Real reason Geno can't get into Smash is because he killed Mario that one time and is facing the death penalty for his crimes.

Alright, how about Isaac’s chances?

I ain’t exactly an Isaac supporter, but I still cringe thinking about how they got so thoroughly bamboozled by the grinch.
Like with Geno, not happening in this game, Isaac's situation is even worse since he's just been brought back as an AT.

In the future it's really difficult to say, on the face of it he'd be a much easier inclusion than Geno since he's not 3rd party and actually the main character of his game, but Golden Sun's overall situation makes it a tricky one to predict, and that's unlikely to change between now and then. Sakurai has shown he likes a good revival though, so maybe that'll be Golden Sun's turn next time. I think it'll depend a lot on their approach towards newcomers next time, if we get a fair share of them then I think he'll happen, but if we get a limited amount of them like we did with Ultimate's base roster I don't see it, if he ever gets in it'll be as one of the lower priority newcomers imo.

Gozilla King of the Monster was such an enjoyable film. I mean, the movie had lots of incredibly dumb plot moments and conveniences... but who the hell cares about any of that stuff when you're watching Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Rodan tear **** up on screen. It really seems like they learned their lessons with regards to all of the Godzilla stuff from the 2014 film and made it so much better this time around. I would have loved more of them fighting on screen, but what we got was a visual treat and I realize the film was already incredibly expensive to make as is. It's a shame this universe of films never really caught on and that we won't probably see any of them except for Godzilla come back.

That said, at least we get a legitimate Godzilla vs King Kong movie next year in this franchise. One final sendoff to what could have been a legitimately exciting and new cinematic universe.

Question to the social thread, what are you brutally honest thoughts on Geno in Smash? I spend a lot of time around the Geno thread so I feel like I get that side of things a lot and as a fan of the character who doesn't always see eye to eye with other fans of the character, I'm always curious to see what others are really thinking on the character, especially in the wake of someone like Banjo Kazooie and Hero getting in (hopefully this doesn't strike too much of a cord with anyone or cause too much trouble haha).
Main issues with him is that he is pretty much a Mario character owned by SE. And sadly, SE has a lot of other popular characters that they probably want in the spotlight more than Geno and the Mario series doesn't really lack popular characters.

If there's another Mario project by SE (as in a non-crossover game) he might appear again.

Never really understood the appeal and for several years of speculation I thought Geno was so out there that the Smash Community made him a meme pick.

That said, the mii costume, spirit, and Sakurai acknowledgement certainly helps as does Piranha Plant breaking all the previous conceived notions of speculation. That said Geno isn't the only character to meet those conditions and I think the fans need to keep their expectations in check better.

IDK I feel like the more one has to argue in regards to speculation the less likely the given character is. Most of the Ultimate newcomers only had one perseved or known issue preventing their inclusion.

I’m itching to hear the rest of Banjo’s tracks

At this point I doubt it'll ever happen. If he was gonna get it at all it would've been in base game, and he's in the situation where he really only appeals to the more hardcore Smash Bros. fans. Ditto goes for Isaac IMO.

Hot take: I don’t really believe in any recent “theory” like Mii costume theory (Lloyd/Heihachi/the Capcom costumes might not return and it wouldn’t necessarily mean anything, like how Isaac’s AT being absent from 3DS/WiiU meant nothing), Trailer theory (seems a bit too big of a stretch tbh), etc.

I can sort of entertain color theory (KOS-MOS, who I want, might fit blue) and light/dark theory, but I don’t take them seriously. And box “theory” wasn’t a theory, it was fact.

What I do believe in is the datamined WoL character slots, “Jane” possibly being Kasumi Yoshizawa, and that I believe we’ll get at LEAST one first party in the pass and at LEAST one standalone female character.

But at the end of the day, it’s Sakurai’s decision and anything goes.
The other Mega Men are also blue, so clearly they are confirmed according to the color stuff. And Crash is orange, so he's got that covered. Let's get it fam.

It's not that I despise all third-parties or anything, it's just that the list is so broad that the odds of me getting one of the few third-parties from both a game I've played and one I actually want is slim. Nintendo characters have a better shot of getting in, and the list is waaaay smaller.

Basically, I have better chances of getting a Nintendo character that I like than I do with third-parties. It's what I grew up with, and it's what I'm most familiar with. I'd just prefer Sakurai sticking to the big names like Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man over more oddball choices like Bayonetta and Joker.

I'm certainly not saying this shouldn't be taken seriously because all suicide threats, regardless of whether or not they seem fake, are extremely important to address.

That being said, I can't bring myself to be as worried about him as everyome else is. He has my prayers, but I'm skeptical regardless.
I see. That definitely clarifies it a bit.

Which series or characters would you be alright with if they got into Smash? I know you said there were some you might like, but that their chances are slim, so i’m just curious.

He's dead and always will be.

He's dead on a level where they don't even bring out his corpse to dance around with like Microsoft and Banjo.

There will never exist a future in which Square Enix or Nintendo will acknowledge him beyond the most basic nod.

His character fanbase consists solely of people who've played a decades old RPG using Mario characters that hasn't gotten continued past its first game.

I'm curious to see what happens with Isaac in the future of Smash speculation. More than anything, it seems like the fans just want a new Golden Sun, and with the recent resurgence in pixelated and lower budget JRPGs, I wouldn't be surprised to see Nintendo give the series another go. I know Dark Dawn sold horribly and disappointed fans, but they made a big deal out of the series returning once, so I think, out of probably all the traditionally dead Nintendo series, Golden Sun has one of the better chances to come back at some point.

I think Isaac is absolutely dead for Ultimate though since he has an Assist Trophy, unless we get a real second Fighter's Pass that more heavily focuses on Nintendo IP. And honestly, that option seems pretty unlikely overall.

Also, as a side note, I love that some people talk of the "anime swordsman problem" all the time, but the likes of Sora, Isaac, Lloyd Irving, and others all regularly do extremely well on polls. That's the sort of thing that always makes me think that we don't actually have a problem with those types of characters. I'm sure they would all bring unique mechanics and moves like Hero, Cloud, Joker, etc. but I also suspect their standard aerials, jabs, tilts, etc. would also be pretty standard fare.

I personally always thought Quote and even Reimu seemed like good picks for an 'Indie' rep. They have a huge legacy behind them, have had major influence on at least indie games as a whole, and both have potential for really interesting movesets. Cave Story used to be THE defacto indie game, you gosh darned whippersnappers with your Shove All Nights and Shaun Tays.
Didn't Shantae 1 release before Cave Story? It was 2002 GBC game.

I still don't see why we should or should not get a character because they come from an indie game. If we can get Shovel Knight and Shantae content in Smash, there's no need for a ritual character to open the gates for a playable indie rep.
Yeah. You gotta Synchro Summon your characters into the game at least. Ritual Summons are pretty ho-hum these days.

I never understood why some people specifically push for Western characters and indie reps while ignoring the rest of their options. It shouldn't matter whether a character is indie or third-party. It could be a small bonus to getting the character in Smash, but I'd never invest all of my energy into getting a character for that sole purpose. Instead of supporting a character because they come from a specific company and you have some imaginary quota to fill, why not support a character because you genuinely like the character?

And that's coming from someone who hates a majority of third-parties characters.
It's just something neat to think about, at least to me. Hell, most wanted are still from Japanese franchises like Mega Man(X or BN) and Tekken. And those characters like Mega Man X, Jin Kazama or Ryu Hayabusa are characters I genuinely like. On the other hand, the same could be said of Fulgore and Sub-Zero. Or Shovel Knight and Shantae. Those last 4 examples, who just so happen to be either western or indie characters.

Some might take priority for it because they have a closer connection to those series, or feel that Smash primarily focusing on Japanese franchises tightens the scope of it's crossover appeal, as it's now the Video game crossover and not just the Nintendo crossover. I mean, sure, you gotta lot of western fans of Metroid, Punch-Out!!, FF, Mega Man, SF and Castlevania, but they are still Japanese series. While I have no idea what Western characters Japan really cares about other than Crash, and MK getting imported a lot because localizing it in Japan takes too much damn work.

As for the third party thing, I feel like they're a highlight of the game now. I grew up with a variety of games and systems(that we didn't always keep for long until I got older). The first video game I remember playing was Tekken 3, or playing MVC1 in the Arcade, and I played games on the GBA/GBC. Not that Nintendo characters can't still be exciting. I mean any game where we can actually play as Ridley and Ganondorf is hype as ****.

I can't convince you that third parties are sick though, and that's fair, for you they might not be interesting. In the same way no one can convince me that most other Zelda choices aren't mid as ****.

I honestly think what Nintendo should do is have a remaster of Golden Sun to gauge interest in the series.

Clearly there’s demand for the character or series. I know that I would buy a remaster. Golden Sun is a fun, almost relaxing game tbh. I’d love it.

Even with all the evil plan he has commited, even the good doctor has his good moment, and that no matter what happen in this franchise, Chao are to be cherished with love. :) (Because love surely made Cheese the most strongest Sonic character in the Advance games)

On that said, have a good time here, folks!

I'm mixed on Geno's chances. I probably shouldn't be, but I am.

We've gotten some other "Never Evers" just recently. But, and this'll sound a bit rude, Geno's far less known than even Banjo, who hasn't had a game in 10 years. He's a secondary character from a spin-off game that's 20 years old. And unlike other characters who haven't had a game in a while, they either have a bigger impact on gaming as a whole, or is at least the main character of their game(s). The closest thing one of my most wanted got was a re-release collection with a new mode thrown in, but has also shown up in a few crossovers recently.

However, I can't say it's impossible either, because, again, Banjo's actually in ****ing Smash Bros. And while Geno's far less relevant than most others, he DOES have support that rivals Ridley, K.Rool, and Banjo, who all made it in anyway. I think Sakurai himself even expressed interest in the guy, so if anything that makes me think he could still pop up one of these days.

I really don't care about Geno at all. I don't think he's bad, but he's a really weird character that doesn't feel like a Mario character. But I know a LOT of people do care about the guy. So for me, I'd only support on behalf of other people who want him in. That's all there is to it. He's got a ton of support, and I think that genuienly matters since, he's got nothing else going for him.

I hope I'm wrong, since relevancy shouldn't matter when crossover games bring in irrelevant characters all the time. Because who the **** actually remembers SonSon outside of Marvel 2, and Shuma-Gorath got in MVC3 while Venom, Gambit and literally anyone else didn't. Or when Project X Zone has some weird 90's anime character.

I apologize if I came off as rude.

One of the great things about Smash is, even with characters that didn't make it in, I'm more interested in them and curious about their games, Isaac being the most prominent. Especially as someone who missed out on most of the handheld games (I did own a Gameboy Advance, but hadn't heard of the series, mainly playing Mario and Sonic games).

Both characters definitely have their popularity, that's undeniable.

With them being "meme picks", there's not only the meme culture that surrounds both characters, but:

1) Waluigi gets a reaction of, "He'd be the number one AT upgrade! He'd also be perfect as the last pick as a joke!" Or, "that'd be soooo Waluigi like!' This type of stuff is said all the time, so when a leaker shows up and says, "Waluigi is in", people jump on it and are like, "It's actually happening!", when clearly there's more than enough reason to believe it's not going to happen in this game.

2) Undertale...I guess does have a notorious meme culture (just think about how much Sans is at the center of memes everywhere), and it's one of the most prominent Indie titles involved in "leaks". There's also the fact that compared to Mr. Indie, Shovel Knight, Undertale is pretty much treated as the GOAT by the fans of the game. Which is fine. But if you ask me, when there's an indie pick, it's going to be Shovel Knight.

Even one of my close friends said it himself. He's a huge Undertale fan, but he himself said Undertale likely wouldn't happen until Shovel Knight got in, popularity be damned. I realize this is anecdotal.

Basically, both characters get a similar reaction, and have memes posted literally everywhere. It's likely a biased opinion, but I frankly see them as meme picks for Smash. It doesn't mean there isn't real, genuine support for them. They deserve the support. I simply don't think they're going to happen, and appear in leaks frequently because of meme culture.
Firstly, a character being associated with memes doesn't make them a meme character. A large number of characters in Smash are associated with memes, such as Wolf ('Can't let you do that!'), Piranha Plant (#Plant Gang), Duck Hunt (the mocking laugh), Chrom (the memes that arose around his deconfirmation), Ridley (Too Big), and so on. Sans and Waluigi being associated with memes doesn't dismiss them as being popular characters, it just means that there are memes associated with the characters.

Now to get specific:

1) There are reactions like that, I won't deny, but those don't make up the entirety of the Waluigi fanbase. Like with every character, there are those in for just the jokes, but there are also a large number who are in because they genuinely like the character and are pushing for their inclusion because they want them in the game. Waluigi is no different, there are those reactions saying 'lol, wouldn't it be funny if he was the last character', but there are those that are hoping he'll make the jump later down the line.

2a) Being prominently involved in leaks doesn't dismiss their popularity though and makes them memes. Banjo popped up a good amount of times in leaks, including the infamous Grinch Leak, and not only would no one deny that he is popular, but also he was confirmed this past E3 regardless of his presence there. Saying those two are 'memes' while ignoring examples like Banjo or other popular characters does show a clear bias against those characters.

2b) The idea that Shovel Knight vs. Undertale comes down to who should be an 'Indie Rep' is a poor way to approach speculation here as Sakurai has not focused on his character choices like that, especially Third Party ones. He didn't pick Joker because he wanted an Atlus rep, he didn't pick Ryu because he wanted a Fighting rep, and he didn't pick Castlevania because it was a platforming rep. He picked those characters because their popularity, notability and other traits made them appealing as characters to him and thus characters he wanted in Smash. Joker and Persona 5 were notable games to him, so they were added, Ryu is an iconic character with a lot of history so he was chosen for that, and Castlevania is a classic and very popular IP and Simon is the face of that so he was chosen, and so on and so forth. If Shovel Knight was picked, it would've been because of the character's and IP's merits, if Undertale is picked instead, it's because that one stood out more, it's not a case of Shovel Knight or Undertale being better reps, but rather interesting characters and IPs.

2c) Even under the assumption that a character is chosen as an 'Indie rep', it's not like the character has a monopoly over the Indie scene. There are other choices that do have their own merits that can warrant them consideration and people do want those characters over Shovel Knight because they're attached to that character, and ignoring those options is the best way to get tunnel-visioned and then blindsided in speculation. Back in Smash 4 no one expected Rosalina because in the Smash bubble she was not a character people thought would be playable over Toad or other Mario characters, then December 2013 happened and she was confirmed. We didn't consider her traits and popularity within her series and thus that took us by surprise, but if we were more open to the possibility then we would've seen more of her merits and not write her off as a lesser option to the others.

In short, I feel that there is a bias here and you're letting it cloud how you're seeing these characters. There are memes associated with them, but that doesn't dismiss them as popular choices in and out of the Smash bubble. People do want those characters genuinely, and saying that they should be seen as 'meme picks' weaker then that of other choices is being dismissive of what they bring to the table.

Here's my issue with Geno: Outside the Smash community, he's the literal definition of a "literally who?" character. His last appearance outside Smash was a cameo in 2003, which was removed in the remake of the game. Unless you played Mario RPG, or are familiar with the whole Smash requests, then he's nearly unrecognizable to an audience. And then there's Square Enix, and if they wanted to put in another character from their games, then I highly doubt Geno would be their best bet, since they have more influental, recognizable and popular franchises like Tomb Raider and Kingdom Hearts.

Geno almost has nothing going for him at this point, he's not even that much popular in the grand scheme of things either, nowhere near Waluigi, Ridley, or K. Rool levels, heck, not even close to Isaac levels, not even Shadow levels. He's just... somewhere in popularity.

You’re right with some of these points. I’m simply going to leave it here that I don’t think for Smash Ultimate, that Waluigi or an Undertale character are getting in. I may not be able to properly articulate why, but it simply doesn’t seem like a real possibility, Waluigi especially.

The next Smash? Maybe. For Ultimate though, I doubt it’s happening. especially Waluigi.

Ghidorah was badass as hell too.
They did a really good job with the monster's themes. Godzilla's and Mothra's using their classic themes was a great choice and they were both updated very well, Ghidorah's incorporation of the Heart Sutra was very fitting for the character, and Rodan's made good use of the bongos and chanting itself. There was a good direction with the OST and it shows no better in how they approached representing the monster's in the music, and little details like that made me appreciate the movie more.
