I have a rotating list of mains/secondaries.

As it stands now:

:4ness: :4robinm: :4olimar: / :4luigi: :4mewtwo::4megaman:

Within a day, I'll play one main and the corresponding compliment secondary. For instance, Ness/Luigi. Mewtwo's the odd Mon' out for now. I'm not sure who he'll compliment.

I actually tend to switch "mains" a lot... it's hard for me to decide on one character so I just don't main anyone and play all the characters I like in Smash 4. I have like zero character loyalty.
More or less what I'm curious about, given the boom of people on this board here solely for new character hype.

But then again the MM board has spoiled me in terms of productive discussion and overall activity. Either way this board will probably take an extra while before things become centralized/board culture develops given the two week release gap.

I want to brag about this board to the other Staff members like I can do with Mega Man.

When I feel like I HAVE to win, I go with Pit. If I'm getting rolled, I turn to my pocket Dedede, because I feel I know enough to read my opponent, and so many people underestimate the big penguin.
I like Shulk, but I'm not comfortable enough with him to main him in tourneys.
Not bad with Marth or Sheik.

I play like 10 characters right now, but I wouldn't say I main any, I don't feel my skill with any character is up to par to what I could be if I mained one char. Unfortunately since the day Mewtwo was announced I just haven't been able to main anyone.

Hey guys, just joined the boards yesterday and was curious about the Mewtwo hype building so I've just silently read like the last 10 pages just to get a feel for the forum life.
As a person who had minimal experience with Mewtwo in melee, I'm pretty hype to get to use him (albeit on the 28th). As a 3ds competitive player (don't own a Wii-U), learning how Mewtwo affects the meta is going to be pretty interesting imo.
Since we're also on the topic, I co-main Fox and Luigi with a secondary Pit.

My main character currently is Pikachu. I've used him in pretty much every Smash game since 64. He's my main at the moment, but of course he'll be my secondary once Mewtwo is out.

Ok, so I basically am going to co main 4 characters.
Lucina: Yes I picked Lucina over Marth, not because I have troubles with tippers, but I feel she flows better for me. Consistency and all around balance.
Meta Knight: Him being nerfed means I can feel free to spread my wings... :3 and play him without being attacked (Brawl days). He's speedy and rather tricky to pick up, but a very good character nonetheless.
Mewtwo: Well, if he's like Melee, I'll like playing him again. He always felt more technical and mind gamey. I feel like the other 5 could each add something unique and helpful, but who to chose is incredibly difficult.
As for recolors, I have lately stuck with default mostly. If I change though, it's usually these:
Lucina: Cordelia or Tiki.
Meta Knight: Dark Blue. (Although I like all of them...excluding the pink one).
Mewtwo: Bluetwo (:3).
Robin: Default (Male and Female) or Blue (actually almost exactly the same as my avatar in awakening).
Rosalina & Luma: Gold, Red, or Black.
Sonic: Black, Gold, Silver, or Light Blue.
Lucario: Light Blue or Gray (Grey? Gray? Eh, details. :p).
Greninja: Red or Purple.

Final thing I want to have to say on this matter
How many Mario characters are left? Waluigi, Toad, Fawful and Daisy.
Zelda: Impa as she's the only character who'd return in the franchise if the previous Zelda games are any indication
Pokemon: 706 of these guys aren't playable
Kirby: Bandana Dee, Adeliene, Galacta Knight, the animal friends, Gooey, etc
F-Zero: Pretty much everyone
FE: Pretty much everyone
Wario: All Warioware characters and Captain Syrup
DK: Dixie, K.Rool, Cranky and Lord Frederick
Metroid: Ridley, Dark Samus and 8 hunters
Don't forget Tetra and Toon Zelda for the Zelda series. Not sure if Animal Crossing would count on this list, but Tom Nook could be a candidate.

It's all good, the hype is more than appropriate. As I've stated in my introduction, I'm a competitive tournament player (won 2 of the last 3 50ish-player locals I've entered), so if anyone else isn't into that, I hope you guys don't mind the topic suggestions I bring up.
I digress though, what stages do you think the oh so great Mewtwo would benefit from? And how light do you think he's going to be?
Town and City and Battlefield could be good if his U-Smash reaches the second level platform for the latter. I'm hoping he's also not lighter than Peach again...
*shivers*
Somewhere near Sonic would be ideal for me.

I don't know. I'm a little concerned that some of his moves, namely his f- throw, are animated so that he looks even floatier. And the trailer doesn't indicate if Shadow Ball still has the insane recoil.
I'm hoping his weight is increased to match his size and lore.

Midweight like the Pits is fine for me. They're pretty much the midpoint in the weight rankings list.

As for what stages he benefits from, Halberd might be decent if his insane U-Throw is back. Say hello to vertical KOs at like 70% from a grab. The tail disjoints (all tails are disjointed in Smash 4 unlike Melee where it was a hurtbox) could help for platform spacing/camping. Fair killed off the top too iirc which is another reason to have a low ceiling.

Of course, if he's light and floaty, this could all backfire too.

Time for controversial opinion! Which characters DON'T you want to see? Don't say why and don't feel offended if a character you like is there
Waluigi, Daisy, Chrom and Chorus Boys
Edit: Adam Malkovich
Tingle, Weedle, Ice Climbers (I want people to have their mains back, but I don't wanna fight them :c), Slippy Toad, Shaq, Goomba, Master Chief, anyone from Call of Duty...

Sorry that I'm replying to your posts so much btw. I'm trying to catch up with the thread and it just happens to be you proposing the questions lol.

I can deal with floaty to an extent(Pit, Luigi whenever I accidentally FH, Ness), but when the floatiness disagrees with the character model i.e. Samus, it just messes with me.

Floaty can lead to a fun playstyle (Jigglypuff!), but Mewtwo does not strike me at all as both a light and floaty character. I desperately hope that either his weight or speed increased.

Pretty much exactly this, haha.

How do you guys think Mewtwo is going to be on Omega stages? My buddies tend to play on Omega stages a lot (note that they're pretty competitive but they like Omega stages mainly because of the music) so I'm a bit curious. I also play For Glory a lot too so it's important for me.

Mewtwo objectively has a better vertical game, and is probably going to have a poor approach. Platforms all the way IMO, tail & Confusion shenanigans.

In hindsight, FD is very polarizing, which is probably why Smashville has become the competitive stage of choice since Brawl. Not sure about 64/Melee but it wouldn't surprise me if Dream Land/FoD have similar reasonings.

I'm probably the only one, but the armor looked weird to me in PM, however I do like the idea. In sm4sh though, I'm definitely using the blue and the cyan looking alt. the most.

We should all vote for HD FoD in the ballot. By FAR my favorite stage in any smash game. Just the combination of the stage itself, the look, and the music.....*kreygasm*

Against rush down characters like Fox or Falcon, I can't imagine he'd be comfortable.

We've only seen, what- five or six colors? There's still the possibility.
EDIT: :4greninja:'d.

Rushdown characters, by their very nature, have to get in range of Confusion and Disable. I can't imagine they'll be comfortable with that. ;)

There's default, Cyan (probably green), Blue, Orange, Shadow Mewtwo, and most likely he'll have a Yellow coloration, so unless I forgot one, he should have two more.
A Mew coloration wouldn't be bad, and if the orange one is just "orange", he'll have a red coloration of some sort.

A few pages back, I saw someone lump Pit, Link, Marth, Ike, and Shulk together because they all fight with blades. I find that ridiculous for so many reasons.

Pit's blade attacks are either speedy or multi-hit.
Marth's blade attacks are specialized for spacing.
Link's blade attacks are hefty and powerful.
Ike's blade is slow, but very powerful.
Shulk's attacks come out slow, but have incredible range.

I'd say that the most similar when it comes to their blades are Link and Ike, but even then, Link has projectiles he can lean on as well, so the two characters are still completely different.

Anyway, as for my mains...
:4charizard:Charizard is my #1 guy. I don't care if he's low tier or anything, I'm passionate about the character and I like the way he plays. Besides, underdogs rule. I'm really proud of using a "bad" character, especially when I managed to win.
:4pit::4darkpit:Pit and Dark Pit are my runner ups. I prefer Dark Pit, but I will usually use Pit instead for his arrows in matches I'm more serious about winning.
:4link:Link is easily my #3, and is on the verge of replacing the Pits. I love alternating between sword and projectile attacks mid-match.
:4lucario:Lucario is an old Brawl main, and is my #4. The only thing I like about his play style is his grabs and Force Palm, though. The rest feels too weak, too slow, or too short ranged, depending on the move.

In less serious battles, I also might resort to Palutena, Ganonderp, Kirby, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Lucina, Robin, Duck Hunt, Sonic, Mega Man, or Doctor Mario for the lolz.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm just slightly eager to contribute to discussion. And while you do have a point, I don't know the frame data or priority on Confusion or Disable, but imo, Mewtwo looks like combo food for both characters. Fox has his double jab cancel while Falcon has one of the best jabs in the game along with the D-throw combos.

As a sort of in your face sort of person, I doubt Mewtwo is going to change my character (Little Mac, Bowser, Gannondorf and Ike), but he'd be a nice switcharoo for me when I'm messing around.

As for the fav DLC a few pages back, I'll post my most wanted too!

- Scizor: I'll go with the outta nowhere vote right out the bat, gen ll has always been under-represented in Smash, and Pichu wasn't a very... ...popular character to say the least. I voted for scizor, not just because he was a favorite of mine, but because almost all Pokemon are either Gen-1, starters, or both and I honestly think that trend is getting a little dull for Smash, especially for people who might not like Pokemon. Besides that he'd make for a brilliant bruiser with a decent air-game!

- Ridley: Always the boss fight and never the character, if anyone deserves a spot in the game, it's this guy! Unique character, hugely popular, under-represented series he really does furfill all the quota's for who should get a spot. All the anti-ridleys sprout is really garbage excuses like "Oh he's too big" (And olimar's too small), or "He deserves to be a boss more than a playable character" (What sort of reasoning is that in Smash brothers?). Not only that, but in the Ridley fan thread, a 14 year old managed to prove that he's a fully playable character in a matter of weeks.

- K.Rool: Another character perfect for smash, with a really vibrant personality, and a rich history in Donkey Kong, there really is no good reason he shouldn't be in game, beside perhaps if Rare still owns copyright, but I doubt they do.

[collapse=Roy/Wolf devils advocate]

I'm sorry, but I'm not a big fan of either of these guys getting in, I'm sorry, but so far we've already gotten two returning veterans, one of them already being a semi-clone, I feel that this DLC should be able to present some newer characters and playstyles into this game, and help inject some new life into the game, If all we get is Wolf, Roy and so on, it's just going to be more of the dammed same, and I'm not paying $7 a pop for more of the dammed same. Lets let in some fresh air into Smash for once!

[/colapse]

Since everyone is talking about their mains I guess I will weigh in.

:4yoshi: Yoshi has always been one of my best characters since I picked him up in Melee. He was the first character I used to fully complete adventure mode and beat Giga Bowser (probably one of the most epic smash battles I can remember). I really like his new ability to space and annoy people with his eggs, and then combo into ariels and grabs.

:4lucina: Lucina is a new one for me. I played a fair bit of Marth in Brawl and I think I was reasonably good at him, but the moment I used her she seemed to work like Marth but sooo much better. I know people say she is an easy version of Marth, but I have to disagree.

:4tlink: Toon Link is an interesting one. I had liked using Young Link back in Melee and Toon Link is kinda his replacement. He is great at getting in on people and forcing them to come in close to get a hit. His B-Throw is an amazing kill move as well.

:4ness: Ness is a character I only really tried to pick up in Sm4sh as I never really got him as a character before that. But once I spent time trying to learn him he grew on me fast and his combos are great! However, I'm certain that when Lucas comes out Ness will be taking the backbench.

And of course our Lord Mewtwo will join my mains when he is released.
