The fact that they hid it in the first place suggest that Little Mac was never planned at all.
No one doubted Little Mac was going to be in. Him predicting it would be the same as if he predicted that stages were going to be in. The rumor has been a hoax from the beginning. It was a lucky guess that he rid with. I don't know why anyone believes it when he said it was a leak AFTER he had some of them right. Kids these days really lack critical thinking skills.
Right, it appears to me that users have been working overtime to discredit the leak, for what reason, I don't know. One thing is certain: if anyone is willing to give any of these other leaks a second thought while denying the likeliness of the E3 leak, there is some other agendaIn a NeoGAF roster contest of 120 users, many of which posted the most bizarre characters they could think of for kicks and giggles, not one user posted Wii Fit Trainer in their roster. I never said Mega Man was a "shoe-in", I said it's incredibly easy to pick the most requested character. Note how "shoe-in" was in quotation marks, he was "obvious" because he was the single most requested character. And don't say being heavily requested doesn't mean anything because Sonic the Hedgehog. In a NeoGAF roster contest of 120 users, many of which posted the most bizarre characters they could think of for kicks and giggles, not one posted Wii Fit Trainer. It wasn't easy to get lucky. But what do they have to lose? Really? They can guess anything they want, and they can get lucky. It's possible to get lucky. So when 3 characters weren't revealed of the leaky 6, people just claimed that the others were for 2014's E3. That's ridiculous enough. If they were characters nobody wanted, we wouldn't be discussing this, and you know that is true. Moving on, once Little Mac was confirmed in a non E3 reveal, people ENTIRELY ignore the E3 thing, or just says that it didn't mean ALL the characters would be in E3 reveals, which it clearly says. WFT just got Wii Fit U, so hey, it was possible! She could even be said to be compared to the likes of Lip! You can guess! In a NeoGAF roster contest of 120 users, many of which posted the most bizarre characters they could think of for kicks and giggles, not one posted Wii Fit Trainer. Hey guy, it's one thing to have a disagreement, but let's not get too crazy.Critical thinking skills? You mean like the critical thinking that created this phony thread in the first place? Giving attention to random internet users who make up leaks at the dinner table?
People keep clinging to the argument that since they weren't shown at E3, the leak is fake. Judging by the reveal trailer, its obvious the only character that was guaranteed to be shown was Villager. Or are you forgetting the Mega Man an WFT videos were totally separate videos? Perhaps they were thinking of which video to use out of the six characters?
Critical thinking, ahahahahahahaha
I'm not sure I get what you're saying,It wasn't easy to get lucky. But what do they have to lose? Really? They can guess anything they want, and they can get lucky. It's possible to get lucky. I think you are disproving your own argument. The odds are totally against the characters he had chosen and the odds of getting them right are worse. If everyone has a thick skull for not understanding , the same can be said for you being in denial. It takes a lot of explaining because people won't accept the simple answer through their thick skulls.
Two heavy hitters.
Two curveballs.
Two obvious yet unrequested characters.
You think I'm trying too hard to disprove this leak? Some people try too hard to make leaks. There's also the possibility of them not having to even try, like I said, if your mum is playing Wii Fit in front of you, you're going to know who, or at least what the Wii Fit Trainer is.
This sounds like you have an ax to grind with the possibility of Mii being a playable characterEither way, we'll know who's right once Miis are or aren't in the game.
Be honest. Do you not think that Nintendo could have been deciding which character video to showcase, which lead to the multiple possibilities in the leak?Hey guy, it's one thing to have a disagreement, but let's not get too crazy.
Like it's impossible to guess 3 characters.I'm not sure I get what you're saying,
Are you saying the leak is fake because people have the ability to guess correctly? Or just that it could have been possible to guess all three correctly.
Cause we know every single character request and leaks. Everyone. So you're saying every single person besides him didn't think hard enough to guess wii fit trainer before e3, Along with him getting 3 other newcomers right?
lol okay
The Mii is a redundant character. We already have the villager who is already an avatar character and will likely be customizable in both gender and appearance. This sounds like you have an ax to grind with the possibility of Mii being a playable character
Yeah, I think he just blew his cover as well. Some wise guy user could have easily made an alternate account here, just to derp around.Pacman might not get in, despite the fact that the wheeling and dealings and legal precedings must have already happened for them to even attempt such a thing? Sorry man, you shouldn't have said anything more. You got lucky with Diddy not being real, thus giving you credibility, but you blew it by not keeping your mouth closed. These fountain of information leaks are always highly questionable, but this is simply too much.
It is near impossible to guess three characters.Like it's impossible to guess 3 characters.
What?Cause we know every single character request and leaks. Everyone.
The truth comes outThe Mii is a redundant character. We already have the villager who is already an avatar character and will likely be customizable in both gender and appearance.
I got Villager, Megaman, Rosalina, and Little Mac right and I don't have inside information. Just sayin'. It's possible.Doesn't seem that adamant to me:
