One Piece is spectacular, probably my tied favourite manga ever (and I read a ****ton of manga).

If you don't like it you don't like it, but it's the best-seller in Japan for a reason, and that reason is because it's ****ing brilliant.

Ooh,sounds like advice from personal experience, did you get hooked on one before? Also, been wondering for a while about your avatar, does it belong to
Nagisa
?
Yes, it is. Clannad is amazing. Not sure why you spoilered her name, since she is the second character to appear in the series (first if you include the OP or are talking about the visual novel) and nothing dango-ey is spoilerworthy (well maybe one aspect sorta).

I'm halfway through about 15 series at the moment and don't have the time to watch them. It's painful. Don't get addicted to anime, guys.

250gb of unwatched

1 terabyte of bandwidth doesn't help. I've looked at three interesting series and gotten them, then when I copy them to my video folder it asks me if I want to replace files already existing and I sigh.

Found this while I was reading stuff on the internet

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the video games industry this morning in a case that called for the ban of violent games to children in the state of California.

In a 7-2 decision, the court stuck down the proposed law, saying video games fall under First Amendment protection.

"Like protected books, plays, and movies, [video games] communicate ideas through familiar literary devices and features distinctive to the medium. And 'the basic principles of freedom of speech . . . do not vary' with a new and different communication medium," said the court.

"This country has no tradition of specially restricting chil- dren's access to depictions of violence. And California's claim that 'interactive' video games present special problems, in that the player participates in the violent action on screen and determines its out- come, is unpersuasive The proposed law was first signed in 2005 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. It opposed the sale of violent games to minors and could fine retailers up to $1,000 for each violation. A federal appeals court, however, blocked the law before it could pass, deeming it unconstitutional. The U.S. Supreme decided in April 2010 to give the law a second look, making its decision this morning.

"This is a historic and complete win for the First Amendment and the creative freedom of artists and storytellers everywhere. Today, the Supreme Court affirmed what we have always known – that free speech protections apply every bit as much to video games as they do to other forms of creative expression like books, movies and music," said Michael D. Gallagher, president and CEO of the ESA, which represents the U.S. computer and video game industry.

one piece is great. do you really think that, or are you afraid of what people will think of you?
I used to think that because a couple of my friends said they didn't like it either (thus I was scared of what they would think of me), but afterwards I realized their reasons for disliking it were surface level. I dislike it for more sophisticated reasons now (which is better than not liking it for surface level reasons), but I admit that some of my dislike of the manga comes from the fact that no one else around me likes it (in other words, they like other things so I'm more compelled to like those other things to fit in). Fitting in has alluring properties that I just don't feel like overcoming at this age.

Manga and Anime both suck. There may be (rare) exceptions, but I've yet to see any of them.

Inb4 people think, for some odd reason, that entire media can't be bad. They can.

I think it's because people have different tastes.
IMPOSSIBLE

I'm about to watch princess TUTU episode 1, just for peek
I guess I'll watch it next time I watch a new anime. Hope I'm not disappointed.

i'd like to see more ness combos with reverse fair. i think it has flare.
Word. I use it all the time when I'm fooling around in training mode/on CPUs, but I rarely use it in game for some reason :(

I think weak reverse bair has potential, too.

Two thumbs up, Supreme Court.

Well, it's kind of hard for an entire media to be bad. I disagree, but if you had said most manga/anime is bad, I would have had to agree.

Anyways, I'm going to have to be honest. I think so at least partially because you are trying too hard to be American. Kind of like how you hated on Friendship Is Magic without watching it, because you're also one of the people who tries too hard to assure others that you're not a homosexual. Yeah, from what I've seen, I think I know what kind of person you are; high school is full of people like you.

that's because bad is subjective, and patriotic americans hate everything japanese due to still whining about pearl harbour or something
inb4battlecow writes a long, unnecessary, and smug post directed towards you about wrecking Japan in WWII, even though you aren't repping Japan in your post or anything. Damn, I know this guy too well. Except he'll deny it, saying that he wasn't going to do that. Except now he won't deny it, because I said he will. Self-nullifying prophecy.

Ordering my new laptop this week.

Who's gonna play melee with me if my it's good enough to run?
to play with dolphin online u have to be able to run the game full 60 fps with dual core mode off which means u need like a quad core for that. u need to have dual core off or else it will ds instantly. But if ur getting a core i5 it might be good enough, i only have a core i3 and it doesnt go 60 fps without dual core mode on.

I'm not saying that the media is inherently bad; I'm sure there's potential there. But come on- read any manga. Any at all. The poor writing leaps out at you and whacks you until you heave. I guess I won't critique the art (I personally find it jarring and shoddily done, but I suppose that's subjective) but elevating that trash above the level of a guilty pleasure read is a downright sin, and anyone with half a brain will tell you so. I've asked a lot of people for examples of manga that deviates from the standard of badness set by all the manga I've ever read, and I've either gotten more bad manga or no replies.

OK, now, I was waiting for the perfect example, and here it is. You really like to get genuinely upset about dumb things and then be really really abrasive about it and then try to play it off. I feel ridiculous giving you a talking-to about manners or w/e on an ssb forum, but it's getting on my nerves. Be a nicer, less brusque person. Also, if you couldn't tell that I was trolling the PG, my condolences. Manga is genuinely bad. Like, I like literature, I like some comic books, Manga is a straight offense against both. This is not my silly jokingly-American side talking.

I wasn't gonna do that.

Gav I'm getting a i5 2.3 ghz processor. The i5's have multithreading which essentially makes it a quad core processor. I think it SHOULD be powerful enough hopefully it doesn't desync too much.

Damn, unlucky man. I also thought the same as you though when I heard it was going to be Roulette night.

People Arguing
99% of anime and manga is good in its own way.

Don't worry guys we're making progress. Last time this debate came out Battlecow claimed manga art was objectively bad. I'm sure by next time he'll also admit that story line's are also subjective, even if he finds them in poor taste.

Go read Negima Battlecow.

Weak reverse bair > weak nair for the uair -> (bair/nair) -> dair combo.
It's tougher but doesn't hit them as far.

I read deathnote and watched it up to the part where L dies, which is what everyone says you should do.

It was terrible. I guess it was a step in the right direction (at least they attempted to make it thrilling and intellectual instead of just a counting contest like the "fight" mangas) but they're hampered by the medium and not that clever in the first place. When half of every page consists of a dude saying one word and you have pretty much six emotions that you can draw, it's hard to pile complexity on complexity. What's more, instead of the delightful twists, escapes, and reveals of good western mysteries/detective stories, their big reveal was always something along the lines of "HE HAD A PIECE OF THE DEATH NOTE OMG" or "HE DIDN'T REALLY OWN IT ANYMORE OMG GUYS HOW CLEVAR" and they randomly made up new rules for their magic system as they went along, Paolini-style. That's just the tip of its metaphorical iceberg of badness, tho

Guess I gotta go read Negima now. Sigh.

Edit: http://www.mangareader.net/209-14834-13/mahou-sensei-negima/chapter-1.html

My... my god. What have I been doing reading Fitzgerald and Hemingway? A better class of literature was right around the corner! How foolish I feel, sitting here and saying that manga was shallow and vapid! To think, that before witnessing this masterpiece, I would have compared the writing in it unfavorably to the that of a below-average Soap opera!

I can't wait how that turns out :awesome:

*Edit*
Not that it'll make you feel any better, but it turns into shounen fighting as opposed to harem in like 50 chapters

Everyone is wrong. The latter half of Death Note wasn't bad by any means.

Don't worry it's only 300 chapters or so, and the art gets better as it goes along, HOW THRILLING FOR YOU.

It's funny because I can say this and be 100% sincere =D

EDIT: Why are you using that site, it's not even 5 pages per page or anything. DDL volumes as you go IMO from a site like Manga Traders.

It is pretty futile doing something with the mindset that it's going to suck, because it will suck.

I try to approach these things with an open mind. My open mind, unfortunately, lasted about three seconds into Negima before I was like "O look, kind-of-repressed pedophilia, big, hastily drawn characters pointing at various things with the same surprised look on, and 'humor' that consists of exactly one joke, repeated ad nauseam (in this case, the 'joke' appears to be 'semi-naked cartoon middle school girls').

If you can honestly say that about manga (and I don't doubt that you can), you're culturally illiterate and hopelessly removed from the beautiful and sublime works that the finest minds of countless generations have labored to bring you. Most people are, though, so I guess it's not surprising.

RE the site I just googled it and clicked on the first thing WORKS FOR ME

I certainly wish I could judge a manga series after reading one chapter. Get to the action parts and try again pls.

Nice assumption dudette. I'll have you know that seeing as both my parents are avid readers, coupled with the fact that my mother works in a bookstore I have been brought up on, and still read countless fantastic novels. No surprise that the fantasy genre is my favourite with amazing series like the Belgariad, but a thrilling detective or enriching theology book never goes wrong.

You're a **** but click here anyway :3

When you said you could say the Hemingway/Fitzgerald thing and be completely sincere, I misconstrued it or something.

Any chance I could skip to the action part with Negima? This **** is killing me right now.

ehhhh probably, but you miss a helluva of character introductions, and with over 30 main characters you will get lost. but tbh I think we're wasting our time here. Unfortunately I can't exactly see you having an epiphany while reading, radically changing your perspective and mass-apolgising to manga fans, but hey, it's worth a shot.

Try starting at like, Volume 7.

I used to read it online, but that's only because I used to only read at school since we were on computers 4/6 periods a day to help us study for exams, and so downloading was not an option.
