You know fire and ice aren’t opposites either right?
Late to the discussion but: for what its worth, most of the accumulated scientific knowledge we have today is collected by religious people, including but not limited to pagan, Islamic and Christian scholars. A lot of modern scientists accept that religion and science can co-exist as long as you know which one ends where.

I get it, institutionalized religion has a history of supressing scientific discoveries that threatens its power but that's only a part of the whole. Not every religion requires you to blindly follow its dogmas, some actively encourages its followers to question their faith and nature.

Religion and science has a long, complex relationship and reducing it to polar opposites doesn't do it justice. This is coming from an atheist, btw.

Tried out Piccolo. Not very successful with him right now.

My best team by far is probably Cooler - Beerus - Tien. I mean I change who I'm best with every week but those have been my aces since the start.

Playing with Cooler on point is frustrating, but I don't like playing Beerus on point so I gotta swallow my pride lol

Exactly and let's not forget certain religious periods helped propel science more than people think (Islamic Golden Age for instance).
And there are some people who has the mentality of science progresses humanity, religion regresses but that's another story.

I've my issues with religion and all that, understanding that it played a role in where I live and how it affected where you live in places.

However it's places where it is forced upon you is where I hate it so much.

What we see as the truth one day may be over taken by a more complete understanding the next. Is an outdated sci-fi story inspired by outdated science anything different then a fantasy story in hindsight?

Here's how I see it - Sci-fi is a fun way for authors to explore what could be true, and fantasy is a way to explore things that aren't. There's more overlap in those two categories then you might think.

I hope this post isn't as confusing to people as I think it is.

And honestly, trying to explain everything just sucks the fun and mystery out of things.

I don't need to know what Cthulhu is or how Cthulhu works to realize "Cthulhu scary, Cthulhu bad."

When you said “aren’t” I’m pretty sure you meant to say “couldn’t”
That’s it.

Sci-fi and fantasy overlap so much that I don't think we need a concrete border between them but I like your view on it.

That's part of why I'm not too interested in Cthulhu Mythos worldbuilding made after Lovecraft's works.

why does that dog look so scary why did they give it so much expression
surely somebody at the studio had to realize that they were about to dive straight into the uncanny valley, right?
Good thing I like expressive animals.
(It's funny how Godzilla himself can have more expressions than the animals from live action Lion King.)

Expressive animals are absolutely fine in a movie like The Lion King.
No humans, and you need to progress the plot somehow, and it’d be boring if they were just normal, not talking lions. Nobody will notice because it seems normal when it’s like that for everybody.
But when you take that and slap it right next to a human, it ends up being weird and creepy. Is that really a dog anymore? Or is it just some old man hiding in a dog suit? That’s where it gets into the uncanny valley. It got too realistic, and too expressive. It’s not good for my health to keep looking at it (and also staying up till 6) so bye

I think it depends on how far they go with the expressions, real life dogs can be more expressive than you think...

Fair enough.
Like you said, it definitely depends on how far they go, but I also feel the intention is at play. When a dog makes a silly face or is ‘smiling’ at you, 9 times out of 10, that expression doesn’t translate from dog to human correctly. They might be happy, but them looking like they have a human smile isn’t how we know they’re happy.
With the uncanny valley stuff, you can tell what they’re going for. Their expressions match those of a human, and their emotions actually match their expressions. And it’s super freaky imo.
Sorry if that was complicated or just boring to read

Saw a physical copy of Wonderful 101 remastered on Switch for 45 euros at my local retailer today which I definitely wasn't expecting. Didn't take the opportunity there tho. Would you guys recommend it? Heard there are some performance issues but I hope it's not anything major.

I can see where you’re coming from. I haven’t seen the film or any BTS footage yet, mainly the trailers and a couple scenes so I don’t know how far they go. Maybe it could seem more believable if they dialed back the expressions in downtime or make them more subtle and make it more major expressions could stand out better? Did they have any IRL dogs on set to model the CG after? If not that probably could’ve helped greatly.

I know the thumbnail is a little odd but check this boyo out:

Well I'll be home in about 2 or so hours.

A short flight and then I'll be showing the goats pictures. The greatest animal.
And back into story.

I'll sum up my opinion of the live action Lion King in just a few words: No "Be Prepared," No Buy.

On a slightly less sardonic note, for me there was not a lot to love about Lion King 2019. The presentation, the CG, all of the aesthetics are there and it is legit gorgeous in areas. I dug it. The casting was pretty damn good, too. Inclusive, even. Beyond that, however, it felt almost...empty. Like I can't even begin to tell you the feeling I got when everything got a-rolling, because I didn't feel anything. There was no energy. It was flat, almost somber-seeming. And it never really...picked up.

One of the things I loved about the original (btw, it's prob in my personal Top 3 Disney flicks) was the fact that it had sweeping highs and deep, resonant lows. There was so much heart in all its manic glory (as is the Disney way). The remake...didn't quite have that. Everything was subdued, dialed back to the point of flatness. Even the musical numbers in the remake lacked the ability to rise to the occasion! It failed on so many levels to capture even a fraction of the original's energy.

(Thing that gets me is the guy that plays Scar, Chiwetel Ejiofor, has some pipes on him. Yet the rendition of Be Prepared in the film was like...him talking over a beat. He has vocal range, use it, dammit!)

Though there is one hitch about the presentation I previously glowed about that I'd be remiss not to mention: Expressiveness. Yeah, I'm kind of in agreement with the rest of the detractors here and beyond: It's bad. If it wasn't for the pitch and delivery of some of the lines, I'd be convinced that this story was all told through the eyes of a real-life Doctor Doolittle or some ****, watching jaws and jawls move in a weird uncanny valley kinda way. Or I guess a less flattering sentiment would be photo-realistic animatronics talking through the parameters of their rigid design. I dunno. Regardless, this is probably the area where its aesthetics, while gorgeous, I would have gladly sacrificed for a more...stylized version of the Lion King's world. If only cause it was really ****ing hard to take **** seriously when a talking lion was talking.

But yeah, I...didn't like the remake, lol. If you did, great, more power to you.

I can kinda respect the remakes that try something different even if it doesn’t work, most of the ones that stick way too close to the original feel pointless, like you’re just going through a slightly different version of the same story beats with significantly less soul or heart.

I've watched the Lion King live action last year. Overall, the CGI is the best aspect throughout the film, however it does suffer a number of missed opportunities that they could've adapted from the beloved animated version.

It will be interesting to see how Disney's next live action film Little Mermaid will fare.

Paper Mario: Origami King is sitting at a healthy 81 on Metacritic with 50 reviews in.

In comparison, Color Splash and Sticker Star didn't reach 80. The next ranked game, Super Paper Mario, is at an 85.
