I remember that too, but I thought that SNES games were going to be a part of the SWitch online subscrition similar to the NES games.

If that was the case, would any SNES games really pop up on Best Buy?

If SNES games had to be bought via the eShop like any other game that'd be really lame.
Yeah this would indicate it's a remake then… which is kinda… interesting if that's the case.

To be honest I'd rather we get new 2D Zeldas than remakes. The last 2D Zelda was Tri Force Heroes, and that's like 4 years ago already. It's about time we get a new one. I love me some Link's Awakening and ALttP as much as anyone else, but I also want to play new stuff.

You know, if it's a remake, I really wanna know who at the office over at Nintendo thought it was a good idea to make and release two remakes of two 2D Zelda games around the same time. That might be one of the worst business ideas I've heard in a while.

I dunno about that. A complete set of the Best Link Quartet all in the same style would be pretty cool.

It's zelda, they both would sell anyway. While LA and ALTTP are not connected, they have released more than one zelda around the same time before with the Oracles ones. It's like saying Pokemon is doing bad choices with multiple games within a year, and as far as i know, we have been teased of like two more pokemon games aside of Shield and Sword (altho we don't know the dates for those other two, or anything about them). They are franchises that will sell regardless, that's why they do it.

They might be taking a page from Disney's book of overwhelming people with remakes.

Bayonetta 1&2 and Persona 5 Switch were both published by Nintendo
so was Dragon Quest XIS

i wonder what this could mean for Erdrick? :O

i wish i could hug Tifa ;v;
Honestly I don't think it means much for Erdrick than it already did; it's no secret how Nintendo has had a close hand in the DQ series since the first game, even giving away free copies in Nintendo Power. They've published every game in the series released on their consoles in the West, but not always in Japan (the collectors edition of DQ11 included both the PS4 and 3DS versions).

A mythical, legendary time where Enix wasn't so stingy and actually allowed Nintendo to do that...

Ahh, what I'd give for times like those again.

Nintendo helped publish a few Enix titles and Square titles in the west, including the NES DQ and FF. DQ creator has been careful regarding the use of his franchise, and if I'm honest with you the stinginess from SE seems to come mostly from the Square part.

Forget giving away free copies, how about we just worry about them being able to consistently make actually really good games again.

It actually had to do with overproduction of the game in the West. Due to the fantastic success in Japan they assumed the same would hold true outside of Japan... which ended up not being the case, since RPGs were still a "nerd" thing.
So, with all the unsold copies on hand, they decided the best promotion they could do would be to straight up give away free games.

Well they werent free, they still cost the price of the subscription, which was a decent anount. They got a ton of subs from it, so it was a great choice.

Can we get a sequel to the OG NES games, I'd be down for that. Exploring an apocalyptic Hyrule more akin to the NES Zelda games would be hype. And no I don't want what was in BOTW, I want it to look like a desert with very little fauna.

I want a sequel to Zelda II in a very similar style with modern-day tweaks and no stupid lives system.

That... is the dream, a dream only I have.

In a way Zelda 2 was really the first to mix so much adventuring with rpg elements like metroidvania dungeons. It's a shame there werent more.
Wonderboy in monsterland was cool too. I'm still looking for more games like them. There's more than before at least :)

I'd actually be intrigued by how Nintendo would make a Zelda II like game in modern times. Hopefully there'd be more combat stuff you could use, better magic, no having to go back to the beginning of the game and losing all experience, no place as BS as the final palace...

i think a game like zelda 2 could go the action RPG route like ys 8 i think playing with link like that would be fun

It took a while for Capcom to get back especially after stuff like SF V disastrous launch and the fiasco that was known as MvC:I, but now we got a few good to great games like MM 11, DMC V and REmake 2. I feel that SE is in a better situation due to FF XIV, DQ XI, Octopath, Bravely, Nier, and so on. So we just need a good FF.
I'll share this here too; the movie adaptation of DQ5 just got its first trailer

I like the monsters, but the humans faces look a bit weird. Plus it looks like there's no Deborah so I'm a bit disappointed.

Seems that they are going to focus on the teenage years and skip a good part of the child part.

aaaAAAA

So the artstyle for the humans is a little jarring (not bad, but not what you expect from DQ) but man is this pretty. I will probably check this out since DQ5 is probably my favorite DQ game.

Not sure how much of the game the movie is going to cover though. DQ5 is probably a bit hard to adapt in a 1.5-2 hour movie format.

I think I know why the trailer style seems so familiar to me… it's probably the same people who made that Saint Seiya movie, altho i could be wrong at least it's a very similar type of CG.

Like an actual Zelda III? I'd be down for that.

Believe me, you are not alone. Zelda II is woefully underrated.

I can't even begin to describe how much more I love you for this post, Charlie Brown 741. Why can't I like a post twice?! Zelda II is so underrated. I understand why people dislike it, but god, I love it. It ain't even nostalgia either, as I ended up playing it WAY later in life. I just... genuinely love it.

People probably wanted more of the same, which I guess is fair in a time when Zelda 1 was all there was. Nowadays, we got like over 10 iterations of the top down Zelda, so it would be cool to see them go back to that gameplay style. At least for variety.

(But also it plays so good. I'm amazed at how something so simple like being able to duck attack just makes the game so strategic)

I played it for the first time fully with Switch Online and was genuinely blown away at how creative and cool it was. Such a fun RPG/adventure/sidescroller hybrid. Something new like that would be really neat. Link's Awakening had the sidescroller bits but still.

Zelda II really is underrated and with how popular games about conserving your movements and playing cleverly and defensively are nowadays a proper sequel could really blow up.

If any of you want to see a different take on Zelda II, those of you with a Switch Online subscription can make a Japanese account and try the Famicom version of the game (the Switch is region-free, so you won't have to pay any extra).

Lots of things were changed in the western release for the game, so seeing how the original Japanese version did things is cool, like the experience system (you can look up the details) and how Tektites no longer need the fire spell to be hurt, among other adjustments. Every temple in the game is gray, though, whereas in the western version they all got unique color palettes. Just keep a guide handy since you probably won't be able to read the hints NPCs give you. Also the song for basic fights on the overworld is different, you may recognize it as it got a remix as the miniboss theme in The Minish Cap.

Man that DQ5 movie trailer looks great, but Madason just looks way to wimpy. The guy was
a slave doing hard physical labor for a decade
he should have meat on them bones.

The girls and the monsters look great though. Bianca especially. Probably even better than Toriyama's design if I'm being honest.

Someone in Madason's situation probably isn't getting a good and healthy diet from which to grow muscle, so I'll give the film credit and assume that's the creative liberty they're taking.

I know, I'm probably just used to the muscular Toriyama design. It'll probably grow on me.

The movie seems focused on the teenage years of Madason before getting married, I kinda would like to think that maybe he gets buffed by when he gets married which would seem the end of the film if being teenager seems the focus.

(although new Toriyama designs seem to forgo the muscle for the protagonists :b)

Seriously unsurprising, and given this is the same source that leaked Cloud, I have no doubt to question it at this point. It's a little odd to me that Tansut was told to keep quiet about Cloud, yet nothing of the sort went on with Erdrick, though.

I've never been more certain of a character being a lock in my life. I'm pretty darn sure the DQ fans have got their guy, and I'm happy for them. It still tears me up that Geno missed the boat, though...

"Smile" and "slime" are the same word with the l and m swapped, now that I see it. No wonder Slime is happy all the time.
