Well, looks like we're done here. I gotta say, this has been one of my favorite threads to ever partake in. From the first post:

Here are my final thoughts.

-If you guys remember me well, you may remember how fond I grew of Eight from Dragon Quest and how I said I'd actually be very happy if he was the DQ rep. Well, I got what I wanted. My weirdest little dream is realized. It's a great day.
-TPC WAS RIGHT
-I've come to terms with Genos fate for a few months now. Honestly, he's got a Spirit, an online icon, and maybe a Mii costume...I'm happy. I got Banjo-****ing-Kazooie, dude, how could I not be happy?
-I'm happy for the Erdrick fans. You guys went through a lotta ****, toughed it out, and got a damn fine character to boot.
-...**** the Luminary though I'm still salty LOL McDonald's hairline headass

I met some real fine folks in this thread and have a damn ton of fun memories.

After 6 months, looks like all our debates have come to a conclusion. Thank you all (especially Nekoo ).

This may actually be my last big post on Smashboards in general, so thank y'all for having me. And please don't forget me when you see Sassy Geno!

Well this thread has been a real trip. While I was mostly a bystander in the whole thing, it's great to see the whole Square Enix saga come to a close and I'm honestly looking forward to seeing how The Hero plays. Even as someone who generally dislikes leaks this is honestly the best case scenario for a Dragon Quest reveal, since nobody really predicted the whole multiple heroes thing and none of the major leak had DQ and Banjo at the same time. I was a little worried that the entire pass would be spoiled, but it's good to see that there's still hope for the last two characters to be surprises

Also I really think Ryu Hayabusa has a shot now. I mean we already have Koei Tecmo assist trophy. So let’s go ha

Congrats to DQ fans, we made it! As far as who I wanted for Square I was going to be fine with either Dragon Quest or Sora, considering those are two of Square's biggest franchises not represented at all! I am still going to hold out hope for another possible Square rep and it ends up being Sora who takes one of the last two spots.

Speaking of the last two spots, can these guys please be a surprise! That's really my only hope for the rest of the Fighter's Pass! Don't let them be leaked! It seems like the leakers only know of the early characters, I'd be surprised if they who last two ends up being. I kinda hope that leakers and insiders leave the other two alone and let us be genuiely surprised when we see them in action.

I have a feeling one of the remaining DLC spots will go to Bandai Namco. I mean they helped make Smash and they only have Pac-Man so far. However who knows we’ll have to wait and find out.

Actually, none of those is Dai. From left to right, they are the Heroes from:
5, 10, 7, 1, 6, 9 and 2.

Basically, all the mainline Heroes that aren't playable(11, 3, 4 and 8).

If they had to get someone else for the Fighter's Pass from Square it probably would be Sora (bias aside) Kingdom Hearts is the only series from Square to not really cross over with anybody and it is one of their bigger series they have! I'd doubt they would go for Chrono considering how little they even try to promote it. It's like they try their best to ignore that series. Besides Square usually goes for their bigger characters that's relevant to them for DLC crossovers, and they don't get replicated neither from the same series. I don't think Dragon Quest in Jump Force even counts as that considering it's apart of a franchise they don't really own.

But yeah, if they had to get someone else for the pass it probably would be Sora. I know theres Geno, and fans want him, but we're lucky to possibly even have him back and be referenced as a Mii costume. I think Square has deserved to get three characters in the pass if they do get another one, considering their one of the big main third party supporters of the Switch.

Only kind of.

Barely anybody saw Luminary coming as the face. That was very unexpected.

We also got leaked we'd get a female Erdrick alt. Which is nowhere to be found.

It's actually been a very unique reveal that we only had partial, yet not entirely right, information for.

That's what makes this one interesting. Brave is literally the Japanese name. It's just like Packun Flower.

We got no consistency among codenames. We were all sure that Brave was more of a trait too. Or a reference. But no, it's the literal name. The first time the Fighter's Pass did that. What it means, overall, is they aren't following a pattern or design philosophy at all that fits every single FP character. So the next one, which is obviously Banjo & Kazooie, could be just about anything.

This has been an interesting thread to have, and it'll be a shame to see it go. Alas, there was only ever going to be one (this is Square Enix we're talking about, after all).

If nothing else, it goes to show just how differently people perceive the ideal Squeenix rep, and how Sakurai's views still trump them all. Let it not be forgotten just how long most of these candidates were in speculation, only for Dragon Quest to be the one to follow up Cloud in the end.

There’s an Assist trophy and spirits in Smash Ultimate by Koei Tecmo, they are from the Fatal Frame series. Yuri Kozokata is the assist trophy and Mío and Maya Amakura are spirits. Not to mention Koei Tecmo appears in the end credits of Smash Ultimate. Due to the high relationship of Koei Tecmo and Nintendo and how iconic the poster boy of Koei Tecmo is. I think Ryu Hayabusa of Ninja Gaiden has very good shot at a DLC spot, not to mention he’s a NES classic character.

The one thing that puzzles me is the complete absence of stuff they did for Warriors spin-offs of Zelda and Fire Emblem. Would spirits from those be included with Ryu's coming?

Possibly as most of the spirits would most likely be from Ninja Gaiden or Dead or Alive.

That being said I think it’s a strong door opener for characters from Hyrule Warriors to make an appearance in the future. With fan favorites like Lana and Linkle, having a Koei Temco rep in Smash could open the door for them to appear in Smash in the future.

I hope your right.. and it would make sense.
I mean... It¨s clear that Rare, Nintendo, and Microsoft knew that it would be a big deal for them to return (all the cinematic is the characters celebrating for heck sake and their trailer is called best buddies) and now is a perfect time to revive the franchise. Also.. the duo is extremely popular in Japan too. I followed the Japanese part of Twitter where people went nuts to the point that they were top trending for a quiet the while before Dragon Quest put them to second. To this point, I could even see Xbox let Nintendo develop newer titles and make it a first party for Nintendo due to the popularity in Japan since Xbox has no foothold there to speak of, while the formers stay on both platforms.

I argue that s Banjo & Kazooie game on Switch only, made by the kings of the platform genre would sell a ton better than having someone else make them for both consoles. Rare aren¨t them self since the N64 era and the majority of the current staff are occupied with Sea of Thief after all

I don't think I could have asked for the Hero to come in a better form. The heroes were masterfully chosen, the musics, the presentation, I love it all!

I'm not going to explicitly hard de-confirm anybody though because I'm just a schmuck that has a lucky in, which means I don't know every single thing there is to know. You can see that in how I got the female alts for Hero wrong. Being aware of alts and knowing exactly what all of them are ended up being different things, which is why I said they allegedly had male and female alts. It seemed likely but it was also something I was the least concrete about. I'm frankly extremely baffled that female alts didn't happen though. What an oversight by SE.

But hey, if I ever find out anything else I'll be sure to either vaguely hint at it or just outright say something if I can.

I sincerely doubt we'll get more from SE unless we get DLC after the Fighter's Pass, which is still very up in the air (and frankly unlikely).

I don't think I ever said it here, but congrats to DQ's heroes for making it in Smash, bee tee dubs. Here's hoping my boy makes a miraculous return some other way. Out of curiosity, what do y'all think of his chances for a return to the Mario RPGs in the future? How likely does that seem? He's not happening in the Fighter's Pass, so my hopes are mainly focused on him returning to his series. Honestly, it's even better this way, imo. Bring him back home first, then put him in Smash. The fact that they put his spirit in the base game for Ultimate, one of the only base game elements from Square, gives me hope that they're willing to let Nintendo do whatever with him as long as negotiations go over well. It just wasn't his time in terms of play-ability.

I doubt so. Maybe they'll throw FF7 a little bone and add in a Sephiroth costume or a Tifa costume, but that'd be about it.

Also if my boy can't be playable, at least make it feel like it's him this time, Nintendo. Cover the freaking Mii face on his costume. It's horrible.

Thank you! I wanted to make it a long time ago, but I needed hero to be confirmed first.
Basically he becomes my main, Sonic and Mega become secondaries. These are my top 10 favorite characters in the game so far. (Echoes and alt. Skins apply to their source character).

Crono hat and outfit (CT) Swd
Barret (FFVII) Gun
Black Mage (FF) Swd

Although part of me would love to see PS1 low poly Cloud.

Probably Slime Hat, Geno Costume, Chocobo hat, maybe two more Mii costumes for DQ (Builders and Heroes protags)
