IGN saying that only confirms Hop gets a new Pokemon in between battles but it says nothing to what Pokemon they are.
If the leak is true, then no one can show footage of that first battle exactly because it's an unrevealed Pokemon

While I hope the sabertooth tiger fossil is true, I just want a proper tiger for once. So far we only have Arcanine (who is based on a Shisa) and Raikou (another sabertooth and a legendary to boot). It's a shame we nearly got Kotora not once, but twice and yet it never worked out.

So it sounds like Zacian and Zamazenta are simultaneously identical and polar opposites of Reshiram and Zekrom. Both were originally enemies from opposing sides, but they joined forces to take down a greater threat.

That's actually a pretty decent backstory for these two, though I'm just relieved they weren't shoved in some random cave without having any involvement with the main story.

Also, they have Gigantamax forms, and that by itself means they're superior to Xerneus and Yveltal, who didn't get squat in the Gen that invented Megas.

I like Sobble, but I really hope the whole going from sad to edgy-sad doesn't turn out to be true, I don't know if my heart could take an eternally sad Pokemon.
As for the spy thing, I actually find it a tad disappointing if true. I mean, sure, it makes sense for a chameleon, but it feels a bit too similar in theme to Greninja, who isn't even that old yet. I think it would've been better to make a spy chameleon a normal Pokemon, instead of a starter and maybe make it a Grass type, that would do a lot to really differentiate Greninja and Sobble from one another.
Not saying it's bad, but it just feels a tad too soon.

Okay so for those who want to know what was in the AMA collage leak, I've transcribed it all to text here. I've bolded the things that have seemingly been confirmed. I've also separated story spoilers into their own separate spoiler tag inside the first one.

Final Starter Types: Grass/Rock, Fire/Steel, Water/Ghost. Grookey is a big gorilla with rock pecs that it bangs like a drum to make a beat. Carries a club/drumstick. Intimidating but cheerful. Scorbunny is a soccer player with metal feet. "About as Steel type as Lucario is." Sobble is still sad, but less cute-sad and more edgy-sad. It goes invisible in its idle animation. Shy but sneaky. Leaker compared it to Randall from Monsters Inc lmao.

Sobble gets Toxic, Ice Beam, and Surf, but not Facade. Facade is no longer a TM.

Curry is a mix of O Powers and Poffins. You can change your backpack.

Corviknight is a third stage.
Corvipage - Normal/Flying
Corvijack - Steel/Flying

Wooloo evolves into Ramabam. Pure Normal.

Skwovet and Greedunt are Ground types.

Polteageist has a teacup pre-evolution called Bantea.

Three stage Dark/Flying type Fluffy Bat Pokémon.

Wizard Penguin apparently fake.

The "elephant" Pokémon is Water/Steel, based on a decorative watering can "Doesn't look as manmade" as the silhouette made it out to be.

The weird looking mystery Mon by the water is a Normal/Fairy type. Known as the Intimidation Pokémon. So frightening that they scare themselves.

Rock/Fairy gnome that evolves into a troll. Gnoll and Gnolossus.

Poison/Psychic frogs. Ribbix evolves into Hypnoxious. Has high special attack.

Rolycoly evolves into a Rock/Fire motorcycle thing. Compared it to Boldore where it didn't look like an actual thing.

Pure Ice Snowman.

Fossil Pokémon are a Rock/Ice Sabertooth tiger and a Rock/Fighting Wooly Rhinoceros.

Pseudo-legend is a Fairy/Fighting three stage Centaur/Minotaur hybrid line.

Drampa is in, but this was already confirmed.

Zamazenta is Steel/Fire. Zacian is Steel/Water. Eternatus is Poison/Ground. Looks cute but becomes terrifying mid-battle, compared to Hoopa by the leaker. Compared beast form to a scary mix of Deoxys and Lucario. Eternal Pokémon.

Electric/Flying Galarian Chatot, evolves into Cacophatoo.

Galarian Meowth evolves into Felixity. Normal/Ghost.

Rigaraf is Dark. Girafarig evolution?

Ground type Galarian Starly. Ground/Fighting Galarian Staravia and Staraptor.

Ghost/Fairy Galarian Parasect.

Galarian Rapidash is Psychic/Flying and a pegasus.

Ice/Psychic Galarian Stantler.

Ice type Galarian Musharna.

No Galarian Klink, just Unovan Klink.

No Dunsparce evolution. No Ouroboros Pokémon either.

Poison type sewer rat, Sneesqueak. Evolves into Kingsqueak, Poison/Dark.

Impidimp evolves into Sprivlry, looks "a bit dumb," like a bigger Impidimp.

Sinnoh/Unova styled tutorial (confirmed).

Sigilyph doesn't evolve.

Rolycoly can be obtained before the first gym (seemingly confirmed?). A mine and a spooky forest are before the gym.

Two new Bug lines. One is a Bug/Water type that evolves into a Bug/Dragon type. The other is an ant that evolves into a Bug/Flying type if male, and Bug/Psychic if female.

There are 27 Pokémon with Galarian Forms. Non-Galar versions aren't in. Excluding the cross evolutions there are 22.

There are 73 brand new non-event non-Galarian Form Pokémon.

Cross-Gen Evolutions are Obstagoon, Sirfetch'd, Cacophatoo, Rigaraf, and Felixity.

Gigamax Forms that haven't yet been confirmed:
Lapras, Snorlax, Granbull, Steelix, Tyranitar, Gardevoir, Flygon, Milotic, Hippowdon, Lucario, Togekiss, Weavile, Zorua, Sawk, Throh. Says there are others they may have forgotten.

Said Gigantamax Charizard looked like a mix of both its Megas. This proved to be accurate.

New Pokémon that can Gigantamax:
Duraludon, Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus

Kanto, Sinnoh, and Kalos starters return. Mewtwo and Mew are the only returning old legendaries (presumably excluding Meltan/Melmetal).

Mentions no Ultra Beasts, but not sure if they meant new ones or returning ones.

Including Mew, the Dex has 651 Pokémon. Cuts are roughly even across generations.

Old Pokémon lines returning:

STORY/PLOT STUFF:

Hop has two Pokémon in his first rival battle; Starter and Corvipage.

Gym types: Grass, Fire, Water, Fighting/Ghost, Fairy, Ice/Dark, Rock, Dragon


Elite Four works differently. There IS no Elite Four. You get entered into a tournament bracket with characters you've met earlier and some randos. Champion is Ross, NOT Leon.

Kort is to Kurt as Samson Oak was to Samuel Oak. Apricorn Balls are back.

Eternatus is heavily tied to the lore. It was supposedly the source of corruption in the world and has been here since the beginning. Zacian and Zamazenta were guardians of two warring factions in ancient Galar.

Leon is a fraud and was given a suped up Charizard (like, totem Pokémon stats on a normal Pokémon). He one-shots Marnie's Jellicent and this is why Team Yell is very upset because they know he cheated. It's later exposed that Leon is a fraud after a Colress-branded machine is used by Oleena. This happens roughly one-third through the game. Early previews say the game starts with a Champion battle where Leon defeats "someone they couldn't say" with Charizard, providing evidence for this.

Post-game has a Looker quest involving Meltan. Older E4 members come back for Elite Four rematches, such as Aaron, Bruno, Bertha, Sydney, and Drake.

After you leave the starting town on a train, you access the Wild Area very early. Early impressions confirmed an early Wild Area.

Massive city in the north is where the climax happens. Red stadium is the league. Tower is Ross HQ.

No Red, Blue, Wallace, or Steven. Lance, Cynthia, Alder, and Diantha show up.
