So, my comprehensive thoughts on Origami King:
The game is pretty good tbh, a surprise to be sure but a welcome one. The dialouge and humor is as charming as ever, but this game also had some serious moments that caught me off guard. The game packs emotion, something that was lacking in SS and CS.

Now, for the things that I adored the most:
  • The overworld. The world map/level structure is gone, and what we have here is an extremely cohesive world that, while yeah, is basically the same as a level technically speaking, makes the game feel far more vast and open. Each area is packed with something to do, whether that be a dungeon, finding Toads, filling holes, or interacting with NPCs. And unlike TTYD, it doesn't suffer from hallway syndrome. The whole exploration bit is a +.
  • I really liked the puzzles as well. Unlike SPM, SS, and CS where each puzzle was easy to solve by the new fangled mechanic, this one switches it up. Sometimes you're completing a slide panel puzzle to get water to flow. Sometimes you're moving a slate of ice around to get to the next room. It has variety and none of then are too easy nor too hard with the exception if one of the slide puzzles.
  • The Bosses: I liked these far more than the enemy battles. While strategy is involved with both, the bosses take far more brainpower to do, and even if you make a path, you have to be mindful on what to do. You can't brute force any of the bosses, and each one has a unique stategy. For example, Rubber Band has to be attacked with the 1000 Fold Arms otherwise there will be no damage as he can heal himself. Colored Pencils has to be attacked from the back, while doing any kind of jump on Scissors instantly kills you. They also got rid of the stupid trial and error crap SS and CS, so that's a plus.
  • Coins are actually useful this time around. Sometimes, I have like 40k coins, but after buying like 3 accesories, I'm down to like 3k. In a way, it makes battling worth it in some rgards as there's nowhere near enough coins on the overworld to actually buy useful items.
  • The visuals are great.
  • The soundtrack is phenominal.
  • Bobby is a top 3 character in the entire franchise.
  • Bowser isn't the villian. In fact, you never fight him.
  • Luigi is useful

Things that I felt could have used some improvement:
  • Enemy battles weren't bad, but they can be a bit much. The enemy variety is some of the best the series has, there's no "repeats of enemies, but in terms of battling, they can be a bit... uneeded at points? The puzzle solving themselves stumped me a lot of the times tbh.
  • Partners: In terms of characters themselves, they are pretty good. Bobby is a fantastic character, Kamek, Bowser, and Bowser Jr are characters that need no explanation. Professor Toad is the weakest of the bunch, but he isn't too bad either. However, in terms of battling, they range from useless to OP. Bobby SUCKS at battles since he trips 75% the time, but Professor Toad, Kamek, and Bowser straight up end battles for you, and with the Ally Tambourine, they become broken as ****. I wish you were able to control them in battles like the first 2, as I feel as if that would have gone a long way in improving the enemy encounters. Also, Bobby doesn't enter dungeons which is odd as Professor Toad (not for the Vellumental Temple) Kamek, Jr., and Bowser do.
  • King Olly's motivation is kinda wack. But I do love his plan. His first phase is disappointing, but his 2nd and 3rd phase were hype.

Overall, a solid 8-8.5/10. A great game that I can fully recommend for those looking for a good game on the Switch. Might as well get it since nothing else is coming out soon.

Summer vacation starts in two weeks and will last for two-three weeks in Japan. We’ve been in school since June 1st. However, starting tomorrow, we will have a four day weekend. It will be the saddest four day weekend in memory because 1) it was created to celebrate the opening of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 2) the government is encouraging citizens to stay home or to travel locally and to avoid going to hotspots like Tokyo or other large cities. Basically, the theme for this weekend is “stay home and pretend like you are watching the Olympics”. Everyone was super excited for them here. It was every where you go, there was a mass globalization of Japan and importation of English onto anything that had Japanese on it, and even the mountains schools with like eight kids total were having English classes three times a week as opposed to one day.

Everything is now...just dead lol. It’s gonna be a sad long weekend. The virus didn’t only crush Japan financially but it crushed the country’s spirit and Genkiness. While they are on track for next year, it’s going to cost the country over $6 billion dollars to postpone it which sucks as Japan is already in a deep rescission. Even before the virus. If they have to cancel the Olympics altogether, which is an idea that’s being floated currently, it’s going to cost Japan over $50 billion and, could potentially, destroy the country’s financial system.

We were going to take our kids to the zoo (about two hours away) since, during quarantine, all my eldest wanted to to do was watch zoo videos and read zoo books. But we cancelled our trip due to an explosion of COVID cases near and around the zoo.

So like, has there even been a case where review bombing actually worked or rather, did something?
TLoU2 bombing prompted Metacritic to respond and delete user reviews.

Does that count?

As someone who doesn't have a 3DS anymore, been itching to play a few games on it but working with "Alternate reality" games always has me a bit sketch.

The best thing you can do while on Metacritic is look up the reviews for the Cory In The House. The critics slam the game and make it out to be a mess, while the user reviews make it out to be an emotional, enthralling life-changing experience. The disparity between the two is the cherry on top.

5 AM and Will's not sleeping baby, you already know it's music time.

****ing beautiful rock band from Australia, both of their albums are symphonic jams. I mean it's technically post-hardcore by its labeling company, but it's got so many influences from ska and has heavy King Crimson vibes in some of their songs. I heavily recommend this band to anyone.

A defunct prog. emo band, they lasted until 2011 and only made one big album. I like the vocalist, maybe just because I'm a big Donovan Melero fan and he sings similarly. The guitar work is also on ****ing point.

A neat alt. rock band, they have a unique backup vocalist sound combined with brass instruments mixed in with their guitars.

I don't like any Coletta songs except this one. I tolerate the screaming this once to jam to those ****ing xylophones.

Direct Hit! is a band that either wants to be really punk or really hardcore. I'm really only there for the punk side.

This song is a ****ing masterpiece of the 2010s, I keep forgetting to mention it for people who don't know who Modern Baseball is.

My friend really likes Megosh, and I think their songs are cool.

And now I am prepared to either be ignored or shamed for music tastes. :091:

No but I've heard of the Chuckle Brothers.

View attachment 279609

I am probably the only person who would get this. Maybe dezeray112 dezeray112 as well, guessing his age. ChuckleVision was pretty British 90's.

"To me, to you, to me, to you."
I certainly do know who this iconic British duo are and that is Paul "Chuckle" Elliot and the late Barry "Chuckle" Elliot of ChuckleVision. ChuckleVision is one of the shows which made British Children's TV shows quite iconic in the 90's and funnily enough, I do recall that they had a children's gameshow dubbed as "To Me, To You."

The other iconic British Children TV shows that I remember watching back when I was a child which include Thomas the Tank Engine (in the years it had Beatles star Ringo Starr as the narrator), Pingu, CBBC's Playdays, CITV's It's a Mystery, Art Attack, Finders Keepers, Fun House as well as certain cartoons that were so good at the time.

Another classic British TV show that I remembered watching in the late 90's was a show called Robot Wars, a robot combat competition which is quite similar to Battlebots with the exception that the hazards are the house robots.

EDIT: Here is one of the episodes of the Robot Wars Series 2 Grand Final which aired back in 1998 and one of the greatest surprises as Welsh robot Panic Attack took on favourites Cassius:

Dude, you don't even know. That stuff was my childhood along with anything from Challenge and the 2000s Disney. I literally came here from a robot combat forum. I used to have a lot of stuff from that show. Got rid of all of it some years back.

And yes that episode was legendary. although I'd say series 3 or 5 was the best ones. Problem is that I can't go back and watch it now. There's too much fluff to digest it.
And Craig Charles the host. One of the most underappreciated people on British TV and you can tell he enjoys his job. He killed it in everything he did from Red Dwarf to Takeshi's Castle. Then he went to Coronation Street for some reason.

Now thinking about it with my love for robots though......

I learned that Waluigi’s real name is Jimmy Poppadopolos.
View attachment 279703
I like that this suggests that Waluigi changed his name to align with a guy he met through an actor-for-hire site, and to oppose the brother of his contractor's enemy. That's good business when your name is the customer's choice. Either that or he took a liking to Wario and decided to become a dynamic duo with him.

Panic Attack, Terrorhurtz and Razer were my faves back then. Also got to note the Diotoir team as well for always catching their bot on fire everytime.

The BBC did do a Robot Wars revival from 2016 up to 2018 when they pulled the plug on the show again. My faves from the reboot include Carbide and Apollo.

Several Robot Wars and British competitors compete in the US competition Battlebots from past to present. John Reid's Killerhurtz was the only British competitor to make it very far in the competition by making it to the semi-finals in the 2000 edition. Here are the highlights from the 2020 edition run:
