My look of confusion upon seeing resident evil in smash.

Oh, so RE is disconfirmed? Darn. Real big hit on a hugely speculated series. Guess There's Dante, Lloyd, and Pheonix as frontrunners now. Maybe 2B, maybe KOS-MOS, maybe Sora or Heihachi although I feel like one or two of those were disconfirmed at one point.

Do we know for certain which company the character is from?

2B and Kosmos are out because Smash is for good boys and girls

Yeah, I’m actually real disappointed right now. I’m sorry if I annoyed anybody with my Resident Evil tirades and talking about it. I’ve really come a long way in loving the series, having played 80% of it in the last 2-3 years. I loved the gameplay, and the characters. Considering the series itself, I really just thought it would be in.

Alas, I was clearly wrong. Some folks are trying to stoke the flames of hope in me, that it means something for later on. For all I know, maybe spirits don’t disconfirm. Maybe Resident Evil 2 Leon will come later.

In my heart though...I’m pretty sure it’s over. One of my latest favorite series ends up as a set of Spirits.

This is a major missed opportunity. Some of the most iconic characters in gaming are out. Jill, one of the first major female characters, Chris “Boulder killer” Redfield, and of course Leon Kennedy. I’m pretty sad.

Like I’ll be fine. Just real sad right now.

I mean, now you kinda gotta expand your outlook a bit, no? Resident Evil has 0 relation to Smash outside of being a Capcom owned IP, with nothing else in the game, yet this is by definition a "New World."


TBH, I don't think your belief structure of "They'll all be 3rd parties" is as strong as it once was.

Y'know with the new Resident Evil Spirit Board event being announced, to me this just proves the argument of "Spirits deconfirming characters" even more.

Think about it. If there actually is a character from RE in development as of now, wouldn't it make common sense to save those Spirits from the event for the main Challenger Pack in it's DLC Spirit Board? This can apply for a Gen 8 Pokemon too.

Honestly, the way I see it, spirits are to fight alongside characters who didn't make it into the finished roster. Pretty much any character not represented in the roster is eligible in my eyes.

I could see Piranha Plant being the puppet fighter. The green one, specifically. Both Piranha Plants and Creeper's are basic enemies in their respective games, they both have a somewhat similar body structure, etc.

Someone mentioned Sora. I think that's a perfect example of a character I don't particularly want. But would be hype for a TON of people. Dude's been rather popular since Brawl or so.

That said, out of the recent characters on people's tounges, I hope that it's Dante.

Resident Evil being out of the running does nothing to the outlook of the picks will be "all 3rd parties". They're not connected to one another.

Resident Evil being disconfirmed simply shows what we should have known all long: sales don't matter. Do I think legacy should? Sure. But sales won't matter. My outlook is that the crossover gets bigger the more 3rd parties they bring into Smash. 1st parties, especially those already in the game in some capacity, don't expand the crossover in a way that 3rd parties do.

They're not connected, and therefore I'm not quite sure what point you're trying to make here. Are you saying people shouldn't listen to my thoughts on spirits and 1st parties because I was wrong about Resident Evil? People can believe whatever the hell they want.

People shouldn't have to listen to me to form an opinion, if that's what you're saying. The "New Worlds" and Resident Evil being out doesn't do anything to the belief structure of "They'll all be 3rd parties". I don't see the connection.

Did sales EVER matter? Because, I mean, SNK. SNK was literally on the verge of bankruptcy until very recently. And then there's Banjo.



And I disagree. They're willing to throw an IP that has 0 relation to Smash aside from company ownership as a Spirit, who is to say they won't do this to others? Minecraft? Tekken? Halo? Tales of?


Nothing is 'safe' anymore. There's no patterns. Sales numbers mean nothing.


It's time to stop trying to figure things out and to simply let things happen naturally. When leakers talk, then we talk, but trying to cook the books and rationalize things why X series or character makes perfect sense and why they're head and shoulders about others is pretty pointless IMO.

Hot damn DMC ruled out for FP5 by insiders, and Resident Evil looking out of the DLC picture altogether due to the timing of this spirit event.

IF Capcom are next, then you know...I might have a glimmer of belief in me...

But seriously, hope this makes people stop looking at every business decision as a hint for Smash. Resident Evil and DOOM got a lot of attention yet both are not happening this pass.
