For the past year and a half, Source Gaming has been collecting all the information, interviews and Famitsu columns, that it could get its' hands on. The collection of information has corrected a lot of misinformation and misconceptions within the Smash fan base. Taking information that is from only credited sources, Source Gaming is truly living up to its' name. Previously, Source Gaming has published The Definitive Unused Fighter List, Sakurai Didn't Say That!, Timeline of Masahiro Sakurai's Life and various articles detailing Sakurai's statements on various topics.

A common statement within the Smash fanbase is, 'Sakurai is a liar!' or 'Sakurai is a troll!'. PushDustIn decided to ask the community for their proof for these statements, investigate the claims and publish his findings.

This quote comes from the Brawl site - Not a mistranslation, but it's not intended to sound so “definitive” (Japanese link). It just means that Ness was in all the previous Smash games up to that point. It was not a direct confirmation that Ness was or wasn’t going to be in Brawl.

Cases of Quotes Being Taken of Context:
"No DLC for Smash for Wii U/3DS"
This quote was taken out of context. Sakurai said that he and his team were not working on DLC at the time of the interview (November 19th), which for all we know, is true.

We believe that Samus is the best character in Super Smash Brothers for Wii U and 3DS"
This was in reference to the E3 invitational build (video link to the quote). This is probably his sincere opinion at the time, so it’s not a lie. On top of that, Sakurai states that he’s still balancing, so things would have changed since then.

Cases Lacking Sources:
”No more clones”
According to several threads on this topic, this is something that Sakurai has never said. In none of the Brawl interviews that Source Gaming has yet to translate, or has translated, were they able to find this. It is possible that eventually a source could turn up, but we will have to consider this misinformation since one has not been made available. According to Kinnian, it was made up by a user on Gamefaqs, and accepted as truth despite it lacking sources. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this happen and is the reason why people should always, always ask for a source.

It's sad Smash fans are so worshiping of Sakurai and butthurt so easily that Dustin has to put that giant NO. at the beginning of the article. Sakurai should be a character in Smash 5. He could have many different forms. 1st is normal, then Pinocchio form and finally sacred cow form.

I think Melee has more solid fanbase it's because how old Melee is, and it's the game that stablize the serie's status as it is today.
Smash4 is catching up, and I'm sure over the next two years, Smash4 might be as big as Melee.

Problem with those comparisons. They are Nintendo. Geno is a third party, which Sakurai has said needs to be a special case.

Not being in Smash didn't make Geno irrelevant. It's his distinct lack of appearances making him a character with one major appearance like 20 years ago. That's why Geno got this "hate" before his deconfirmation. Yeah, believe it or not every character got their fair share of hate before being deconfirmed. Geno's lucky to get a mii costume this time around.

It's actually to get to the point quickly because "Sakurai is a lying cur!" is rife in this sad excuse for a fanbase but keep living in your fantasy land like all the rest. Let me know when you return to reality. It's great not believing in misconceptions, not making crackpot conspiracy theories and actually growing up and getting over your issues with the game.

No he's not. He's primarily living off of the money of people who liked the new additions. You aren't the majority, and I remember you saying you dislike the newcomers this time around. The majority of Smash fans like these additions though. Sakurai's catering to the majority, not you.

I knew I should have bolded the WHAT IF part of the post. I was talking about SMASH 5 not smash 4.

Yeah, that still pissed me off, even to this day, I would give Smash4 9/9/9/9 (Famisu score) if the have story mode.
Ii might be possible that Famisu only give Smash4 36/40 due to the lack of story mode, remember how Brawl's gameplay was heavily criticized by many competitive Smashers, but it still got 40/40 on Famisu. Japanese do like games with stories afterall.

This is not really a problem, Geno has a different situation, Geno will be counted as Mario rep rather than a 3rd party rep even Sakurai himself listed him in the melee poll with Mario characters list instead of the 3rd party characters list so he is in the same level as any Nintendo character.

 

Maybe King K Rool was the No1 on the list, but not No1 worldwide.

This is not really a problem, Geno has a different situation, Geno will be counted as Mario rep rather than a 3rd party rep even Sakurai himself listed him in the melee poll with Mario characters list instead of the 3rd party characters list so he is in the same level as any Nintendo character.

Geno isn't owned by Nintendo, he's owned by SE. Sakurai says as much in regards to his Mii Costume during the final presentation. He isn't on the same level as any Nintendo character.
He's a third party Mario character and with the series gaining some more rising stars like Nabbit and some of the old crowd like Daisy, Waluigi and Paper Mario still waiting there are far easier options to go with for someone from the Mario series.

Of course not! Why should I be on this site while watching the last presentation? And I know the thread will keep going and going and needs to refresh everytime. I still don't think the entire Smash fanbase can be that toxic, if you are mentioning the salty nation, then yes.

I have already mentioned that a while ago.
I remember his last appearance prior to Smash4 was in M&L Superstar Saga, and Geno was the cameo in an arcade game. In the end credits, it did mention Geno belongs to SE, another proof.
And death threats huh? I don't even give a ****, those kind of post will get warned anyway. However, I'm quite curious to see those posts, it will be funny to see them right now.
