Did sales EVER matter? Because, I mean, SNK. SNK was literally on the verge of bankruptcy until very recently. And then there's Banjo.
And I disagree. They're willing to throw an IP that has 0 relation to Smash aside from company ownership as a Spirit, who is to say they won't do this to others? Minecraft? Tekken? Halo? Tales of?
Nothing is 'safe' anymore. There's no patterns. Sales numbers mean nothing.
It's time to stop trying to figure things out and to simply let things happen naturally. When leakers talk, then we talk, but trying to cook the books and rationalize things why X series or character makes perfect sense and why they're head and shoulders about others is pretty pointless IMO.
You're missing my point.
Other 3rd parties getting spirits
still means nothing when it comes to 1st parties. As I've said all along, the
only Nintendo games I thought would be getting playable characters would be Astral Chain and Three Houses if spirits disconfirm and they don't get spirits.
Now, here we are.
I come to Smashboards to talk about Smash, and to
literally figure out the next picks. It's fun. I don't even really care when I'm wrong either. Does it hurt when a favorite gets shut out? Yes. It doesn't mean I'm going to give up trying to figure it out.
You can sit here all you want and tell me to "stop trying to figure things out", but even at 26 years old I find this fun. If you don't, that's fine. But I'm going to keep enjoying myself.
For the record, I don't expect Minecraft or Halo to get playable fighters anyway.
