It didn't take much force for it to pop off, either. I was shocked; I had been playing pretty softly (or so I'd thought).

That's sad. I don't want to ruin my 3ds stick. I do have some trouble on the 3ds. Mostly doing tilts or smashes when I want to. Also doing up b's gets me i will end up doing a side b. I guess since I'm holding towards the stage and I don't move to the up position enough :/

Soooo, whats up folks.

I gave in and started playing Sonic in Smash 4. Man he is pretty strong this time around, but he is alot more vulnerable in the air, thats for sure.

Anyone know if any of the down Bs do anything useful? Without ASC, I find myself not using it at all.

That sucks about the circle pad… Sorry, man. It has become an epidemic since Sm4sh. Never heard of issues before this game, lol.

ASC is still pretty good, we're just missing the really useful second SC of ASCSC (Aerial Spin Charge Shield Cancel).

ASC's main uses are for shield pressure and combos. It still has the multiple hits and pops for an aerial follow-up. It's just more of a commitment now without the shield cancel.

As for Down-B customs, I haven't explored them much but they seem underwhelming all in all. The one with the vacuum pull might be interesting? idk. The Side-B variants are only slightly more plausible.

I'm using Fire Spin Dash. There appears to be no downside. Short hop is amazing and the one thing I wanted for brawl's spindash. Despite the lack of a hop, it appears to STILL have invincibility AND lots of priority doing 2-3 times the damage of normal side B.

Double Spring was strange. I see uses, but I doubt I have it in me to fully capitalize on its functions. It doesn't go well with fire spin either.

I don't have much of a preference on homing attack. I haven't killed with it yet, so I'm wondering if I should use the one that won't make me SD off stage.

The biggest downside I see with Fire Spin Dash is that if it gets shielded, it's absolutely the worst thing I've ever seen ever.

In a Sonic ditto, I shielded the hit from Fire Spin Dash and had plenty of time to attack OoS with like any smash attack far too easily. The cooldown is absolutely brutal.

Ok.

I) ASC->full charge HA
II) SD hop->full charge HA

Can someone test if that's viable (getting someone good in FG takes a while)?

Just so you guys know, Sonic is now in a Conquest against Sheik and Greninja, titled "Now You See Me...".

It's motivated me to take a break from Rosalina and start putting in some work with the blue blur. I've been reading some of the techs you guys have come up with and they are really great. They make SUCH a difference, and for me, they are relatively easy to do (and will be even more so on a GC controller).

Apparently you can participate in conquests in For Fun mode... and with mirror matches.

I was not aware that Sonic would actually be in a conquest so soon. o_o But in any case, I'm gonna log as many as I can until it's over. Might as well push the statistics in Sonic's favor ever so slightly.

Sonic dittos boil down to who reacts out of a clashed spindash faster.

Conquest doesn't even make sense. I thought it was suppose to be the triad of the characters involved fighting one-another; but, apparently, just playing the character(s) anytime the conquest is on and you're eligible to contribute will trigger it. :/

You get points even if you lose, but you get more for winning.

Losing in 1v1 gets you 2 points, winning gets you 6, for example.

It doesn't involve the character fighting each other directly, though.

Think of it like "Dynasty Smash Bros". You're conquering territory.

I was wondering how points in conquest work. Haven't lost yet doing conquest as steak. Lost nearly every match in the last one though repping pokemon. Jiggz, for some ****ing stupid reason, wasn't included, so I went Zard, cos I find Pika/Grannyinga/Lucboreio incredibly boring to play as.

This. It's not worth it.
I think if I do ANY CHANGE with Sonic at all for Smash 4's customs, it'll be the spiking Homing Attack. I was watching Blue from upstate in a few CT videos, and that superhop sideB just kills close quarters mixups since he goes over opponents with that. That's one of my favorite spots to be in in games. I'll stick to the regular sideB. :applejack:

I also tried double spring again. I hate it.

The knockback on the springs are absolutely useless. Regular spring all day.

Yup. Stupid low knockback on double spring.

If anything, it like, helps them recover. Just gives the opponent their Up-B back, lol. Might do testing against Villager's balloons though. That's the only practical use for it I can think of.

Your Xat sux, no one will cyber with me.
I just popped in. All I see is "CutieDip" lol.

I think Wedge was actually the one who made it a little while back. It was hype for like a couple days and then, ya know, life happened.

But we have it so... Whenever people want to plan shenanigans.

I heard a lot of people complaining about Sonic being broken on General Impressions but I'm not seeing it. Of course when I asked about this I was ignored. Can any of you fill this in better? All I know is one of them cited Hammer Spin Dash (the one with the huge hop).

@ BlueTerrorist BlueTerrorist post it in the tournament thread. We need these results bro.

Also this title is how I feel right now. Fire Spin Dash isn't even worth it to me at the moment.

The homing attack spike sounds useful for certain matchups. That's really about it though.
The only really good custom is instant down b.
Opponent's shields are becoming a problem. It's hard to pressure shields.
Dude, just don't spam spindash. :sonic: has a lot more tools this go around (To name a few):
  • :sonic: can spindash into people without jumping as a godlike mixup since they have to drop shield, turn around, and dash just to punish (Few can actually succeed in punishing this).
  • :sonic: can FH Fair to poke.
  • :sonic: can retreating SH Fair (Harder to do on a 3ds, but still a great tool).
  • :sonic: can bair wall.
  • :sonic: can dash up>Side b>Cancel into roll, shield, or spotdodge.
  • :sonic: can down b/side b and jump early to HA.

I think :sonic: always has an option if people start shielding a lot. Adapt XD. I have so many mixups it's crazy. I have crazy good reactions regardless tho lmao.

How widespread are custom moves legal again? I've only heard a few states legalized it while a few more are just experimenting.

I'm not sure honestly. I know NorCal is experimenting with customs at this time but I haven't really heard from the other parts of West Coast. I know certain states in East Coast do customs.

HORRAY! Customs have a chance to be legal! I don't know about you, but I just can't wait to use double spring in serious competitive play.
Right guys?:troll:
