I'd recommend against it unless you really really, and I mean, REALLY wanna fight sans, I'd just look up a YouTube let's play. "You're gonna have a bad time" sums up Genocide in a nutshell

Pokemon fans would rage no matter who the Pokemon is. We could get Gen 3 representation in terms of Blazekin, but people will be pissed that it wasn't Sceptile and vice versa. We can get a Gen 5 character, but good luck having fans have a clear consistent answer on who deserves to be in. We could get Gen 8, and they would scream shill pick. And God forbid we get another Gen 1 rep, that would cause a nuclear meltdown.

It this point, Pokémon just needs to have their own dedicated Smash style fighting game...

I mean, I personally think we're still getting mostly, if not entirely, 3rd party content. But I'm basing that on a few different observations I have, and the opinions of people who I value quite a bit (not to say I don't value opinions held here...I like being able to discuss things about Smash with people who have different views).

Obviously, I have particular wants. However, I do still want to propose the following thoughts going forward.

1) Considering the first fighter pass, and the fact that Sakurai unmistakably referred to the "record" that Smash has shattered and continues to expand upon with "gaming worlds", it should be considered "likely" that we're going to see more new franchises, or at the very least new games receive playable characters in Smash.

2) There is precedent that future Fighters will bring entirely new content in their Challenger Packs. This is possible, in the future, for particular 1st and 3rd party characters. Astral Chain is effectively the most "free from Smash" series, as its brand new. Three Houses and Sword & Shield are new entries, but not new franchises.

It should be noted that a Challenger Pack that goes against this would be the first of its kind.

3) Adding new franchises is what adds to the record that Smash Ultimate has...smashed. Seeing as there are fewer 1st parties that can truly "expand" Smash in terms of playable picks, I would advise folks to expect more 3rd parties in the incoming second batch of characters.

4) While this may be personal speculation of mine, I think it's entirely possible that we get a Season 2, like many other games have. Considering alt costume characters () we're nearing roughly 90 characters. I don't know about you, but I think that's a rather...enticing benchmark for the man that already has the "biggest crossover in gaming history under his belt". This is also a guy who doesn't think he'll have this chance again.

This is his magnum opus. I obviously have nothing to back it up...but we're frankly in territory that has interesting implications.

My vision of Smash may differ from many on this website, and many others in the fanbase. I started playing Smash when the original came out for the 64. I put countless hours into it. I played likely over at least 1000 hrs into Melee. Brawl was the first step to getting me out of "Nintendo-only" territory. But Wii U is really what put me on this trend.

My dream scenario...is one in which this roster has every and any gaming icon imaginable, besides those that are truly unretrievable...with this I refer to Nathan Drake, or Kratos.

We're in territory where this game can have all top 10 Japanese gaming series ( Mario, Sonic, Pac-Man, Street FIghter, Dragon Quest, Metal Gear, Pokemon, Zelda, Dragon Quest, Resident Evil) all in the same game. We could literally have a matchup of Mario v Ryu v Terry Bogard v Heihachi...some of the most influential and iconic fighting game characters, all in the same video game. We could have Link vs. Cloud vs. Hero vs. Sora, effectively 4 of the most iconic blades in gaming, cross each other. While not as iconic, making it an 8-character battle royale with Marth, Shulk, Ike, Roy...I suppose even Dante could fit that.

We could have that fated crossover of Dante vs. Bayonetta...Should Crash Bandicoot join the battle, not only do we have the "War of the 90's" in Smash, but it also takes any and all wind out of the sails of a potential PSASBR 2, considering Smash would be able to brag about the matchup of Cloud v Solid Snake v Joker v Crash v Heihachi.

You could even go for the NES Classic Mashup, with Mario v Link v Samus v Simon v Ryu Hayabusa v Ice Climbers v Duck Hunt v Kirby.

Then you have the obvious blindsiding of the Sans costume, which gives the authentic feeling of playing as the dude himself. Imagine, coupling that, with a Shovel Knight costume of similar integrity.

I certainly see the value of having particular Nintendo characters added. However, in this stage of the game, I simply see the dream of mine as something...having never been closer to a reality for Sakurai to accomplish. He's said he aims to make Smash the "greatest character game", he stressed that Ultimate is "the biggest crossover in gaming history", that he "wants to expand upon the record whenever possible"...doing just that with the Fighter Pass, bringing in 5 entirely new series.

If we consider both genders of Pokemon to be different characters, and include Terry Bogard and Challenger #5, we're at 92 characters. Not movesets, but characters in this game. If Smash Ultimate continues on the path it has set forth, not only with the records of series crossing over continue to go up, but so will be the total number of fighters.

This is why, to me, there is exponentially more value at this point in adding the best of the best, biggest of the big, creme de la creme series. Ultiamte has toppled mountains, but that doesn't mean it can't make a throne out of those mountains, which will, in fact, never be toppled.

This, my friends, is what I want to see Smash become. It may differ greatly in some areas. But as a Nintendo fan through and through...I wish to convince others to share in that vision for this game. No Smash after Ultimate will truly outshine it. It will exist in the shadow of this game.

I probably sound preachy. To some, maybe crazy. But if it's a crazy idea to literally go all out, making this the undefeatable, immovable, unstoppable, greatest gaming crossover in the history of the medium because it goes completely in with 3rd parties...then I'm alright with crazy.

I feel as if Pokemon fans would not want an 8th gen rep in Smash due to all the controversy (Deserved imo ) regarding the new games.

I don't really think that would as big of a deal when it comes to Smash b/c people would probably be more focused on the Pokemon themselves rather than the game they originate from imo.

That being said...

We've seen only a handful of Pokemon so far, so it's kinda hard to imagine a potential SwSh rep when we only know like... a 1/4-1/3 of the new Pokemon (assuming it has around the same # of new Pokemon of course).

Ok. How about this. Some observations.

I was looking at the character select screen, and I noticed that there is a significant ammount of black space on either side that wasn't there before. Enough to move Jigglypuff back up to the top row, and everything else moved to the space it was in before. Just with a new row at the bottom. I have a good feeling that this will probably happen after a certain amount of characters get added to the game. Now, currently, the bottom row has approximately 5 additional spaces. Terry and #5 with 3 new characters. But if you move to fill in the space on the side, that adds in two additional slots. enough for a whole additional 5 character pass. Now, I know we shouldn't be looking at the UI decisions for roster hints, I just think this is interesting.

Main reason they went to 12 per row is b/c having a character in a row by themselves would look kinda weird, so they just shifted it in a way that the 7th row would look less awkward.

But since we know that 13 can fit in row, it leaves a decent # of spaces available w/o shrinking the sizes of the character panels any further (which could be kind of problematic if they shrink them down more than they already are).

Suggesting another Pokemon character in this thread doesn't always receive the warmest welcome.

Actually, I can't even remember the last time this thread had a serious conversation on whether or not they'd like to see any of the currently revealed Pokemon in Smash.

That’s mainly because very little new Pokémon have been revealed, and the ones where you can really discuss when it comes to fighter potential are the legendaries... and maybe Obstagoon. A lot of the Pokémon aren’t in their final evolutions yet, so those wouldn’t get discussed a lot, and there really isn’t a lot we know about them either (the legendary typings aren’t even revealed). Chalk it up to TPC deciding to listen to fan feedback of not revealing too much information too closely and only revealing less than 20 new Galar Pokémon.

Wait until near Sword and Shield’s release where more Pokémon, final evolutions, and information about them are shown and by then some discussions should start.

Seriously though, where’s my SwSh info, we barely got any.

I once had an idea for Eevee where she would evolve into a different form depending on the type of opponent they KO first.

I'll always be open to Scizor, Zoroark, and Sceptile joining the roster as well.

Speaking of Undertale, I remember when I tried Genocide... I quit. Couldn't do it. The UT cast ended up being my favorite video game cast of all time by far.

I quit at the Undyne fight specifically. Then repeated Pacifist 1-2 times over. And after my most recent playthrough, I'm sticking with the true Pacifist ending and never changing it. Unity between humans and monsters, Asriel's redemption, and Sans never having to deal with resets ever again... it's such a sweet ending.

And I like the game and cast so much to the point where I'm writing a fanfic that takes place after the Pacifist ending with a friend. And mark my words; the project will get done.
