Yokai watch has actually been declining. It sure as hell isnt as popular as it used to be
I know, but its popularity still rose above anything Professor Layton ever had, which isn't to say Layton in bad by any means since I absolutely loved what I played in PFvAA and don't care for Yokai Watch..I'm just saying that when it comes to Level-5, they would probably pick a Yokai Watch rep over Professor Layton.

I do feel like people are underestimating how well-known Mario RPG itself is.
Like, I completely agree that Geno would garner a ton of "Literally who?" reactions, probably the majority, but Mario RPG has historically sold very well all things considered. It sold 2 million copies on it's initial release, it's been ported over to the virtual console several times, it was included on the SNES classic which sold 5 million, it's the grandfather of Mario RPGs and pretty much created character like Bowser and Peach's personalities.
Obviously that's still not a huge amount, the younger generation is mostly left out, and not everybody will have played the game up to the point where Geno is even introduced, but Geno is undeniably an important aspect of the game. Hell, the fact that Geno is so popular in smash speculation has probably greatly helped increase the number of people who know him simply through cultural osmosis.
And honestly a lot of these arguments against Geno could also be used against Banjo, even though he was in a different state prior to reveal. I don't think Geno is getting in, but hey, who knows?

Re Geno and Isaac, I honestly feel that neither of them will ever get in

Ultimate answering so many fan requests makes it seem that the momentum will keep on going, but somewhere it's just gonna stop (at least for the older requests) and that'll suck for those fanbases, but that's life

EDIT: Hey, my 2,000th post is being pessimistic about speculation, nice

Do you all ever feel nervous to state your opinion, or is that just me?
Only if my opinion is trash.

Is your opinion trash Nathaniel?

No I get it tho

Especially now, being one of the few people still excited about Pokémon. Sometimes I wanna post something positive about it but then I realize it’ll just turn into another argument.

Why of course.

That’s nice to know.

And trust me, I’m pumped for the new Pokémon games too. The National Dex not being in sucks but it’s not a very big deal to me. If ya ever wanna talk about Sword and Shield hit me up in PMs. It’d be nice to have someone to discuss that with.

That's a fair point. The game he showed up in did sell pretty well.

Still, I feel if anything's getting Geno in, it'll be between his large fanbase similar to Ridley and K.Rool or Sakurai's honest interest in him. Whether Square and Nintendo care about him is a different story, and is likely the reason didn't pop up with some other group of popular characters.

If it helps somehow, I do want to try Pokémon Shield if I am allowed to.

The giant Pokémon mechanic has won my attention completely.

if Elma gets in we need BOTH versions of Uncontrollable

Smash isn't the only way to bring back a videogame character.

If I learnt something as a Crash fan, it is that companies do the stuff that brings the most money to them.

If Square suddenly finds out that working with Mario properties gives them huge chunks of money, they will deliver anything that could give them even more... And that includes stuff like SMRPG or the characters themselves.

I said it once and I'll say it again: never lose hope and keep suppporting the characters you like even outside of Smash. Because that's how Crash, Banjo, K.Rool, Spyro and even Megaman came back to the media.
Give me MMX9 fam.

We still gotta save the world from Mavericks, and we need sick tag-team mechanics in platformers again.

I am writing a cool story.
Remember July 1st, 1952?
Ah yes, July 1st 1952. What a summer that was.

Me and my sweetheart Caroline would swing on over to the malt shop for some good old fashioned fun. But nothin too scandalous, we’re good Christian teenagers saving our selves for marriage.

This feels the beginning of some indie Christian film. If you have a nana with a shelf full of those you’ll know what I mean.

Anyone else creeped out/concerned about all the stuff going on with Etika?

I legit am seriously scared he's dead and they won't find him alive. Not sure how someone who would eventually have someone recognize him could disappear and not eventually run into someone who knows who he is.

Hoping for the best. Fear the worst. :(
I am too. I don't even like the dude's content, but I hardly want someone to and get themselves hurt or worse. I understand many people think he's doing it for attention, and there's a chance that's the case, which is also worrying. Because no one wants to condone ****ty behavior. Yet the man could also honestly need the help. It makes these situations tricky because unless we know the dude personally, how are we to know what's genuine and what isn't? Or how can we really help if we don't know him?

The extra pressure from being a personality can't help either way. If he needs the help, all the personal pressure weights down on someone more. If he's faking it, it makes others look bad, or condones pretending to have mental illness. Just look at how many celebs are known for having issues one way or another. That's probably why quite a few try to get a quiet life so **** doesn't happen to them.

I guess all we can do is try to be patient at least, and assume the guy needs help for real. And that nothing horrible happened.

Not sure if anyone saw it, but Wayforward and Arc Sys are making a River City Girls game of some kind.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/04/wayforward_and_arc_system_works_announce_river_city_girls

Not sure how it'll turn out. But Wayforward made Double Dragon Neon, so it should pretty neat. Should've gotten Wayforward to make Battletoads honestly.
Wayforward and Arcsys are not a pair of studios I would have anticipated working together, but I'm curious of the result.

Please don't bring up the SNES Classic's sales metrics. That's one of the areas the Geno thread used to bring up a lot and it's just not a metric you can use to show much beyond absolute best case scenario exposure to Super Mario RPG (and not Geno himself even in that regard). Consider scalpers, and that pulls a chunk of people away that 5 Million since it was just one person. Consider how many bought it as a novelty item/collector's piece/gift and never played it. You lose another portion of people. Then consider the number of people who may not care enough about RPGs to boot them up. You lose more people. And then consider the number of people who would rather play other RPGs on the system. And you get the gist of my point. There's a wide variety of reasons to buy the SNES Classic and there's a high probability many of the people who played Super Mario RPG the first time around would be some of the same people buying the SNES Classic. There's no way to establish a metric of how the SNES Classic benefits Geno with regards to sales. And I'd still also argue that not every person who plays Super Mario RPG falls in love with Geno the same way Smash fans do or cares enough about him getting into Smash... or even cares about Smash at all...

Sorry, I just have to get that rant out of the way any time I see those 5 million brought up. I think it's certainly gotten more exposure through re-releases of course, but I'm curious to see how many fans have Geno in Smahs as a takeaway from even encountering Super Mario RPG. And naturally I agree that his Smash expsoure gives him more reason to be considered by new fans than most since he is such a weird pick.

But even I also have to admit he's not the face of Super Mario RPG like Banjo Kazooie is of the Banjo games, and I suspect that hurts him substantially too. I really like him, and love how Smash has built a fan base around this super unlikely character because it is potentially inspiring for the next "Geno" if you will. So I'd love to see him, but I think he's always had one of the most uphill battles of any character in Smash. Potentially even more than Banjo Kazooie (certainly more than Banjo Kazooie had for Ultimate given how easy Microsoft says things were...)

Well, that’s no good.

I swear, even if after aaaaallll of this, it ends up being a hoax for attention, then I’ll be dissapointed.
It seems evident to me that he is either legitimately suicidal or being manipulated by the Venus Project in some way. I'm leaning towards the latter at this point. For all we know its both. I highly doubt that he's doing this for attention, I doubt he was with his previous breakdowns either.

All... the... time. I'm incredibly, unintentionally anti-social, so going on these forums is outside of my typical habit. But sometimes the best way to deal with anxieties is to face them head on. *mulls over whether or not this is a good enough opinion to post... it's been 10 minutes already, it's been more than enough time... post*
