Sora's not really Square Enix. He's more Disney seeing as Disney owns the intellectual property rights to all unique KH characters. This post detailing youtuber HMK's interview of Disney Japan VP and General Manager Justin Scarpone outlines the entire process well. While Sora would need approval from Square Enix (which is easy given Hashimoto has voiced support for Sora in the past and Normura and Sakurai hit it off with Cloud's inclusion in Smash), Nintendo would mostly be dealing with Disney.

Disney and SE are like a stingy licensing match made in heaven.

Sora has the demand, but I really do doubt if Nintendo could ever obtain the rights to KH. We already see that SE is a challenge by itself, so adding Disney to the mix just complicates things to an almost unimaginable amount.

disney cares about their big names like mickey and donald duck but I doubt they care too much about sora

I think Sakurai could easily get the rights, the greater question would be if Sakurai feels like he needs disney characters to do KH

Stingy Square Enix is a myth.

Furthermore, Normura and Hashimoto, two SE execs, are already on board, so SE is pretty much a non-factor. Disney's the only real challenge to Sora's inclusion, and even then with the success of Smash Ultimate and KH3 I can totally see Disney using Sora to promote the game.

even just getting a square character alone seems a decent-enough accomplishment

now i'm just imagining the world where sakurai gave FF7 the full joker/banjo/terry treatment with party members/key characters popping up in the background and i made myself sad

tbf a lot of smash 4's stages aren't nearly as nice as ultimate's

midgar is pretty good in comparison to something like Wily Castle

I like Umbra Clock Tower and Midgar but Mementos, Yggdrasil's Altar and Spiral Mountain are seriously some of the best stages in the game, and from the brief glimpse we got the KoF stage isn't slouching either. Hopefully fighter 5 and maybe the other DLC characters keep with the trend.

I know it wasn't much, but I really enjoyed Suzaku Castle in Smash 4. It's a good looking stage that's great to take a break from all the craziness of Smash. Sometimes, simple is better, and IMO, that was the best new DLC stage of Smash 4.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's a myth just because they requested alts. Even if DQ was treated better than FF, we still don't have any remixes, nor do we have any English VAs.

Honestly, Hero probably wouldn't have gotten as much as he did if SE didn't see it as an opportunity to promote DQ.

Anyway, Smash 4 DLC suffered with one character syndrome, in that the DLC was just one character with almost no supporting characters making a cameo in any sort of way. Ryu, Cloud, and Bayo kinda felt out of place since the DLC was just them and nothing a bit extra on the side. Like, Joker had all the Phantom Theives, Hero brought Slime and Tockels, Banjo had Kazooie, plis some backround characters, and Terry has some fighters appearing in the backround.

Like, Cloud and Bayo had... summons and enemies I guess. Ryu had... nothing.

Heroes say the spells they're casting, right? Sakurai pointed that out iirc
Ness doesn't say anything but English and Kirby actually DOES speak English, they had his actress ssy Shulk's Monado Arts in English alongside Japanese
