Just saying though there are movies where you can tell its bad without seeing it. Twilight? Bayformers? Fifty Shades of Grey? Ring any bells?

Shows there's movies you can judge without seeing them.
Why are you making excuses just so you can beat up Disney for wanting to remake something? Like yeah, the remake train instead of making original things is pretty stupid, but that doesn't equate to the remakes themselves being inherently terrible.

If you're one of the people who is actually upset that they made Ariel black then I think we're done here.
ok look.
the fact that she's black doesn't upset me.
it's the fact that they did it just to spark some kind of response that makes me a bit mad.

They did it because they wanted to make the remake stand out and reach new audiences.

That's it.

It's not that deep.

It wouldn't be a problem if Disney weren't doing it politically.

They're making her into a black girl for no reason for other than "representation". They're probably also gonna make her bi or lesbian to spread LGBT.

The reason Disney keeps making live-action remakes is because the old animated characters all died. They're just all dead of old age now.

I admire the remakes for what they are and I enjoyed all of them

I definitely can't wait to see them make Frollo younger.

First Timothy Q. Mouse gets removed from Dumbo, Mushu and Shang gets removed from Mulan and now Ariel is made black. Can't wait for Jiminey Cricket getting removed as well!
I don't mind Mushu being removed and there not being any songs in the Mulan remake. The legendary story of Hua Mulan is good without music and a comic relief sidekick especially if it means it'll be a war epic like Braveheart (which I'm all for).

That's a horrible statement... An awful statement even

Ariel being black is confusing, imo, but it’s nothing huge. No need to freak out.

I can understand why people would be a little upset by that. The issue has more to do with the change itself than it does having a problem with a particular race.

It's just that it's not really the Ariel we've come to know. It's no different than changing the gender or species of a character IMO.

Moral of the story: if those Glenn Close live action 101 Dalmatians movies weren't so popular back in the day this discussion probably would not exist now.

Making a character black isn't meant to spark controversy. If I made a black character, no one would complain, since it's new. These people are viewing the remakes as a new thing, that's why they can make changes like that.

I'll come back when the thread isn't having what PewDiePie apologists would call a "heated gamer moment."

Back to Three Houses.

I have nothing against feminism or LGBT btw. The problem is I hate how its being shoved into people's faces nowadays in media when already doing it in real life is good enough. If want to do the former notably right take a page from Ellen Ripley from Aliens (1986).

Just wanted to make that clear so you guys wouldn't get the wrong idea I was a homophobe because I'm not. I think being gay or lesbian is perfectly natural and a choice one can make.

It's not the fact that they're making a black character, it's the fact that they're changing a character people know and recognize from white to black
I really don't see why this is so hard for some people to process

There’s a difference to doing that by changing an established character than creating your own and the former often comes at a bigger risk in terms of audience reaction

There's nothing wrong with black characters, I think it's just changing already existing characters that bothers people when they could just as easily remake a movie like princess and the frog which already has black characters, or better yet, make something original.

I hate myself and my damn habit of letting myself go again...If some of you still hate me for this I understand. Guess I haven't improved as much as I had hoped...-_- Seriously I'm 27 and I'm still doing this especially after 10 years when long ago I should had stopped? I worry I may never stop this and lose all your respect...That's what I fear...:(

I'll take whatever comes to me whatever the warnings maybe.

Anyways I got a long night and tomorrow night as well. I'll talk more later late tonight or tomorrow.

It's being "shoved in people's faces" because women, minorities and LGBT people are tired of being marginalized, ignored, stereotyped, oppressed, and killed. Unless you think the straight white male default that's been propagated for centuries through imperialism and propaganda was "forced" as well.

People always come back to characters like Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley as "good" examples of feminist characters. If the internet existed when those movies came out, let's not kid ourselves, swarms of people would post about how they're stupid feminist propaganda.

You'd actually be surprised how long diversity integration has been around in media. Excluding the no brainers like Star Trek, you have things like the Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon, which had a team costing of an African-American man, Hispanic man, a woman and a dude in a wheelchair. Despite that it had nowhere near the flak that the Answer the Call film got, if any at all.
Only difference between then and now is the existence of the internet becoming a huge social hub.
